Your paranoia is getting the better of you. Different drugs work differently even if they're in the same drug class. A dose of caffeine and a dose of meth (both being stimulants, mind you) will feel very different even though they do the same basic thing. The fact that everyone's physiology is different and the fact that we don't really have a "one pill fits all" solution is the reason people have to "prime" for the "right" drug. Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone at around 1.6x by weight, yet I vastly prefer hydrocodone to oxycodone for my physical pain because the opi-rage (opiate-triggered annoyances) and constipation are more obvious with oxy compared to hydro. That's not priming, that's my body not liking one specific chemical structure more than another.

And yes, I've had ego loss before from high psychedelic doses. I've also triggered it from getting way, way, way too stoned.
were/are you on anti-psychotics?

I'm prescribed a neuroleptic, promethazine, for nausea. About 1/10 the strength of Thorazine in terms of being a neuroleptic drug, but pretty decent at helping with nausea. I'm also taking an antidep for chronic pain (duloxetine), the first one I've ever taken and I feel like it's working well enough to keep taking it and not have to switch.
