Mobius Glass

That could almost be me

I only have 4 mobius pieces at the moment (well, 3 in hand, 1 in the post) though, but I've owned 6 different ones in total

I can't wait to get my ion, it'll be nice to be able to compare it to the clear :D

Let us know what you think. I would be interested to hear a mini review with your thoughts on the difference between them.

No way, I spend close to $2000 on one brand glass, especially for multiple pieces with the same perc. Sure, I have 3 M&M, but I haven't spent anywhere close to that and they are 3 very distinct pieces, from 3 different eras of the glass.

One of the conclusions I've come to, subscribed to this thread... is the Matrix is NOT the water pipe for me. One of the things that instantly fascinated me, about the DR was it being dragless. You the vape and some water cooling. But, nothing really distinguishable. Its dragless, there really isn't an experience. Sure, its a smooth hit, but most every piece I have hits smooth.

The other night, in the middle of a session... I rinsed the DR out, hot water wash and put it away. Grabbed a different piece. Heck, right now... I'm using my little HVY tube, with Mike's gridded downstem.

If a piece is truly dragless though, then I kind of equate that to boring. Plus, after viewing hundreds of videos, watching 20-40 points of diffusion fire out of close to 200... meh. I know, I experience the same with the Dirty Rico

Now a Reti... that looks like fun. Plus, they're cheaper. Heck, I could even pick up this and save well over $100.

Here's a nice video of it, though... no damn milk shot. Clean cuts, however.

Who knows. Might just get the real deal, for the name... but I've always been function over form. From what I'm reading so far, they pull exactly the same.

Still though. I love the looks of the Mobius Reti and from reading, especially your remarks about it... it just sounds more like my kind of piece. Nothing against Mobius. I would rather discover the Reti up front, than... Oh crap! Wish I got the Reti! Though, it wouldn't be hard to unload a Matrix to get a Reti... that's for sure.

When I posted earlier re being able to "angle" the Cloud relative to the Ion - may have been a poor choice of words - I was referring to the swivel that's possible. You can position the Cloud directly opposite the neck or you can swivel the CB in the radius to the left or right a couple inches. Depending on how you position your head to the mouthpiece, this may afford a little more distance. The Ion will be a tad less balanced with the Cloud in the outside joint of the CB vs in the dewaar center, but for me that's still fine as I prefer the extra space.

I've seen the DR pieces and they are nice. Actually had a DR inverted showerhead, now in the hands of a friend who is digging it. The Apocoline is cool, although I'd guess not quite a smooth as a Matrix but that's just a guess.

We talk about the percs a lot but in my (admittedly less) experience with these pieces, the dewaar makes a big difference compared to a stemless. Just seems to be less drag and smoother. Maybe that is just the pieces I've used rather than the dewaar per se.

Or maybe my perception is being thrown off by the hallucinations; that has happened before. :ko:

You're using a 45 degree adapter on top of your Ion? Pictures? Not clowning... I was just looking at some pieces yesterday and was building things in my head. Just trying to be clear on this.

Here's an Ion with:
  • 22.5 degree adaptor (18mm male-female)
  • 18/14mm reducer
  • HI Turbo Tube

I prefer the 22.5 compared to my 45 degree adaptor because the 22.5 keeps things more upright while still allowing for improved viewing angle.

Well, that's kinda cool. Does the 14mm reducer add a little drag?

(I wouldn't do this with my Cloud though, looks like it would still require being supported by hand.)

Just enough drag for a log. Plus, the Turbo Tubes are 14mm GonG so I'd have some sort of reduction even with an 18-14mm 22.5 degree adaptor and no 18-14mm reducer.

With the 60t I could balance a Cloud, LSV, or anything on the 22.5 degee joint but never the 45 (I once put a DBV on the 22.5, but got scared).

The Mobius site is down for repair.
Were these pics posted before?
Is the Matrix Watertrap/Recycler this years 4/20 release (and I'm just late to the party as usual)?

The Dirty Rico Bubbler is a Dewaar. There isn't any drag. Watch the videos. Just as with other dragless percs, only the top row(s) fire, because you can't draw at a fast/hard enough rate to pull air through it, any more quickly, or greater volume. In other word, dragless. I can't see how you get much smoother than that.

Why would the Matrix bother you?

Well hell. You know. You even said yourself. They say it's dragless, but, is it really? You know, the hype and all.

That's just my opinion, as are all of the views expressed in this thread. I think a Reti, or Reti-style perc would be more to my liking. At least, that's the impression from Frederick's input on the differences, he's observed.

I've seen you express yours. I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, you're quite enamored with the Matrix, so I was wondering why "one of those damn 'matrix' percs" would bother you?

The Watertrap does have a small Matrix perc. I haven't tried it out yet but here's a few details (apologies if the terminology isn't correct):
- top joint is 18mm male
- side joint has an 18mm male which holds a dish. This side joint is used to help empty/fill water.
- there is a second very small (10mm?) side joint that holds a glass dabber. This is just to hold the dabber (no airflow).
The guy at the store told me to fill the water to near the bottom of the top bridge joint - higher then the pics shown above. He said there should be some waterflow through the top bridge joint. It's definitely going to take some experimenting with...

Well hell. You know. You even said yourself. They say it's dragless, but, is it really? You know, the hype and all.
I certainly don't have a lot of experience (MMJ since 8/12) but IMO my 60t Stereo Matrix has a very small amount of drag and my Ion Matrix has no drag that I can feel. I have not tried other Mobius percs.

Oh, and yes, Watertrap costs I saw were $750 for the clear, $850 for one with a little work and $1k for one with some nice red and black rims and a worked dome, along with some more sandblasting.

It looks like it reclaims into the watertrap well at the end???
From an initial dry test, the water level in the video appears to be too low - if the water level is closer to the upper bridge then waterflow goes from the matrix perc side into the 'watertrap' side. One thing I did notice when pulling hard is splashback - I don't pull hard but that might be an issue for some.

So how do you dab out of the Ion? I am going to buy a domeless Ti nail but the $70 HE one is DI so that won't work. InfiniTi by HE looks like it would work but I read somewhere domeless is bad for dewaar joints. Any domeless nails that you suggest getting?
