PUFFiT portable

Cheap plastics off-gas, that could be what you are smelling... it will go away with prolonged exposure to heat (think bho purging) but you don't really want to inhale it... I would try to mod up a fishtank airpump or something rather than using your lungs...

Did the manufacturer ever say what type of plastic they use?

Just finished a live chat with GV, asking when I can expect my puffit (ordered 7/2). Apparently orders from July will begin to ship from the beginning of next week.

I'm calling, complaining, and possibly cancelling. This irritates me as I was deliberately lied to by the associate.

"if you order by tomorrow morning, you should definitely have it by the weekend"
How'd it go? Did you end up canceling?

Ordered mine last night. I called about the BO situation. They said orders placed up to the first of the month will get shipped next week and was told mine will probably be shipped the following week. Thread indicates all orders placed this month will be shipped this month. If so all backorders will be filled.

We'll see how it goes.

The Puffit is perfect as far as appearance since I have used inhalers just like this for years for asthma. My symptoms were aggravated by smoke but helped by vapor. I've had a MFLB for a year or more now and love it, but hate fooling with the batteries. Like the Pax but need the stealth more than style.

What is the latest anyone ordered here that received a ship notice?

Coastal,
Hey Everyone. I have been watching this post for a while but finally felt a need to respond because I saw that BoxofRock ordered before me, but hasn't received a shipping notice yet. I ordered June 17th, and while I haven't received an actual tracking number, I did getting something that said my order was "fulfilled". I just wanted to pass that on in case that means that there is something wrong with your order.

Also, I am bummed about this plastic taste people have mentioned. I sent a message to the DiscreetVape asking what kind of plastic they use, how long the taste might take to go away, and if they are sure the materials they use are safe. I will post a response, assuming I get one.

Pretty stoked to have it, but hope this plasticky taste goes away at some point. I thought about just burning it through a few times without herb in the heating chamber to burn out the taste, but the instructions explicitly say not to use it with an empty heating chamber. I don't want to waste the medicine to run it through so I guess I'll just deal with it for now. As I type this I am getting a mild headache. I hope that isn't from the "plasticyness"
Couldn't you just leave the 1st spent bowl of herbs in the chamber and just keep heating it up over and over again?

My tracking number finally has info now but it wasn't what I was hoping to see, it just says order processed and ready for UPS. I was really hoping to get this tomorrow but now I have doubts. I will let evryone know when I get it and give a short initial review after.

For whom it may concern...

On page 15 post #368, Discreet Vape and Dogman talked about the plastic taste.

"Re: Plastic Taste Take 2
Dogman: I did a little digging for you. Turns out it's the silicone tubing used in the Vapor Path. I spoke to the tubing manufacturer at length. Seems they use a a vegetable based mold lubricant added to ensure smooth flow thru the extrusion equipment that makes the tubing. I'm assured it's non toxic (has to be to meet FDA requirement for "food Grade") but it does smell/taste a bit funny.
Its seems that it is particularity prevalent in Fresh material "hot of the presses so to speak". Typically it is removed by "post curing" the material in an oven for about an hour after initial manufacturing however This will cause the tubing to loose some of it's clarity and go a bit hazy. Now since I didn't know to spec otherwise when ordering they just assumed I wanted clarity. Not really.
So all future units will include post cured silicone tube!
The dissipation you are experiencing is likely due to the heat cycling of the tube as you use it, and I'm sure it will disappear in time."

Not exactly 100% reassuring, but i'm interested to see if future puffit's don't have this offgass/smell.

Thanks I'dHitThat, I am about to cancel its still Partially Shipped . I really liked the portable idea and the price of the puffit drew me in. When Dogman got his (excelent review btw) it gave me hope. I am just to sick to wait much longer. I need a portable.
Medulary thyroid cancer "surviver" and thats in quotes as life is not a great deal of fun. But I have to say that here at FC I have found others so I feel less alone.
All you ppl are great and hope the best for everyone

Sorry to hear that boxy. I will tell you that if you are specifically looking for a portable that you won't be dissappointed if you can wait on the puffit. If you need something now maybe order a home device now and wait go the puffit for your portable needs. DBV + puffitt is working pretty well for me.

