New Things or Gadgets In the Marketplace To Buy

It seems like new things are coming out everyday for folks to buy. Some good some not so good. This is interesting it's called the SoloWheel. This was at the trade show in 2012 but came out for folks to buy in 2014. Not sure I would buy this for myself but I can see other might be interested in it. Kinda like a Segway but with one wheel and no handle. A form of transportation or maybe fun (for some). I can see a lot of injuries but there's many thrill seekers.

I'm a HUGE gadget geek, but I typically try to stay behind by 1 generation so I don't have to play "beta tester" for the company. Here's a gift my wife got this past Christmas.

The Anova Sous Vide

It's a tiny device to convert any pot (or modified cooler) into a sous vide!

For those who don't know, these cooking devices were once very expensive and used only in expensive restaurants. It allows you to precisely cook food to a desired temperature. If you like your steak medium rare at 132F, you can easily cook to a perfect 132F every time.

(Naturally, I've also used it to make ABV Cannabutter, and was amazed at the results. There was almost no smell until after I finished cooking and opened the bag!)

Coincidentally, the Anova SV started it's life as a kickstarter campaign!

I hate to say this but that is a direct rip-off copy of the Air Wheel: http://theairwheelusa.com/

You are right about injuries. One FC member already broke his arm riding one . . . :o

DDave carves the pavement on one of these. Not a rip stick! I wore out the wheels on those in less than a month.... all the kids on the block prefer this over their rip sticks...

This one, the WhipTide, has the following advantages...
* with Dual wheels, get much more life out of a set before they need to be replaced.
* also, the dual wheels seem to offer more protection from lockup when hitting rocks or sticks
* the center piece offers much more flexibility, greater stability, tighter turning.

These are called Hearnotes wire free earbuds.
This article I got online. They aren't out yet to buy.

Las Vegas —I’ve tried wireless earbuds before—they’re a pain. They’re not trulywireless; oh, they might connect to your device wirelessly, but the left and right buds are still connected to each other with a wire. And that wire gets tangled in your hair, your shirt, your bag…. They’re a nuisance.

So when I spied HearNotes’ “WireFree” earbuds at the CES Unveiled event on Sunday, I wanted to know more. The black and neon-green earbuds are on the chunky side, and they have a rubbery hook that loops around your ear. But they’re surprisingly lightweight and of course there are no wires to drag them down.

The left and right components of these earbuds are completely separate wireless entities that pair to a transmitter you plug into your smartphone or media player’s headphone jack. And unlike lesser earbuds, the HearNotes don’t rely on Bluetooth. They use Kleer technology to get their sound across.

In my experience, Kleer delivers significantly better audio quality than Bluetooth, and it has better range, too: Up to 50, compared to 30 feet for Bluetooth). But that audio quality comes at a price, of course, and that price is battery life: The WireFree earbuds offer about four hours of playtime, while most Bluetooth headphones will give you between 12 and 20 hours.

Tesla Model S

xs_tesla-model-s-650-80.jpg

Tesla's Model S all-electric car is available in the UK. Finally! In its cheaper 60kWh version it will manage more than 200 miles on a single charge, while the 85kWh can do more than 300 if you drive carefully. A large 17-inch touchscreen controls the car, adding to its futuristic vibe. The Performance model can out accelerate an Aston Martin so it's no slouch, either.

From £49,200 | Tesla

Panono

Throw the Panono up in the air and by the time it lands back in your hands it’ll have captured an impressive 360 degree photograph. If you don’t think that’s awesome then you don’t know awesome. The ball makes taking panoramic shots as simple as it should be - just don’t let the dog at it.

Price: 549 euro | Panono

Tabletop games like HeroClix have made it possible to pit your favorite superheroes and supervillains against each other. Fun as those games are, nothing beats the classic game of chess when it comes to the variety of people you can wage strategy battles with. With the DC and Marvel Chess Collection, you can turn every chess game into an ensemble superhero movie.

