I feel like this post NEEDS to be shared every hundred pages or so as it's really become integral to my using the PAX. I couldn't picture a practical way to use my PAX otherwise. And let's be honest, most of us aren't going to remember to carry around a separate tool for packing, what with our somewhat diminished short-term memory faculties...
If you haven't made one, I'd highly recommend it

Also, you can tighten the fit of your charger by applying tape to it where it makes contact with the PAX. When I would try to charge my PAX from within my backpack for stealth chargin g, the connection would always come undone because the wires would get moved around. Picture:

I might try the tape trick on my car charger. It's a pain in the ass having to hold the unit to the charger while driving.

Also. No need for that tool. A wine key in the car (using the cover-opener tool) and a nail clipper in the house (using the dirt scraper) works wonders for turning.

A thick rubber band around the top of the Pax stretched over the bottom of the stand. Works great IMO.

Hey vapoingisbest, I think I know what the problem is.

Try warm the pax up in your hands or in a radiator for a few mins before you use it, and try again. My pax did this too sometimes because it got too cold, but warming it up a little bit fixed it (my pax is fake though). I read on the Ploom website that the real one should work in 0C, so if yours is real then maybe get it replaced. Let me know if it works

Thank you for the suggestion, but it didn't help. I warmed up the unit and tried but can't get the unit to start and the oven to heat up.

I was one of the people who bought from yellow dog company off eBay. By all accounts it's real but ploom won't service it even if I pay them....
So I took it apart and just doing so it works now.. I wasn't getting any light on at all.. I think some fine dust had made its way in there. So I'm happy now....
I also found a stink free case. A company called true utility has a hard case. If you buy something from them it comes in the case.

I use the allen key to tightly pack the chamber. Is there any health hazards with using steel?

Also, do you think these gemstones could be used to occupy some of the chamber space? I like to experiment with my Pax. Already use the screen trick

It definitely does take a while to "dial in" a new vape.

I learned that with e-cigs and my experience with plant matter vaping so far has only reinforced that view.

I got my Pax today and I started out with a mini-load using a spare Pax screen as a pressure plate and then a rolled up pipe screen for a spring. I had barely covered the bottom screen with material.

I didn't try to tamp it before putting the pressure screen on top of it because it was such a thin layer that trying to tamp it down only resulted in pushing it around.

I just leveled it out, put the pressure screen on and tamped that a bit and then inserted the rolled spring and the cover and it seemed pretty stable. I took the cover back off, took out the spring and tweazed up the pressure screen and the material was still flat and hadn't clumped or shifted.

I then turned it on, set to medium and took some light puffs after I could feel it heating up and was rewarded with a taste that was so close to the smell of the fill before it went in that I had to consciously remind myself that it was my tongue tasting and not my nose smelling.

There wasn't much vapor at first but by the time it reached temperature, I was getting very visible vapor on exhale and able to feel the inhale to gauge about how much I've inhaled. It wasn't an irritating feeling at all. In many ways it felt like it does when I hit my e-cig although less strong due to there being less vapor.

In addition to using a rolled up pipe screen for a spring instead of using a third Pax screen, I took a file to the edges of the pressure "screen" so that it more easily fit the oven chamber and also used a needle-nose pliers to turn up each of the shorter sides just a bit to make getting the pressure screen out easier without spilling the ABV all over the place.

I should mention that I set it to charge before doing anything but after only about 20 minutes, it was fully charged. After that, I took the oven cover off, set it to its maximum temperature and then let it burn-in for a while.

After burning in for about a half hour the new electronic/mechanical smell went away and it pretty much just smelled warm.

I'm definitely liking my Pax so far!

How high should the liquid level be ? And what should I do with those black plastic plugs on either end ?

So has anyone found a good smell proof Pax case? I'm carrying around an smell proof Opsack - gets the job done, but kinda unwieldy.

I am looking for a smell proof container just for the Pax, but I thought you might like to see my on the go set up...

It carries a Pax, MFLB, microG, O.pen, 2 Herb Preserve jars filled grinded herb, 2 charged batteries, a stem, a mini brush, a card grinder and my rec card. I would not call this smell proof but it's one sweet carrying case/ set-up. I typed in "pipe pouch/case" on eBay and found this several months back. You'll notice I have a little satellite pouch where the Pax and MFLB live that I can take out separately to carry on the go as well.

Has anyone ever tried smearing bho/concentrates on their screen mod and dropping it in the oven by itself? I randomly thought of this and I can't see why it wouldn't work. Maybe you could even sandwich it between two pipe screens to work even better! And preheat the oven before dropping the screen in to preserve all that sweet vapor. Hmmm I'm gonna have to try this next time I get my hands on some BHO. '

I haven't tried that, but what has worked phenomenally for me is to make little herb sandwiches. First, pack a small layer of herb, drizzle concentrate over bed of flower, add final layer of herb, pack it. Heat on high just a tad bit longer than normal so the concentrate melts and vapes as well. I have yet to find anything more flavorful than this! I prefer this to hitting wax alone out of a microG, etc.

This looks very ideal as a smell proof carrying case for the Pax. It's 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. I ordered and will let you know how well it masked any odor.

i got some of that from green cross. So inexpensive and the taste is amazing for the first few hits with the pax. Sativas are nice

IMO, the finer the grind the tighter the pack, the better the taste. I use a coffee grinder to get the finest grind possible. I usually notice the first 1-3 tokes to taste superb!

Has anyone successfully modded the mouthpiece of their pax for more vapor intake? I love my pax and have grown accustomed to my slow draw/cigar puff technique but just curious if any have attempted this because the design is so simple that a few mods seem like they would work but not worth risking damage or voided warranty.

Does anyone know if ploom makes an oven lid that extends deeper into the bowl for smaller oven loads? If not how sick would that be instead of having to use extra screens or other material like in the posts above.

Just chiming in.

I sent my unit back as it had been giving me troubles and one of the people from Pax sent me a call wondering what was wrong with my unit as they did not have any issues with it.

This was my biggest fear but I knew something was wrong so I calmly explained everything I'd noticed that had been a "problem" with the unit.

10 minutes later he explained that he ran an internal test and that I will be getting a new Pax!

It has arrived at my friends place now but I won't have it til right after christmas.

Hopefully this one works perfectly!

I did recently venture into the replacment myself and am currently charging the Pax with the new battery installed. I used a Panasonic NCR18650B, 3.7v 3400mAh to replace what seems like a crappy chinese made 2600mAh battery. I use my PAX a couple of times a day and the battery life seemed to be way short of the two hours PAX claims. I use it on medium setting. I know I voided the warranty but they would have denied my warranty anyway due to what its being used for

So far so good with my pax! I have been cleaning it every 2 days or so. I use roughly 4 ovens a day for 2 weeks and have completely eliminated combustion. I am a little worried that I am gonna kill the battery with this heavy use

Well I really dont need to be able to send it back to PAX since I can do most repairs myself anyway. The advantages of a strong electronics background and desire to tinker around. Would still like to hear from anyone who has done battery modifications and the results they got with it. I just finished charging my PAX and for the first time in weeks, it was solid green when done charging. Normally the green light would flash constantly when it was "done". I will update more later once I know how it holds up.

Not sure what kind of software issues you are talking about, but for now my PAX is working with the new battery. The battery it came with I dont believe had any protection circuits built in so the battery I installed didnt have it either. The cells are made in Japan and are high quality. I tried to search JoeKickass' posts but he has a lot to sift through. Would be nice if this thread could have some organization via links in the beginning post to send you where you want. Mini topics within this huge thread would be nice for those of us who are new and trying to read up without reading all 422 pages.
