last Friday was payday.
this weekend I did it again. the Summer spending spree continues and the collection grows. it's from the same shop with all the nice deals on these generic scientific designs. once more I didn't even have to break a $100, and I've snagged this foot-tall, dual chamber rig with the lower 8-arm tree and upper showerhead.

huge dabs are extremely smooth, just like on my inline to 12-arm tree from the same guy, which is also about a foot tall. these rigs are great for parties at home.

Thanks for the advice @syrupy but I am getting nowhere with HPG...
I might have to chalk this up as a loss and just never order from them again:(

Sorry to hear that. They're on my S**t list now... no syrupy money for them. We got to stick together so they realize we're not just one customer but a group of interested collectors.

Boycotted.

Well, perhaps we might be quick to judge this case as it has only been 24 hours... not that I think they will come right, but I will give them a chance and will keep the FC family updated.

Just another reason to direct my $$ to FC Friends and sponsors.

24 hours? Geez I better call back the hounds! Let's give 'em 5 or 7 days, then I'll write a cool declaration of glass independence manifesto demanding boro justice for our member, or the boycott (which could reach international customers also) is on.

LOL I thought that might put it in perspective, I just don't have much expectation.

With that avatar, I kind of expected you to be a little more fired up. Where's your inner Steve Ballmer?

Ah well, wherever there's an FCer who didn't get his order, or the glass was defective, or not as advertised.... I'll be there.

Everything by Bird, drop in the middle is new.

Not mine... i so wish. But it is a new addition to a buddy's family so I guess it still counts for this thread? Anyway at least i got to dab all sorts out of it today.

BTW, the other piece on the table (did you even see it? Lol) is another big buck rig. Wish I got a better pic of it. The chipwork is insane.

Does it feel like it's worth $2k when you're hitting it?

$2400... :o

More power to those that own them, but I just do not understand the MS Pricetags, especially for clear glass.

I'm into other high end items that also require a great amount of skill and precision to create and I just don't see where the money is going when it comes to Mothership. Granted, I have never used or even held a Morhership piece, but I can't imagine that I would instantly understand the high price if I did. In my experience, precision fit and finish can only fetch so much before you start paying for a name. :2c:

I obviously love glass, but for $2400 I would rather put the money into a custom 1911 .45.

I have ranted about this same subject @Deadshort480...I'm with you on that one brother...especially the clear glass.
What confuses me even more is that they are available. It's not like you can not find these pieces. Whether new or used, they can be found and they are all the same. I mean, it's fuckin Prodo glass! Yes, it's well made Prodo glass, but it is still production! I do see these other ones that use colored glass with a bunch of opals or worked areas and understand that some of these are one off customs, but they also go for upwards to $10k and then some! I need someone to explain it to me.

You think that's crazy? Someone offered him $3200 for it. I believe he shipped it later that day!

TBH, you cant see the sweet etching on the egg tho. It has a flower of life on the neck among a few other things. Never seen an MS Egg with that before.

Also everything about this piece is flawless. I'm assuming MS scraps a ton of these before QC let's them out.

Not defending the price tag, just saying.

They say that it is art for the justification of the prices for worked pieces...that I can somewhat understand since a LOT of time and effort goes into making those marbles, swirls, etchings, drips, etc. Now how someone would pay 35K for a functional piece is beyond me...unless they/I were mega rich. But for the scientific glass, like a mothership brand as @Deadshort480 mentioned, I don't see the justification for that...2K for a little bubbler type piece...heck no!

I see $2k in the worked one maybe? Sandblasting doesn't impress me in the slightest. It's all about a good stencil. It hasn't been stated, but I can not believe that the cuts in those percs are made by hand. No way. I need visual proof to believe that, even a little bit. Besides the worked version (and it is beautifully worked), where is the artist's hand involved? If nearly everything is produced by machinery, is it art? I'm not saying these are pumped out by robotics, but a hand made perc over some type of perc that is made by programming a machine to do the work is where art ends and production begins.

Edit: I may have to eat some crow because I believe that the holes in the Fab Eggs need a heavy human handed touch.

From what I've been told (and I have no 1st hand experience here, just second hand "knowledge") everything MS makes is by hand, and they kill quite a few pieces in their QC dpt. I think maybe @PhotoRider can answer this, I know he has some of these in his personal collection and IIRC he knows the owner of MS or a friend of a friend does or something?

Anyway, want to talk about ridiculous markup for zero work?

Mike Shelbo. He got famous for his (admittedly awesome) goblin rigs.

$1400 sticker on that one BTW... But thats not what Im talking about here.

He makes these fucking pendants (necklace) that he calls "Teleporter Keys":

Yeah, its ~$3.50 worth of STAMPED GLASS. The only "hand formed" part is the loop for the chain at the top.

What do these retail for you ask?

$300.00

And people line up to buy these things at midnight believe it or not. All because of his name, hype, and artificially inflated demand.
