Old Head Freight Train

Would someone care to give some tips?
Received my FT yesterday, did 15mins burn off at 700. Then let it heat soak at 650 for 30mins. Set it up exactly the way Sneaky Pete did i his FT video with the Cube and dry herb catcher.
Slow pulls yield no vapor at all even after 20 seconds.
Normal pull yields very wispy vapor after 10s.
Extreme pull yields vapor after 4-5 seconds.
Experimented with stacking but wasting some vapors, and it just doesn't seem right.
What could be the issue here?

Im basically in the same boat is this user here. Running at 650 or much anywhere below 700 produces very little vapor on anything but a hard and fast draw. On my last session I ran it up to 745 or 750 and got the expected production. I can't believe that this unit is working as intended as my air Vape Legacy Pro out produces it except on temps up into the mid-700.

Using an infrared temp gun, one side of the head is at temp towards the bottom and the coils sit around 300, however on the opposite side of the head I am getting readings in the hundreds (100's) on the coils as well as in the same spot opposite where I read 600+ on the other side of the head. Maybe it is working as intended, but if so I would have to say I am very dissapointed that a ball vape, especially the Freight Train which Ive read excellent things about and why I chose it over a flowerpot, can barely outdo a battery powered portable.

I have reached out to Old Head, see where we get.

The temperature on your PID is not the bowl temperature, like on your ALP. It refers to the coil temperature. I am guessing this is your first E-mail vape?

Edited because I re-read your message. I misunderstood and thought you were comparing temps.

It may be related to your draw speed, glass or your weed. I don't have FT, but reading this thread makes.me think you may want to fiddle with it a bit more. Although reaching out to Old Head is good too.

Got a very quick response from Old Head and Im going to be sending it in. Great CS so far.

I didnt expound as much in my post as I did in my email, but Ive tried many sessions ranging from 650 all the way up to 750. I just dont think its producing what it should at 650 given that is the recommended temp. In no where ive searched has anyone needed to run their ball vape up to 750 to get this amount of vapor production. Set at 650 and not pulling as hard as I can will essentially produce no vapor. Maybe ive severly overestimated the FT and severely underestimated the ALP but the vast temp differences make me think somethings off. Not sure how one side of the head could read 250-350 on the coils and 600+ at the bottom of the head where the otherside then reads 100 something on the coils and bottom of head, but this is all new to me.

Curious how @emigre has fared as well

I found a way to improve the air flow on the Old Head Freight Train I upgraded from 4mm rubies to 5mm rubies got it from Amazon 20 rubies did the job I used 19 rubies 5mm temperature 675F much better air flow and better performance.

just ordered a freight train pro from vapenorth.ca. Troy from vape time says the freight train pro is currently winning his with in reach test. that tells me he finds it more enjoyable than the B0

I have the B0 and after upgrade to the 5mm rubies I can compare it more side by side to the B0 but I do think that the Pro is a beast but don't understand why Oldhead does not sale only the housing?

Purely a business decision, they need to offload all their PID's and coils. If they get bigger and more profitable I bet there store will grow and have more products available like cannabis hardware, will take time to build tho

FT looks like a fabulous vape indeed! Troy's opinion pretty much has never mattered to me as he seems completely unable to actually use the devices he has correctly or carefully. Although mostly his opinions only coincidentally line up with mine so he is no indicator of what I will like.

I like Troy's vids, seems very unbiased and he tests the vapes to their limits. Fun experiments and comparisons... And no offense but you sound pretentious and maybe a little jealous

I plan on getting around to posting that in the Ball vape thread here in about a week after I've had ample time to use all three side by side. It will actually include me and two other people because I also want to get their opinions as well so that the comparison will not be coming from just one source. I feel like that will give the most unbiased and fair comparison possible.

Just took my first freight Train pro hit…. produced The most flavourful hit ever in an instant. Truly like dabbing flower. Also very controllable like a dab, take it slow or as hard as you want. Stand is very nice, cool guard and handle too. I thought the injector would stick in the bowl but it Doesn’t when it’s warm. Also evenly vapes everything.

I can tell you a few things I have the B0 and the FT and the FT Pro.
side by side with B0 the air flow in the FT Pro is fully open very similar to the B0 but the effect that I get from the FT Pro is more intense then The B0 also the flavor is really good!
Still checking but solid performance and consist results I am running on 645F on the FT Pro and 630F on the B0 on RDK-300B PID

I actually asked if just the pro housing would be available and was told at some point. I'll try the 5mm rubies in the meantime.

I decided to get the FT Pro as the addon kit couldn't wait for housing only lol, the kit include coil handle and rubies.
The 5mm upgrade on the FT was OK improved air flow but changed the effect to less patency.

I have some 6mm sic pearls on the way. I plan on doing a mix of the 3mm rubies and 6mm sic pearls to see if I can open up the air flow a bit but keep a good thermal mass.

The elev8r bowl puts the end of the heater right smack on the herb. Ill see if I can snap a pic
