next generation e-nails?

I'd like to own an e-nail at some point. HE had a lot of problems with theirs and took it off the market, I've seen others but have no idea if they suffer the same problems - what would you say is the best e-nail out there nowadays?

Some FC'ers have the D-Nail, @ogcook's friend is working on a slick one. Those are the only ones I know of right now. Apparently the HE ones used the cheapest controller (it ran like $40 for 10 or something?) for an $800 device... which if it's true, then it's no wonder he had a 40% failure rate.

Looks nice! Will it go into production soon? Sorry if that's covered in the video, wont' be able to watch that till tonight.
Friend is making them right now! Well, has the parts and is putting them together now/soon. Also should have parts for the analog units soon to make them. Video just shows from cold startup to dab, to stable temp.

There's more this thing can do than a normal e-nail! I still need to test it all out and get the okay on sharing it with everyone.

Nice! Is there a waiting list for them? Perhaps a thread dedicated to the device?

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Pretty cool og... Yet I'm more anxious for the day of announcement of a 'quality AND reliable' nail set-up in a good pen ;)

I think sublimator's e-nailator deserves a nod in this thread too. never used it myself though. but my sub serves normal sized dabs beautifully.

I got to try this guy out last week. Works as advertised with a good price.

I like this simple not too pricey looks great!

Here we go! Now this looks great! Concentrate are becoming very popular and this looks cool. I like the fact that the price is not too high.

I want to see more of it!

ya know the chinees are allready cranking out e-cig and now e-cig wax burners......I wonder if they watch the news and know weed is becoming legal and concentrates are taking off?

rammbling , but fuck it I'm waked, vaked and ready for cake

Are those controllers pretty good (JLD612)? I was going to use the TA4 but I had not thought about the JLD612. Have you done any tweaking to the controller? Ive noticed some of the owners of the D-Nail have dialed in their controller, looks like they are using an ENDA controller.

Sorry guy's, didn't know about this thread. I got one of the units @ogcook buddy built!
Runs like a fucking tank.
Shiiiiiet guys, this isn't even a normal unit! @mvapes had the honor of getting his hands on a prototype unit before I even had one!

@bazzles I've seen a few people use the JLD612, they work great for this application. I've not done fine tuning, just the auto tune and trusted it and haven't had any issues. As for temp I mostly have it sit at 800, haven't had any issues, but easy adjusts to whatever temp you want. I've seen these coils hit 1400F+ and still keep rising using @mvapes' unit!

lol, the heater itself looks like a d nail version. only the d nail heats the shaft, but cable, connector, etc look the same.

I have not cracked it open, but from what i read about it, it can be reprogrammed and tweaked. However, don't know why you need to. It heats to temp in less that two minutes and holds it real close. Most i have seen it move if 5 degrees.

What I am waiting for is the quartz nail version. From what I understand it transfers the heat much more efficiently than TI. That's why the quartz nails cool so quick, but with constant heat that isn't an issue. I find it takes longer to vape so you pull slower on the TI. Using a torch heats the nail hotter. You can lower the temp on the quartz too for better taste.

Jump to 6:30 for any of the "action".
Just wanted to show the temp reading as it cooled, after shutoff the display will remain active until it reaches a safe temp, around 125-130F. Then shuts off.

@PhotoRider The heater is very similar if not the same style, the internals are nothing like it and top notch though. The box is more of what can change. Can use any coil/nail if you rewire it to your plug type.
I know he's looking into providing coils for more nails as well.

what is the expected cost?
I believe he's going with an introductory cost of $700 shipped and ready to go. Each one is hand built and carefully crafted.
Hopefully once more units more price can be brought down, but like I said, we're only onto unit number 2 of this design!

All E-Nails use the same heating coil, the plug types are what are different, the connector is MUCH different, it's not that 1"x1" block plug they somehow thought would be a good idea..... :horse:

As for quartz, I think you have it backwards. Quartz gain and release heat SLOWER than Ti since they have a lower thermal conductivity. Quartz should cool slower, but is likely that with Ti you're used to a larger mass holding heat. I haven't seen a single issue with needing a different pull speed between the two. Don't see how there would be a need aside from the actual design of the nail you're using since it's a balance between heat and airflow, no matter what material it's put too. What's to stop you from just using your E-Nail at a lower temp like you would presumably quartz?

Personally, I like boro's flavor over quartz. With Boro I have trouble gauging heat as boro glows faster than both Ti and quartz. And I couldn't possibly see this working with anything but Ti.

I think I will also like my new cord better. Don't get me wrong, the wrapped cord is great but a bit difficult to find a comfort spot because its so course. I can't find anyplace where he cut any corners, every single piece is perfect and every part I could find he bought the best of the best. I'm by no means an engineer but I'm pretty good with Google. This thing is fucking tank and compared to what I've seen on the market - some little nerd is gonna be rich!

Most friends that I have had use it want one. In fact there were numerous comments comparing how small the rear connector was compared to the D - Nail.

I heard theirs is like an xbox kinda plug.

This ones small, a mic kinda plug.

Nope, disagree with you. The thermo dynamics of Quartz transfers heat much quicker and dissipates or cools quicker. TI retains heat and cools slower. That is why if you over heat a quartz nail it can cause combustion while its much rarer for a TI nail to do that.

Also D-Nail is in full production on several quartz version so yes its feasible. I discussed the design directly with them. The guy has a PhD in thermal dynamics so I trust him and the data made sense to me. The controller curve changes I believe for the thermodynamics of the material.

Bet you $100 :)
I studied this in my Masters - Electrical engineering and cooling of silicon devices. All are coated with quartz to protect the wafer. Silicon/Quartz transfers heat much quicker than metal especially TI.

You may dislike the connector, but it was chosen for reliability from insertions (per them). Yes its big, but technically one of the best, only LARGE. They have a newer one with a smaller connector for those which prefer that, but I chose this one because of the reliability. The highest electrical failure rate will be that connector (right after the heater of course since its a wear item - it will fail at some point as will the connector). If you are going to state trade-offs please state either side to be fair. If one doesn’t understand all the trade-off's then one can not say one is better than the other really. Only that you like this one over that one until you know different.

Basically, if you are going to compare them, please be complete and correct. I hate agenda’s and being its from your friend please be fair and don’t spin the data. To me the words have a clear agenda. That’s unfair if you are not complete.

I have no vested interest in D-Nail verses anything else...

Also, I paid $510 out the door so this is 40% higher in cost. Yes it listed for $599, but you can get them at $510 all day long if in stock.

Just trying to be accurate and fair to both sides :)

Complete and correct in comparison on the units? All I compared was the plug size, not quality, reliability, durability. Size. That's it.

http://www.highlyeducatedti.com/blog/?p=261 For some info on Ti vs Quartz.

As for reliability of units, I've heard a 3 for 3 (or was it 5 for 5 @mvapes) fail rate on D-Nails that one shop got in stock. Not to say that there aren't solid units. Just what I've heard personally.

I haven't seen a D-Nail in person so I'm trying not to directly compare units as I don't have an actual feel for them.
