Just learned my Pax is counterfeit. It has the hex bolt and the low temperature setting light is green. The warm up lights are consistent with the real pax, and it works intermittently. It's a black one with a BA serial. The box and pax look authentic and the charger is a 5V. Heads up everyone they said they were able to identify it was fake because the serial didn't match the color, I guess they're copying authentic serials now and this is one of the better fakes.

Hi meek, i have found a definate way to check fake pax. The fake ones do not have the simon game but may jave party mode. As you have stated most also run on a 5v circuit instead of the official 9v. Has anyone come across a copy that includes the simon game? As far as i am aware this is the only way to determine a real ploom pax now (although early official models also dont have the game so dont worry if your earlier model doesnt have the game!)

Hi daveyvision, i did some reading up on chromium for you and basicially it only becomes hexavalent at temperatures of 400c and above. This is a risk associated with welders and also grinders of stainless steel. Hope this helps

Hi, can anyone with an authentic ploom pax please help me out with a query? I have a real ploom model but one thing on the youtube vid of how to spot a fake doesnt add up. Its very minor but still appeara different. When my pax is
charging and goes from orange to green it just goes from solid orange to
solid green. The video on youtube however shows it on the charger go from
orange and then blink 3 times green before he moved ita away from the camera. Mine has never flashed green when fully charged and as i say just changed from solid orange straight to solid green???

This could also be due to different firmware versions that seem to be around (different Simon games etc)
Edit: contact Ploom to be sure if you have an original :)

I have an old pax that was already exchanged by Ploom and the exchange doesn't have Simon game either and only basic party mode, guess also old firmware verison

I've had my pax for a little under 11 months and now the bowl no longer heats up. Since I got it ship forwarded to australia, I don't know about the hassle of getting it replaced.
Anyway I took it apart and confirmed the heating element around the bowl had a burnt out spot on it so its fucked. What's more concerning is the fibrous stuff they wrapped around the heating element looked like what I'd think is asbestos but I'm guessing they wouldn't be so stupid to use such a hazardous material. When I peeled it off around the heating element, little fibres flaked off and I freaked out about breathing any of it in.
Looks like its back to combustion for me until I figure out what to replace it with.

hey guys! I made a youtube video that says a little more about the light modes and stressing not to buy it second hand lol. Hopefully this helps some people brand new to the issue

Okay guys, I took the plunge and bought a pax! Well I bought it off craiglist (mistake)...Guy got it from a smoke shop and after taking it home, I soon realized that the low temp light is green and not yellow. Very disappointing considering the seller is oblivious to the fact that it is a fake. Yes , I know I should have inspected more carefully when I was buying it... I will make the best of this; who knows , maybe my fake pax is more unique

Hi, the low heat setting can look a bit green but it is yellow on the real ones. Do you mean it is the same green that it shows when ready or a lighter more yellowish green?

Upon further inspection it isnt the same as the ready green... but the phillips, mouthpeice and 5 volt charger are the telltale signs on mine

1). On low setting the light is yellow as in yellow, lol
2). When fully charged it changes to solid green, no flashing.

I have the newest model with simon. About the simon game, meh.
But I love my Pax! Hope this helps

PS> I have issues distinguishing some colors (colorblind), but the colors are pretty easy to recognize on the pax

Curiousone,
Does anyone here have any experience with buying from a non authorized retailer and DID have your receipt and tried to send your unit back?

My friend bought one recently from a head shop that claimed they were an authorized retailer but they're not listed online and I'm trying to figure out if he's screwed or not if he gets a bad unit lol.

Anyone had a problem with your Pax and had success with this? I would THINK that they wouldn't give them trouble but I'm just confused how someone could not be an authorized dealer and get consistent supply of Paxes??

i just bought a used pax. i thought the battery was going bad (didnt seem to hold a charge) but its all worked out now. i called the tech line, and i guess you send in your pax. if its real they will fix the unit. it its the battery they will exchange the unit for 125.00.

as for the pax, it is amazing. i have a volcano, and a older original vapor brothers. i also own a mflb. this is now the go to as it works so well.

the good,
it works great. i have found that i pack the heck out of the bowl and run it at the lowest setting. small puffs works best. i get about 10 good hits on a bowl.

the bad,
i use alot of herb. almost as much as the volcano. the thing is efficiant tho, as it will brown the herb all the way down.
battery life is soso. i get about 5 bowls or so, at 10 hits or about 50 rips per charge. i did order another new one to see if the battery life is better.
its purple..... sometimes one cannot be picky about color vs functionality

yes i love this so much im buying another, new.

