So I've been vaping now for a few years, I have a viVape 2 and I love it, but I am looking for something portable now. I am interested in the Pax, but also am thinking about being put on the waiting list for the miVape, because I really enjoy Vaporfection's products. I am nervous though because I have heard that people have been burning their lips on the Pax, and that it scorches the weed. I already love the viVape because of its smooth vapors and am anticipating the miVape to be a mini version of it, so I am stuck! Can anyone give advice?!?!

I have only had mine for a couple of days but I love it. The lip burning is a possibility (had it happen to me at first) but once you slow down, and take small puffs, it's not an issue. The unit does darken the bud alot more, since it is conduction, but if you are looking for a portable that gets hot quick and allows you to rip a nice fat cloud (I have managed about 20 or so of these on a load) it's worth a look. It does also requires stirring for even vapage.

I also think it's the stealthiest/sexiest portable at the moment.:D

Edit: For the record I use an SSV and a Volcano at home, and even though the flavour is superior on those units to the Pax, I often find myself using the Pax for it's convenience. It sure packs a punch and does the job!

I am starting to have trouble with my screen remaining in place.
I clean, and place it in as it should be.. and it seems sturdy and steady.
When I open the pax to "tousle" my load the screen always falls out easily.
I can of course go in and stir with the pax bottoms up... but to empty and refill becomes tricky.
It did not used to fall out so readily.

I always get great vapor from my viVape, so thats why I was considering getting the miVape. For a portable Pax vaporizer, that seems like alot of work no? I spoke to customer service at Vaporfection about the miVape, and he said that it heats up in about 1 minute, and no stirring involved. Its also glass on glass inside, so it is convection air, which I'm assuming the herb wont be sitting on a hot plate and won't be consumed quickly. Decisions....decisions!:ko:

I find the Pax to be very simple to use. You don't have to stir if you don't want, but I find it gives a more even toasting. The big difference here is that one is conduction while the other is convection...obviously there will be a taste difference for sure. I like fat clouds, so conduction is more my style in a portable.

Do you have to clean the vivape 2? I want a home unit like the volcano where i dont have to clean it.

So... yea I took my spring out. I have been using some Vortex in it lately and it gets gunked after one oven. So, I took it out and cleaned it in ISO. I stuck it back in and now the MP takes more effort to close. It's running OK, but now I have to really push down on the MP to get it to lock. I think I may have gotten that "stretched spring" someone talked about a few pages back.

No I guess I'll take it out again, since I must have put it in wrong or some shit. Anyone know if you can buy springs from Ploom?

Allison, I also have a viVape 2 as my main vaporizer, and an Iolite Wispr and PAX as my portable vapes.
Of the 3 I like the PAX the LEAST.
In addition to the myriad of problems outlined in this chain, there are a few things that I really dislike about the PAX.

1. The restricted draw. It feels like trying to drink a very thick milk shake through a narrow straw when hitting the PAX.
I personally prefer the draw on the Wispr, but not necessarily the vapor that is produced.
2. The taste of the flower. This may have something to do with my specific flower, but I do not like the taste at all, especially after the flower has been sitting on the hot oven screen.
3. The smell coming out of the oven, especially on the high setting.

I think that some of the above issues are related to the fact that the PAX is a conduction device versus the viVape 2 being a convection device.
I believe that the Wispr is mainly a conduction vape also, but read somewhere that it uses a combination of the 2 heating methods.
I have emptied the PAX after a session, loaded the ABV into my viVape 2 wand and gotten 3-4 more strong hits, this after seeing no more vapor from the PAX.
When it comes to discreetness and general design though, nothing beats the PAX.

You have to clean (or change parts) on every vaporizer sooner or later.

nobody else have a screen that wont stay put?

I have a sometimes finicky screen. I find that the screens start to form a natural concave from the way they fit into the Pax. If I play with the screen a bit and try to flatten it out completely it has a tendency to stay put upon pressing it back into the oven.

vito, not sure why ur screen is doing that. i usually just push mine back in with a bit of force and it sticks.. push it in from the middle since it curves and see if that helps.

My unit got me through my day nicely. Consistent vapor had me feeling good during my train ride into the city and class. The light acted a bit odd, switchin to purple and even red once, but the unit kept working away. Maybe its time for a cleaning?

Edit: This is why I enjoy conduction for portables...hard hitting clouds. When I'm nipping into an alley for a quick restorative I want to feel it hit hard and fast. I had a convection portable and I always felt short of where I needed to be. could be user error I dunno. Taste is meh with conduction, but I have my flavor needs met at home. Just my two cents

Oh and as to the draw on this thing...it's like smoking a firm packed j to me. As a matter of fact I would say the pax feels like regular smoking to me minus the combustion part.

In the interest of getting you to like the pax more:

1. Probably the first time anybodies ever told you this, but try sucking less hard ;)
If you can hear the air flowing through the pax, I think you're sucking too hard (which actually makes it harder to suck)
2. Stir and use low and medium for taste. particularly low.
3. I don't think this thing needs to be on high, from what I've read the ideal vaping temp is 185. but 180 to 190ish is good.

Per vapeworld's pax page:
  • Low = 370 deg. F (188 C)
  • Med = 390 deg. F (199 C)
  • Hot = 410 deg. F (210 C)
Wikipedia:
The aromatic terpenoids begin to vaporize at 126.0 °C (258.8 °F), but the more bio-activecannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) do not vaporize until near their respectiveflash points: CBD 206.3 °C (403.3 °F),[6] CBN 212.7 °C (414.9 °F),[7] and THC 149.3 °C (300.7 °F)

So the only extra cabanoid you get by running it on high is CBN, but you probably get that on medium too.

from grasscity: CBN (Cannabinol) is produced as THC ages and breaks down, this process is known as oxidization. High levels of CBN tend to make the user feel messed up rather than high.

I usually start on low, and work my way to medium stirring in between temp changes. I only hit high when it's cold out (Pax seems to struggle a bit) or when I don't have time to swap out my load. I get a few good hits on high that knock me right out :D Of course, you get a very dark AVB that tastes bleh, but the effects are what I'm after  That being said, the low setting is very tasty and works effectively. Just be sure to whip up some goodies with the leftovers that's all.

Tweek you have been talking about the cold for a few days. Why do you think the pax doesn't work well in the cold and would it possibly be that batteries in all vapes struggle in the cold or is it that you just don't see the vapor? I hope this run on question made sense.

Hey Dreamerr, makes perfect sense :D Where I live, it is very cold at the moment, and when winter hits it will just get worse. I find that unless I really shelter the Pax, the cold air "wicks" away the heat from the oven taking longer for heat up. Not such a big deal if you have time, but kind of a pain when you are outdoors all day and want a quick hit. May be an issue to those who snowboard, etc as well. So no, it's not a vapor or battery thing...just seems to slow the whole warm up time quite a bit.

Hmm, so I got my pax in the mail today.
I tried heating it up, taking an empty dry draw just to test the resistance and temperature. It tastes STRONGLY like bitter plastic. How do I remedy this?

I bet that would happen with most portables then, it does make sense. I would assume some would be more susceptible then others but the oven will cool just the same.

@finn did you do a burn? I do not remember anyone complaining about that but this is a long thread and I read many.

I just heated it up and took a draw with an empty oven, just to test the draw resistance and the temperature. The air tastes really plastic :S is this normal / will this go away?

True enough, but I figured it was worth mentioning for anyone who may have wondered :D

I thought I read someplace that you should not run the oven empty...maybe something to do with heat and internal components? Not sure...The taste may just be manufacturing oils that will burn off...
