More Down than Up

I'm noticing that the euphoric, enhanced consciousness type of feeling is just too brief as compared to the heavy head dopey feeling that spirals down the high. I also find that if I close a session by going to sleep, I wake up with hangover-like symptoms. This all is starting to turn me off from medicating. I have an eplieptic-like condition, my brain fires differently. Maybe that has something to do with it. I also wonder if I am too introspective during a high rather than keeping myself experiencing things outwardly and in the moment. Maybe I should also try turning off the damn TV. I don't know if it's my chemistry or my mental behavioral tendencies, or if it's just sometning in my medicating technique. But I'd really hate it if getting high is turning into a drag.

I'm using an Omicron, no variable temps, and I'm not sure how much of what I've vaped has been Indica leaning. I pretty much have been getting the same effect on everything. But, Kerozen, I'm interested in understanding the effects of different temperatures and Indica hybrids. Can you explain why these factors could make the difference between a negative and positive experience?
The science of it all intrigues me.

Vape a bit less and avoid it before bed?

Could be symptoms of dehydration, just a guess.

I've heard that vaporizing can really take a toll on our bodies and you need plenty of water during a session.

Or as stated by Deja Vu, maybe you need to medicate with less. Maybe you are overshooting and just need to back off a bit.

Best of luck getting it figured out.

As has been stated, the temp you use can make a difference. Most of the sedative and analgesic cannabinoids are at the high end of the temp scale. It's hard to avoid all 'hangover effect', but if my memory serves (my combustion days were so many years ago :myday:), it's considerably less with vapor, vs. smoke.

@Tweak where did you hear that vaping takes a toll on the body and you need plenty of water DURING your sesh?

Nothing scientific, just from other users on here. I wish there was more literature on vaping, sadly we are the pioneers, :D

A quick google search give me a bunch of results, but they are all for e-cig vaporizers, which they say dehydration is caused by the VG and PG.

I would guess that sucking in hot air and plant oils would have a similar effect, maybe just not as extreme (or maybe even worse).

I don't think you can compare vaping herbs and chemical e juices, but that's just my opinion. I highly doubt vaping herbs is worse. I was just asking because I drink 3L of spring water daily, but never around vape time.

I didn't, I picked my words very carefully as to not compare the two and pointed out the reason e-cigs cause dehydration. :p

What do you think we are vaping off the herbs other than chemicals? Any chemical your body has to get rid of, takes water to eliminate (through sweat or urine). Add in the fact the compounds we inhale need to be heated and dehydrated before they become an aerosol.

If you wait until you’re thirsty to drink, you’re already dehydrated. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short term memory, confusion, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on computer screen. I believe that is easily possible from just one session.

my recs:

-video games instead of tv (or music, cooking, drawing, anything active)
-high cbd strain (less psycho active thc. try a 50/50 cbd/thc, people say some thc enhances the cbd)
-end sessions an hour before bed. try to sleep without taking another hit. lessens next day hangover daze and also gives you a mini t-break

Interesting....I've never experienced any hangover effect whatsoever as a result of smoking or vaping weed(even after overindulging). I suppose everyone's biochemistry is different though..

It seems that the OP's major complaint is less euphoria and more couch lock when medicating. Why not go with strong sativa's like Jack herer, Green Crack or Super Silver Haze. These strains are intensley euphoric, yet produce little or no lethargy. That said, I have know idea which strain or cannabinoid profile is best for your epileptic condition. Good luck!!

mj hangover isn't the misery you get with alcohol, just kind of a lethargic, fuzzy headed feeling. At least I assume the complaint is the typical herb hangover.

I'm not going to say its positive ... but I'm pretty much severely dehydrated all the time as far as I can figure it based on my water intake (vs coffee etc) ... I "try" to drink more water ... but I have a real hard time of it ... I have a hard time remembering to eat when I'm hypomanic I'm so focused on what I'm doing and then when I'm depressed I have to force myself to eat because I don't feel like it .. good thing I have cannabis to help keep my appetite at least existent ...

I haven't noticed a difference in hydration since I've begun vaping about 2 years ago ...

I appreciate all the replies. Interesting opinions. Well, I'm not a daily user, and usually one drag takes care of me for the night.I guess I have a low tolerance. I've been into vaping for about 6 months now so I'm not very knowledgeable about the varieties. Like I said I'm using an Omicron pen style vape, therefore I'm using only oils and waxes. What I described at the top post is pretty much what I've experienced going back to the days of combustion. Perhaps I'm dwelling on this so much at this point because the good part of the high has been a never before experienced feeling, thanks to vaporisation. It's disappointing that the feeling doesn't last, but even so when the negative part of the experience appears to last longer than the positive.
I like the vape I'm using,I think w9 is a good company, but do you guys think it'd be worth it for me to go for more of a high end vaporiser?
I have a depressive disposition, attributable to the movement disorder. I think I'm going to try being more conscious of maintaining the good feeling. I'm believing this could be accomplished by keeping my mind from digging deep into my head. Been focusing too much on feelings, perhaps too much thinking., to the point where my forehead is tensed up. I should keep myself more outwardly aware and open . Making an effort to be more active would probably be helpful. There's been too much sedentary, passive activity (isn't that a widespread American problem?). This is all just theory, but worth exploring. It's a vast universe and I'm hiding in a corner. Sounds like I actually may be craving psychedelics.:o:p

Start by dropping the concentrates, and stick with flowers if your tolerance is so low. It may make all the difference for you. I know I went into some pretty decent withdrawal after a shatter binge, and even flowers didn't help.

I agree...Concentrates are for high tolerance users. Stroonz, I suggest you get a flower vape and pick up a solid sativa dominant strain. The extreme lethargy you describe could be caused by the concentrate being too strong for you as an occasional user. That's why it causes short lived intense euphoria followed by knocking you the fuck out. Flowers will give you a more balanced high IMO. It's worth a try!

Yes, definitely worth looking into. Thanks.

yeah, i think people are on take with there being little need for concentrates for low tolerance users, I know some people that get more high than they'd like from a little dab. I'd probably go flowers and I'd go specifically with strains known for euphoria and more of an "up" high. But different people respond to things differently.

I used to get a lot more of the introspective stuff when i was a young stoner, whereas now it mainly helps with my anxiety and relaxes me. But it's getting the right strains that really help me.
