It looks like the actual size doesn't matter if you're considering one with a box mod. I like my splinter z and use it as a backup. You might check out the iheat as well- you didn't mention it. It also uses a box mod. It heats up faster than most portables including the z.
Ah yes the iheat, completely forgot about that one. Holds a solid amount I assume?
Fierce, Splinter Z, Firewood 5, Ghost MV-1. All will give you great effects.
I still need to do some research on the firewood to check out the bowl size as well as if dosing caps are offered. Unfortunately the dosing caps on the ghost are a bit too small for my liking
Although the Fierce will lag behind the others taste-wise, I think you will be happy with the Fierce as your entry vape. And it will make a good out & about vape for when you get your 2nd vape.
This is a large reason I find the Fierce appealing. All in one piece, easy to conceal, durable, simple, etc. I love the idea of loading up a bunch of dosing caps and just being done. Also found a really nice bubbler stem addition for it
I’m sorry to hear about the health issues and I hope the best for you in that regard.
If you were previously used to combusting in order to get medicated, then I am still going to 100% recommend that you at least look into a butane vaporizer. The high temperatures, convection heating, and full extraction coupled with the ritualistic use are all aspects that appeal to both former smokers and medical users who need a strong dose in a short period of time. Butane vapes are also “on demand” meaning you can get as little or large of an amount of medication out of your herb without needing to sit down and have a session.
Obnoxiously long lasting devices, lower maintenance, and not needing to worry much about dropping and breaking are also big pluses.
Appreciate it. This will perhaps be something I consider in the future but as of now the convenience and simplicity of a battery powered vape is what I'm after. Also feel like it'd be a bit weird/standout-ish to use a device like that in public if I wanted to take it on a walk or something
In the battery portable world, I do love my Fury 2 which is the little cousin of the Fierce. I like the stealthiness of the Fury 2 and will take the smaller size although you have less battery time than the Fierce. Otherwise, from what I hear from folks on the Healthyrips thread, lots of good reports on the Fierce and its accessories. I've not seen a comparison, but the bowl size is larger than the Fury 2. When you use dosing caps, you get convenience but lose a little on the amount of herb that you can fit in the chamber. Plus they have excellent customer service and a great warranty.
Now I must tell you, I am exploring the world of cartridge pens lately (the 510 thing you mention
). I have used a pre-loaded cartridge of distillate/CO2 oil a few times in the past and enjoyed it. I didn't continue with it because all that was available were cartridges that mixed cannabis oil with a solvent such as PG and VG. Nowadays you can get pure cannabis oil without additives more easily. I just ordered one of these little batteries to power the cartridges.

They are pretty popular and if you have access to pre-filled or load your own cartridges, then it makes a very easy to use set up. You just hit the pen and blow big clouds, until the cartridge runs out and then you stick a new one in. Very discrete and effective for a portable need. They can clog up sometimes so there are ups and downs. Maybe not your only vape, but a great addition to your arsenal for a cheap price.
I like the suggestion, however I'm near certain the price at which I'm able to acquire herb on a per gram/cbd basis is likely exponentially cheaper than the cartridge route
I agree about the fierce- I have the smaller fury and think its big brother would be a good beginning vape. The vapcap has lots of fans and although you don't want butane you could get a portable vapcap induction heater. It's the only way I'll use a vapcap and it works well. It's not truly portable in the sense you can bring it out and about with you but it's a good butane alternative for home use.
And again the iheat- one of the advantages of the iheat over many of the other devices like the z is that its creator- Alan, is very hands on. He responds quickly to emails. He also designs stems for many of the other devices like the splinter or nomad.
If I were to decide to get something that isn't portable I'd probably just go all out and get one of the powerhouse desktops, but yes I definitely need to do a bit more digging on the iheat
as much as i like my splinter and other Vapes, i guess the Mighty could be a good Vape for you and it is sort of a good starting Point....
Good Vapor, relatively big bowl, easy to use, NO leraning curve.
Good battery life.
Easy to buy, dosing Caps and a full range of spare Parts / additions...
and after you are familiar with this one, you can look into more special offers.
just my
I've spent quite a lot of time investigating the mighty. Ultimately what killed it for me was the maintenance hassle. Also the fact that at this point it in time I feel it's a bit dated. No removable battery, takes some time to heat up, seems like more of a convection/conduction hybrid vs pure convection, extraction seems good but at the cost of efficiency, etc.
My biggest priorities in all of this still remain the bowl size/session duration as well as the dosing caps option, preferably well sized dosing caps like with the Fierce. I'm a bit different than most in that I am willing to make some rather substantial sacrifices if it means extending session duration. Dosing caps have progressively inched their way up my priority rankings the more I conceptualize their convenience and ease of use in different scenarios
From what I understand dosing caps don't look to be an option with the Splinter Z unless it is custom and can accommodate capsule stems? And even in this scenario, we're talking small dosing caps correct? Like fury2 size?
Also, what are your guys' thoughts on the Boundless Tera? I've heard mixed things. Seems to have better extraction than the Fierce but supposedly the vapor can be harsh despite operating at the same temperature. Tera thread doesn't seem all too active on here either
Appreciate the contributions everyone has made thus far. Really helps speed up the process
