RBT Sprout

Sorry to be pedantic but vibration motors vary from phone manufacturer to manufacturer. There are some Android devices that allow you to tweak the strength of the motor, even!
No need for apologies. The attention to detail that members of FC have is one of the many reasons I have gravitated to this forum. Stay punctilious!

Edit: I'll add that i am an android user and had no idea i can modify its strength LOL! TY!

Thanks for the feedback folks... Yeh, RBT gear is always dead simple and the haptic thing seems more trouble than it is worth. I would rather spend the money on a more reliable DC/DC converter or else rather i think. So a really smooth button with built in LED? or smaller button with separate multi-colored LED? There could be a stealth mode that turns off the LED? Looking for simple, elegant, intuitive, easy to use and remember... cuz we stoners :)

I like these led ringed push buttons which is all in one. I feel it goes more in line with your style versus seperate lights:

Many years ago I came across a button on a piece of lab equipment that was at quick glance solid steel or whatever metal alloy. When depressed, the glow of a blue led would emerge from the center. Turned off, no more light and back to steel. It was really slick! I did a 3 minute google search and came up empty. But i know they exist out in the wild.

Had a long (never long enough) convo with RBT, super excited to see this project grow. I’m always on board with anything RBT makes, Ive had nearly every iteration of most of the vapes he’s made...3-4 splinters, Splinter Z, Zion, 3 Milaanas, Milaana 2, Sliver...idk how he keeps putting these out but goddam do I like them.

Splinter Z has been my top pick since I received it. I’ve tried a lot of great vapes since then...most are being sold now. Nothing really competes that I’ve tried, just for my own personal wants and needs.

The thing that keeps me looking for new vapes, is I just want a normal damn vape, yaknow. No complex stem system, no weird piece of wood screwed onto another mod made from a different company, no using fingers to throttle airflow as I spin in circles and say 3 Hail Marys ... I just want a normal vape. I want to take it to my friends place and be like, hey look it’s a vape (my friends think I smoke weed from a pepper shaker). I want it easy to use, it even has a button to turn it on and off (shoutout to guitar pick mod).

Point is, RBT doesn’t make normal vapes. If the performance wasn’t great, it wouldn’t be worth it. He knows how to get superb, full bodied thick hits to the lungs...and that’s what he sticks with. RBT doesn’t create vapes that find the consumer, but a vape the consumer searches for. If you’re here, chances are you were looking for an experience you weren’t quite able to find elsewhere.

But that brings me to another point everyone here at FC understands. If you want amazing vape performance, things have to get weird. You get weird ass fuckin designs, torching rituals (what even are you Vapman...) or absurd vapes to get that absolute perfect hit of vapor that proves to us it is the dominant form of consuming cannabis (looking at you lsv, flowerpot...).

Where am I going with this? Short and simple, we need RBT to be our savior and create a normal vape with his signature quality of vapor. Just something to load and rip without massive trade offs. Problem is, is the technology there to pull it off without absurd costs for R&D.

Either way, I’m sure I’ll love whatever is brewing and it’s always a joy watching ideas progress.

P.S. I logged on simply to make a post saying I was following the thread. Oops

I dunno. Milaana 2 is as simple a vape as can be. Low tech, single-handed, discrete, reliable. Delivers great hits every time. A great price point. I play around with other vapes from time to time, but simplicity and effectiveness always keep my Mi within reach if not in my pocket. RBT keep creating! I hope your ship comes in real soon! Then you can kick back, grab your best work to date (your preferred Mi), and, well, that's it. Job over.

^ @RastaBuddhaTao, you owe this boy above a like. Wonderfully expressed AJ. You nailed it with 3 words: "If you're here." We are here because we, here, know in our guts what attributes a perfect vape would possess, & wholeheartedly believe that Ryan is the wizard who can deliver yet again. (We've all seen his Champs Tree log.) We are both a community & niche of RBT admirers.

He knows how to get superb, full bodied thick hits to the lungs.

:bowdown:Ryan had me once I put the Z to my lips & took my 1st toke.

@AJS thanks for the chat the other day as it was a big help in steering the RBT tech!

The RBT tech actually can be optimized in the Sprout. In current designs RBT tech wants to be square but was forced into a round hole. Going custom the heater compartment can be molded in ceramic in a square format that will allow for better heating (no more rotating the MP lol). I spent 20 years of my life designing things... but I have never designed a vaporizer. Current products have to work around the 19 mm glass and all of its size, performance and packaging difficulties. Being able to design each and every part (finally) things can be optimized and that will greatly reduce the size.

The spout will be about the size of Mi2... without the lip stick glass mouthpiece. The unit will be regulated and will have the ability to select temperatures. It will have an integrated 18650 and a simple control system like a button with LED feedback for temp setting, on/off, and low battery indicator. There is a possibility to have the unit run in On-demand (temp control for poor mans breathe sense?) and session mode (constant on power like a log / desktop). Charging will be USB C and the unit will be constructed in a cast aluminum frame with wood panels. Mouthpiece will be a 3/8" glass tip that can be charged out for a 14/mm.