"Iron Man": Prosthetic Hand

Tiny Tony Starks, it's time to suit up. This prosthetic hand was built to help kids with disabilities live and look like "Iron Man." Mechanical designer Pat Starace used a 3-D printer to print this particular hand, which comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, a USB charger, voice-controlled LED "lasers" and a "thruster" that lights up when the hand is tilted back. He is giving away the one he unveiled last week for free and is partnering with the online community E-nable to create more. His goal for the prosthetic hand? To make it "look awesome" and "raise self-esteem to superhero levels." We think it's pretty safe to say "mission accomplished."

Maybe you can't buy this in the regular marketplace, I thought it was a neat thing.

2014 Gear Of The Year: Flamestower

You’re just about ready to take that photo, capturing that perfect moment, when bam – your phone dies. It sucks; we’ve been there. As much as we want to get away when we’re outdoors – we don’t want to miss memories or get lost. You never know when the opportunity for the perfect selfie may come along. We use our phones, GPS and other devices for a lot more than Facebook and text messaging, so we need a way to keep them charged while on the go.

Heading off grid for multiple days’ presents its own set of challenges in terms of keeping your electronics charged, and the death of a cell phone is an event to be mourned. With the help of super smart engineers and scientists, there are now many products to help alleviate this problem. Everything from portable batteries, solar power chargers, and even fire, can get your USB powered device juiced up. No matter the activity there is a power solution for you.

If you like fire and get even the slightest bit excited that fire can charge your electronics, then the Flamestower is right up your alley. This lightweight, compact solution allows you to complete two activities at one time – cook a meal or hang out by the fire and charge your USB powered electronics. It’s that simple. Fold out the Flamestower legs, fill the collapsible reservoir with water and put the blade in the fire. The energy created will start to charge your plugged in device. The charging cord is long enough to not worry about your phone going up in flames, and the sturdy construction gives you peace of mind that the Flamestower will hold up to the heat of the flames. So go ahead, put your campfire to work and never miss another opportunity for capturing a precious memory.

Price: $89.99

Maybe we could even power up a vaporizer?

I LOVE this relatively new musical instrument.........The Harpejji. Kind of a cross between a piano and a guitar. Don't know if any of you caught the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2015, but Stevie Wonder played it with Bill Withers on Ain't No Sunshine.........overall, a great show, especially the band that played the pre introduction into the Hall of Fame for the Butterfield Blues Band, who, btw, didn't use a Harpejji but instead had an unbelievable harmonica solo (have only watched the first hour. It's on the DVR)....:

But..........back to the Harpejji...http://www.marcodi.com Looks like so much fun that I want to get one. Not cheap though....

Ah very cool, i saw Stevie Wonder live at a festival last summer and he was rocking that thing, i forgot what it was so thanks for reminding me :)

Atually he used it for this particular song (i dont recall the track) and he was taking a really long solo on this harpejji and it was really out of key (i'm a professional musician) im thinking either he cant hear the mix properly or this weird little instrument sounds really bad! Haha. He finishes the song and he says 'man, im not gonna lie to you, i couldnt hear anything then' pretty funny!

Amazing gig, really worth checking him out, these genuine superstars wont be around forever!

Funny you should mention that. I just found this raw feed from the show I saw last night where he stopped in the middle because he was out of key. Check out what he said before he resumed.

That's Bill Withers sitting next to him. Wonder is such a good vocalist, especially when he ad-libs. Those runs are insane.

Sorry for double post .. edit function expired

@lwien yes those runs are insane! Melisma is the technical name if your interested? Its so annoying these days all the x factor style singers just constantly do melismas at the end of every phrase. And really badly too! I guess Stevie is kind of responsible for popularising that style of vocal! We wont blame him for being amazing and everyone doing bad imitations though! :)

Melisma reminds me of the operatic alien from The Fifth Element.

Oh, it wasn't her name, which is Diva Plavalaguna. I just meant that her singing heavily employed that technique.

Somehow missed this post originally. I've had a Surface Pro 3 since January, and it's a great fucking device. Works very well when used during any sort of vaping activities :p

I was beginning to wonder if anyone else had one.

I've had my SP3 since last September, and I don't go anywhere without it, and I use it for everything. We home school our daughter, and the SP3 is perfect for that. You can start a lesson inside, and finish it outside, i.e.-field trips, etc. I would never go back to a laptop now that I am used to this kind of technology. I'm also hooked on inking.
