My factory 2nd Aroma 3 is on its way and will be my first high end grinder. Is there a need to clean it or are they ready to use out of the box?
They are cleaned after they are machined according to one of the recent YouTube videos he did, however for mine I just did an iso wipe on the inside and put some iso on a qtip to wipe down the teeth which only took a few minutes.

Machine oil and coolant, not to mention swarf, is nasty stuff. It should never be allowed to make it to a customer. I imagine grinders like this are a huge pain to clean well given all the nooks and crannies. The cleaning and stages, as well as the drying racks, really stuck out to me as a nice way to scale up their operation.

Leaving the lids bare without any engraving was a great choice. I specially requested it removed from my Aroma 3, and it's beautiful. Really lets the design of the grinder shine. The OMD grinders are so iconic at this point there isn't any need to obviously brand it.

Hey Everyone!

update time:

I am exhuasted! It's been a full on month. Off to bed for Ben.
That XL looks super nice. I was kinda on the fence about not having the engravings on the top piece but now that I see it in-hand, I think the clean look looks great, especially on the XL

Also, which one of you ballers put there is gonna pick up this bad boy? 👀

LOL OMD's biggest competition is the Aroma 3's we have at home.
Totally, an XL would be nice but a ridiculous extravagance, the aroma 3 does more than enough and is such a joy to use I'm happy to grind more often! Now a titanium aroma 3, that is the only thing that can dethrone the original, an extravagance I am already saving up for.....

@OMD will we ever see a version of the Aroma-3 with a smaller diameter? For those who use less material at a time, and perhaps to reduce its weight a bit. I was thinking of a 55 or 56MM diameter maybe.

That would be about the size of the BCG and tbh I find the diameter a bit too small to get leverage for the grind, for relatively large hands I found the bcg too small to twist. on the other hand the 6-edged lid allows the hands to hold onto the lid better

I think the cost savings for a smaller version would be barely there and you get that much more real estate & gripping surface with A3 :) :2c:

I just got mine a couple days ago. I got super lucky and went on YouTube just when the video was released and was able to get the first one. I’ve only used it a couple times and it’s absolutely great. It actually feels a little lighter than I expected. It’s really big.. that is it sitting next to a large brilliant cut for size comparison.

I only got into dry herb vaping last month and went from smoking a dirty $20 bong for years to dropping hundreds of dollars on new vaping kit (including the WOHW and the titanium Tempest 2 preorder).

I decided it's time I upgrade my grinder with a 'buy it for life' purchase and I knew I wanted something big and stainless. How nice it is to find out that the best option is made locally and I can support an Australian made product! I just preordered the Aroma 3 XL for late June.

I grew up with my family business in laser cutting/manufacturing being around German lasercutting and CNC machines. It was a blast to get to see Ben's workshop with the modern Japanese CNC mill and robotics. Thanks for your hard work Ben!

Hello Everyone,

I figured its time for an update on the XL's

I have been having a rough time lately with the 2mm magnets that hold the cap in place. They’re so small that even minor variations in size have been a nightmare. I’ve had multiple magnets shatter while trying to press them in, they just disintegrating under pressure, rendering the part useless.

After a lot of trial and error (and a fair bit of swearing), I’ve had to change tactics. I’m now slightly opening up the hole and epoxying the magnets instead. It’s not what I planned, I am somewhat concerned a submerge in a iso bath could weaken the glue, but it works and keeps orders flowing out without risking breakage of the magnets.

Unfortunately, this has resulted in about two weeks of delays and a good chunk of my sanity. The gluing has added significant work to the already 4 hours of work in each XL.

I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop. I refuse to send out parts that aren't up to my standard. I will happily refund before i send out parts that aren't the best i can make. (i am hoping you all dont take me up on this offer!)

It's difficult for me to pickup a camera and film updates while i am stressed and trying to solve these problems. The issues have been sorted now and i plan to film a video showing in detail whats been going on.

Thanks for your patience while I get things back on track.

Ben

That must be very very frustrating. I fully agree with @TheDandelion , I couldn't express it like they did

I feel so invested with your passion project, if I may call it that way. We haven't met, yet I'm feeling for you

I applaud the transparency. I think we all got very excited when that rock able lid with magnets came about

It is done when it's done
