Lol yeah I thought about but there are no home brew stores in my town so I thought maybe someone would have some advice for me specific to hard water stains. There has to be something out there. I am sure pbw is great and all but I'm also sure it is not the be all and end all.
I think I read some people suggest vinegar a while back. I might try that next. Please limit suggestions to products that can be found at Walmart, target, Lowes, Menards, farm and fleet, or supermarkets
Thanks
I get PBW on my doorstep via amazon, but if it's not to your liking, have you tried products specifically designed for hard water stains? CLR is one brand I see at many places. Another thing that has worked in the past is Oxi-Clean, I'm sure there are other brands. Very fine steel wool soaked in iso should buff out the spots on the outside.
Don't know if it's news, it was to me (mostly because I am totaly clueless about those things) but "gritty" cleaners can strip the fuming off glass according to the guy who made my fumed recyclers. It seems PBW is what he would call "gritty" because it stripped most of the fuming off one of my pieces (10 minute soak, hot tapwater). Just a heads up
@Herr_Dampf , I appreciate the response and to learn from your experience. The question was asked by me a few posts back. Now regretting the single time my fumed piece got the same PBW treatment yours did (well a cold water soak).
If I may ask, how does your recycler look now? Did it just lighten the fume, or strip it away completely? Is the de-fuming even across the surface or in blotches?
After seeing your post, I look at my little fumed recycler, and think, "It does look a bit lighter in tone...." but when I take it outside in good light it appears fine.
Thanks again for this post. I hope it helps others how it helped me.