Did a tech person on the phone/email confirm this with you? Some people have said they've gotten battery's replaced for free... but I assume that they bought it directly from Ploom versus a 3rd party "authorized" headshop.

Shadowdjinni,
Whoaaaa. This thing rules

You're kidding me! How many Easter Eggs does this thing have!?? I didn't even know there were any until right now, Party Mode and now Simon!

Also, I just purchased an onyx black Pax from VapeWorld, I'm going to ditch my SSV for this one after all the things I hear about it, it sounds amazing!! And I was told by a couple people that you can use canola or vegetable or sunflower oil as lubricant for the mouth piece instead of their oil for a good cheaper, organic alternative, does anyone else have experience with this?

So I love my pax. But since my cloud is inop, I've been putting some miles on my pax. Well it's been getting very hard to draw. Even after a thorough alcohol and pipe cleaner session it only fixes the issue slightly. I know it's not the tube, as I clean that constantly and can clearly see daylight through the other side and minimal build up. I've also soaked/cleabed the mouthpiece with soapy water. I even gave it an alcohol rinse after having this problem. The draw on the mouthpiece is a little tight but nothing like when the unit is fully assembled. After some trouble shooting it appears the draw is only tight with the oven lid attached. If I remove the kid the draw is perfect, just like the day I got it. I've cleaned the sides of the kid and the oven and it does make a difference but its nothing like the first couple of uses. Last time I used it (after a cleaning) the draw was do tight I was getting lightheaded. Any suggestions? It does appear the plastic in the oven is slightly separating from the metal outer casing. Is it possible the plastic is tightening around the lid and causing this?
charge your pax upside down

I got bit by the vaping bug in January after purchasing a VaporGenie (thanks to the VG fc thread,) and have now decided to upgrade. After reading all 438 pages of this thread, and finding one at my LHS I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Pax. If it proves authentic I'm snagging it for $229! I'm so excited to ditch combustion.

One question, I didn't see much about anyone using this with tobacco, and I was hoping I can use it to cut out cigs as well. Anyone used ploom's, or any other pipe tobaccos with success?

I would use what Ploom sends out. PG/VG. It is very cheap. I bought this size and I imagine it will last at least two years because it doesn't take much to do the job.

For about $10 you can buy a bottle that will last the lifetime of the unit.

if the pax works half as well with tobacco as it does herb (which im sure it does) you will be ecstatic with it. i own 3 myself. just make sure you dont buy it 3rd party (from ebay) they won't honor the warranty. when you charge it put it in your dresser drawer mouthpiece up,charger on top and it will stay alot cleaner, no sticky mouthpiece. just think gravity! if you have an yquestions or need any tips, feel free to ask!
happy paxing my friend!

Charge your Pax right side up? I understand your idea but I'm not sure if I believe it will really make that much of a difference, did you have mouth piece problems before this and switching to charging right side up fixed it? I'd be very intrigued to hear if other people had success with that.

ive never had moithpiece issues, ive charged it like that since new (think gravity). i dont even use mouthpiece lubricant. it solved the issue for several friends also.
give it a shot. it'll make your pax, very happy. and you a believer. call vape world. ask sarah, david, gui, caroline, anyone there can tell you it works i told them all every one of my little tricks and they love em.
give it a shot. a week later youll wonder why you haven't been charging it like that.

Combustion free since '09
I'll second the charging method mentioned above. Place charger on top of upright Pax vs. upside down Pax. I'm convinced it stops the oils/residue from flowing down while charging.

I also agree to buy from an authorized reseller/save your receipt as I've had to use warranty service and was very pleased with how quick the turnaround was.

I would hope head shops are carrying genuine Pax units and not the counterfeits but there is a chance an unscrupulous shop owner would sell them to turn a buck. I'd want to be sure it's legit before purchasing in a shop.

I own 3 Pax units all bought through Ploom and I love them for travel but it won't replace a nice desktop at home ;)

Also, would you guys recommend the Pax for someone who would be using it while caddying? During the summers I caddy almost everyday and in the past would use a one hitter to light up on the course. Now i'm thinking about switching to a Pax but am concerned with its stealth? How much does it smell when it is heating up or being used? I'm worried golfers might be able to smell it in my pocket while its heating up or on. Thanks for everyones advice.
