WOW! Dan emailed right back and is sending me out a working unit right away! :D Best service from a vape company yet PERIOD! Back to the scheduled program..You can load weed and wax in a single bowl as well as sip or rip this puppy. The design makes for cool 430 degree convective hits. You can get your ABV super dark almost to combustion but never a burnt taste which is pretty KEWWL! I would also like to mention the Stealth of this unit. It can be put to your ear like a cell phone if need be and because the MP is small and inconspicuous no one would susepect otherwise. There is also no smell coming from the unit when on. That is definitely a plus for me!:haw: This one is really growing on me pretty fast!

Mivape is here! Initial thoughts:
I disagree with everyone on the quality aspect... Yes it does have a cheap light feel to it, but id rather have a light weight vape in my pocket than a solid heavy brick. Also as for the silver plastic parts instead of metal was a good choice because the unit gets very hot especially around the heater area... Would have taken forever to cool if they used metal.

The auto off feature is nice, and i like that you can override without having the unit shut off before you can turn it back on...

Still getting the hang of herbs have had so so results so far, uneven abv and real dark/ black on the bottom... I did start at a very high temp, didnt believe the mivape temp guide. Had a few more sessions get amazing taste right off the bat now but doesnt last long and turns burnt popcorny really fast... And still uneven real dark in the bottom

Oil is amazing with this thing right off the bat... I did blacken/burn the cotton on the bottom of the dish it crumbled when i took it out. Looking into trying steel wool possibly today.

Wow, those last 2 posts seem pretty contradictory! What gives? Sounds like each of you had a completely different experience, with flowers anyway.

with convection, its all how you hit it!;) (draw speed) to fast and it vapes the material too quickly, too slow, no vapor production. Ahhh, just right! :)

Pure convection, or some conduction too?
Cooking your herbs if you don't hit it like Mighty/Solo would? Since its seems to be session style not on demand convection yes?
not like the mighty. You have to pull the air up through the spiral glass tube. It will get dark if you hork on it at 430. No more then the ascent though. The screen on top of the bowl gets pretty hot but it seems like it absorbs the heat as it enters the mp to cool the hit. Like the silicone washer in the air's mp does. :)

Nice, so if you load it up and turn it to a 400 something setting, without drawing it doesn't cook anything at all?

Glad the long wait for this guy seems to be well worth it so far, still early though I suppose

That's what I'm wondering.....I think there is definitely some conduction going on and I was suspicious when I first saw Sconsin's mivape video when it took another 1:30 to "warm up" after the unit had reached temperature, leading me to believe that the glass has to get hot too, including the cup for good vapor production i.e maybe conduction heat too. Now, it just may mean that it takes awhile for the glass/spiral air path to "catch" up to the heater coil's set temperature after that has been reached, so all the glass is the same temperature as the heater coil to produce hot air for convection and/or there is conduction going on because the glass continues up and around the herb/wax cup so that has to get hot too. My unit heats up in 30 seconds but I don't usually get vapor until about 1 minute to 1:30 in and I have been using it at 250-275F equivalent to 300f-325f.

I am also wondering about the air intake, because I can cover those holes and it doesn't really affect the draw so it must be pulled in from somewhere else as well.........

Nope, just ready to blast with 400 deg air:)

So you have packed a cup and turned it on for say 5 minutes without drawing at all and the herb is un-vaped? I have been getting dark abv on the bottom of my cups even at 260f which is equivalent to like 310F according to the miVape temperature conversion chart.

What are your thoughts on the air intake?

I can say that the miVape has good battery life, so far I am 5 cup loads in, 5-6 minutes each and my battery bar is not even half way yet! Much better than the Crafty at the same size but I think the Crafty is more powerful.....

Thr harder the draw the faster the hot air passes through the weed. You can combust in convection vapes like cera firefly and hammer if you know how. This one you cant but the weed will turn almost black if it is being drawn on too long at high temps. Once its up to temp it takes longer to get vapor cause you have to have a constant flow of hot air through the load to get IT to temp.:)

I am getting better results with bud getting more even abv... First few hits are super tastey (albeit no vapor) then as soon as vapor starts being produced its burnt popcorny tasting.