I took about 5 draws off the puffit in a crowded theater last night and none seemed the wiser. Testing it at Seaworld today. After 3 bowls, the plastic taste seems to be going away. Either that or I'm getting used to it lol.

No worries everyone, I have been using mine quite frequently and the plastic taste has completely disappeared. To me it is the same plastic taste my Solo had for the first couple of cycles, but it dissipated quickly and is completely gone now.

I have been using with some friends that I used the Iolite with, and they really prefer the Puffit to the Iolite, as I do.

I want to share some thoughts about the color and size of this unit. One thing I think we all need to realize is that this is a very informed forum. We all know about and see the new models and 99% of us are very familiar with vaporization.

It amazes me how many of my smoker friends have never even heard of vaporizing, so most of the time even my marijuana using friends don't have a clue as to what I am doing when I am vaporizing. I use a Lava Tube and a Smok Vmax as a nicotine juice vaporizer, both black, and when I pull out my T1 and use it, even my smoking buds have no clue I am vaporizing a different substance.

My main point is that even my marijuana smoking friends (whom I do my best to convert) have no clue, so in my mind the general public is even more clueless. I recently went to a Roger Waters show, and they made us empty our pockets and did a wand/metal sweep. I pulled my two black mods out with the T1, a couple of tank cartridges and my Evo with the cartridges. The security guy asked me 'what are those'? I calmly explained that they were e-cigs, he looked another second or two and passed me through without another thought about it. Had I had the Puffit at that show, he would not have even bothered to ask me a question, just passed me on through.

Most of us spend hours researching this stuff, so our minds are sharp(?) with what we are learning, and most of the general public is too self absorbed to care or pay attention.

When I smoked, I use cigarette one hitters, and would never care if I drove past a cop with the hitter in my mouth. I would ask my friends 'do you ever check to see if the guy you just passed had a either a cigarette or a one hitter?' Of course the answer was always no.

Maybe a lot of it is attitude, but don't overestimate the observation skills of the general public, most people just don't care anymore.

I do have an AroMed and have had it 18 months now. Six months in we lost power and that was the last time I combusted. So that is more than a year smoke free! We lost power a week ago and I just went back to bed and waited for the ability to "light" up my aromed.
I guess I will wait untill next week and see if they are just swamped with orders to fill.

I'll be vaporizing mint leaves, puffing and blowing out without inhaling until the plastic vapors are gone since it may aggravate my asthma.

Was glad to hear that the battery charge indicator function will be in all shipped units. Press top 3 times to get green, orange, or red led indication of 80%, 60%, or 40% charge remaining.

Not sure how the Pax folks will be able to offer a 10 year warranty since no rechargable battery lasts that long. Probably going to exclude the battery somehow from the warranty. The Puffit folks are going to offer another unit for a bit above their cost looks like when the battery dies. Maybe there will be a way to user replace these but someone will have to take one apart to figure that out.

Interested to hear from anyone who ordered in July when they get a ship confirmation notice.

Waiting not so patiently...

The Pax battery is specifically excluded from the 10 year warranty.

Well I got the preorder email when the device was only $110, but at that time I was broke. I didn't order it until July 8th, I then discovered this forum and reading the problems and reviews I wish I would had made another selection, but the order has been made and I was really looking forward to it so I think I'll stick with it. They first said it would ship by Friday (and now realize that was a lie) then today called and now they said next week (not even a day, just sometime next week) EAGERLY waiting!!

No surprise there. Any company with a product that uses a long life bat like the lithium ion, and is warrantied for years, is going to guarantee the bat for a much shorter time period. The DaVinci, for example, has a two yr. warranty but only 90 days on the bat.

Puffit orders placed as late as 6/14 have been shipped. No info on any later dates. The black color is out of stock and all units shipped this week are pink. ;)