This is what is currently floating around in my head. It will be a month or so before this design starts to evolve in 3D CAD. The first thing will be Alpha prototypes of the new heater design for bench testing and R&D refinement... cant wait to finally design a vape :)

Hard no on this bit mate. You know it too.

Thanks for the strong vote for removable battery. Is your motivation the need to hot swap fresh cells rather than have to wait for the vape to charge? ...or is it the possibility of replacing the battery if it died? If it changed in an hour and lasted 5 loads and the battery was replaceable... would that work?

Both but more so the second. Hot swap is always nice but like you say if it charge quick and lasts a while its not necessarily needed. Though still better. But in today's age its nice to buy things and know they don't have something locked inside that will die eventually.

More than any of that its just the type of vape maker you are and your core philosophy. I've been watching you since the beta Zion days and power to the user has always been part of your design ethos, as well as simplicity. So really its just a dishonest departure for you to go internal battery and all us user would enjoy easy replaceable 18650's battery's. Especially since most of us have a fleet already.

Idk don't overthink it, just when you consider who you are and who your making vapes for I think the battery route to take is clear.

Unless you create something truly magical I won't be buying it without a removable battery. Both for hot swappability as well as long term replacement. Once you've had swappable batteries on a portable it's impossible to go back IMO. Got too baked and forgot to plug in the charger? No problem just grab one of your million already charged 18650s and you're good to go.

The idea of the Sprout is what @AJS described earlier... a vape that just works out of the box. Many here will not appreciate it as is will be dumb simple if form, fit and function. It is meant to contend with the PAX, FireFly, Arisers and IQs of the world. It is a calculated step towards a commercial product with continued adherence to the RBT brand. Given the mix, the best overall solution is an integrated battery as it gives way to a smaller package, less cost as well as less complexity and better external styling... out of box, plug in USB C, charge, fill pod, insert click 5 times, select temp, perfect vapor... done. I believe that a 5-8 load battery capacity and 1.5 hour charge time fits the majority of the commercial users medicinal needs If an integrated battery was used, it would be field replaceable and this would be rare given that most will get 3-5 years out of the battery and most upgrade tech in that time span. With that said I will look to see if the Sprout architecture is conducive to a swappable battery with limited cost, reliability risk, cost add and ...plastic ;)

Keep in mind that the Milaana and Splinters live on and are more of a fit for the FC crowd who unlike AJS are happy to tinker and Frankenvape shit together lol. The mod boxes offer a myriad of ways to run the splinters and swappable batteries n as @AJS suggest... the vapor quality isn't half bad.

The Firefly, Arizer Air, and the IQ (and even the IQ's TINY little bro) have easily removable and swappable batteries. The Arizer Solo/Solo 2 have fairly easy to replace batteries. Literally the only one in your list without some form of easy user replaceable battery is the PAX which also happens to be the least liked out of the bunch from what I've seen. Not sure why you couldn't accomplish your goals with a swappable battery. I can't imagine that even newbie vaporists who "just want it to work" wouldn't like having a swappable battery.

There's one main vape I don't care about swappable batteries with, and that is the Solo 2. Solo 2 lasts for about 20 seshes, which is just such an incredibly large amount...to where I much prefer that it is an integrated battery. It just makes it simpler for me and one less thing to worry about, as the Solo 2 is the most worry free vape I've ever owned.

Non-swappable isn't a deal breaker for me. I had one battery on my Arizer Air, one battery on my MV1. And when we recall back to MFLB...I had 8 batteries just to get through one session. Literally. The batteries were so bad. After only being able to sesh once every 2 hours with 8 batteries on 1 sesh, nothing else really mattered to me as long as it's not that.

All depends on the setup.

Fuck it, just go solar power.

they say im crazy but i have a good time
...i always hated battery management, esp with 18650's... i prefer not to deal with them if i had too... that being said, i rarely use portable vapes, and i have more than one vape so if one's dead, that's not an issue...

...however saying that, i will admit, milanna was the first vape (and only so far) that made me accept battery management... meaning, what the milanna produced made me care less about having to manage multiple battery's... but i won't go anywhere if i need to bring more than two... imo there are better options than having to bring a duffel bag just for a vape, batteries, stems and weed just to keep it going... im minimalist...

...even then, if i had the choice not to deal with multiple spare batteries to keep running i opt for that option every time... imo i have enough shit i have to deal with on a daily basis, extra batteries is one i prefer not to deal with if avoidable... :2c:

Monk Debate

The monks do be debatin’
Let’s compromise, have an integrated battery but add a hand crank so we can charge it by hand anywhere and at any time. People can use it like a fidget spinner, absentmindedly turning the crank, then they’ll always have a charge for their device.

I’m only half kidding...

That's the great thing about swappable batteries and the ability to charge them in the vape. You don't have to "manage" anything if you don't want to, and the people who do love the convenience of a fresh set of batteries for an instant full charge are satisfied too. Just look at the Boundless Tera as an example.