Also noticed that if i leave the unit heated and forget to take a hit for a minute or two the bottom of the material i loaded is definitely darker/black... I also havent had the temperature above 300 im running it at low 200s and getting pretty decent clouds after a few hits...

I also notice no difference in vapor after it starts producing visible vapor... I start around 280 and then once i start seeing clouds i go down to 230 and the clouds stay the same the entire time...

I had the same issue with the cotton and oil, i left it on and didnt take a hit for a few minutes... Took the cotton out and it was black on the bottom and crumbled away when i took it out and that was set at 325 for oil

@Mynameismud what temp scale are you talking above? 280 sounds way too low for Fahrenheit and way too high for Celsius for vaping flowers to me.

Farenheit, im told theres some software updates in the works.

As of now im getting almost even abv but its very dark. And im using it for about 8 minutes at 275 to start then drop to 230F after a few puffs... Also if i wait a minute or so while its at the temp i set i get immediate vapor when i puff and it already tastes like burnt popcorn.

Trying oil again with 2 cotton cloths set at a lower temp

I'm gonna keep asking you guys if it gets overwhelmed when you huff on it. Hook a brother up!

@smutman @Just Justin @ShayWhiteGrow
I have not overwhelmed the unit Yet but I havnt tried either. I don't think it has the power of the Crafty which I can vape a chamber in that within 5 ish hits, more or less but with the MiVape it takes more hits to vape a smaller amount but I am still testing and also using it on a lower temp. For some reason, temps are always different with vaporiers, 350 on one may not produce vapor but on another you might get clouds on the same temp. 350 should be 350 on every vape and you should get the same results but I guess every vape is unique, they have different heaters, different chambers etc....

My MiVape came with a conversion vchart from vaporfection because for some reason this first batch of units is running hot and I will try to post that tonight and for example on the chart, of you want to vape at 300f then you need to set the MiVape to 250f and so on.....vaporfection is working to fix this as well as other possible issues like the battery spring, battery door and top lid.

might be an issue with your unit. Dan said they were tweaking the software then they would replace any faulty units. I dont get a burnt popcorn taste?:)

So what does this mean, will I be stuck with a defective unit? Still waiting for mine to arrive, I pre-ordered in 2012. But I did get a UPS notice a couple of days ago, saying it's been shipped. Also got a generic "thank you for buying the miVape" e-mail which included the conversion chart below and the following text:
As the miVape launched this week, we received some feedback from customers who had questions regarding the correct operating temperature. We understand that there is a general rule of thumb for the best temperatures when it comes to vaping, so we decided to make a little table to help you out so you can get the best vapor experience possible.

Not exactly. :D Every unit won't be bad. This is a rollout of a new product, hiccups are the price we pay to have it first. They know of the issues and take care of them pretty much instantaneously which is incredible! I'm also wondering if the quartz glass bowls might be just a little thin thus getting too hot on the bottom and at high temp (430) and high air flow being blasted onto that bowl causing a slight char?? just an observation, but thicker glass (ala INH05S, and Enano) used with superfast heating make for a really flavorful journey while protecting the herb from too much heat. Although I did combust in the nano once:doh: so who knows for sure.

The fact is, customer support to this level is the only way rolling out a phase 1 product can be this good. Hats off to Dan. You can feel it when someone authentically gives a shit, and it makes you feel like part of the team. He is reaping the rewards of caring about our experience with us wanting to help him succeed.

I took the unit hiking today, way up the mountain in my ancient iolite case. Glass path pure flavor high in the hills. Rightous. Working on the video. I def rec a fine grind and not overloading.

How do you feel about the air intake? My unit seems to pull air in from somewhere else in addition to the actual air intake holes around the usb.

Also, whats your take on the convection heat? Do you think there is some conduction going on as well? I have not packed a cup and let it sit without hitting it yet to test for conduction.

vapor would come out of the top of the mp if conduction (cooking) was happening. I cant try till mon hopefully. What are your results?:)

Ok, so how do I know if I should use the conversion chart or not? Just by trial and error? And if I do need it, will I get a new unit? The e-mail wasn't very informative. They make it sound like everyone should use the chart and say nothing about faulty units. I thought accurate temperature control was one of the selling points for the miVape.
