This shows the relative size of Crafty and MVT.

I am comfortable now getting 8-12 draws from a small load of herb in the MVT; stirring no more than once per load. The ABV is pretty spent.

I put several small loads through the MVT, getting the ABV pretty toasted. When I had accumulated about .2 gram I loaded it in a Crafty and went straight to boost temperature of 188c which is 370f. I got huge clouds of smoke not vapor and felt like it was combusting except the temperature was too low for that to happen. The Crafty felt really hot to the touch and I did some mouth draws without inhaling. Smoke poured out. I can't explain it and won't try that again. Too much like smoking!

@flotntoke great review. Thank you for taking sharing.

@muunch the killswitch will be available but for anyone in after 4/16 it will be an option. When I came up with it on Vape Dr.'s suggestion I let myself get caught up in the moment and didn't fully evaluate the time it takes to install it. After all it cost less than $1, how hard could it be? Turns out to do it right is a pita and requires several extra steps. So I understand that it is important for some and it will be offered.

Missed your question earlier....

I haven't really counted seconds consistently while feathering. I've tried, but seems like a moving target for me. It is more of a "feel" thing.... "

@flotntoke I don't think you could have put it much better . It's not an exact science as there as so many variables. However your description of the coils responses is useful , as I can experiment with this. Most of all though just knowing that performance can be enhanced with feathering is a great help. As I was getting good results even without any feathering. Thanks for your detailed response, which will definitely help others

I agree with your comparisons between the Mi and MVT especially about the MVT being more refined. I think I called it more reserved in my post 1st thoughts on my MVT.

:rofl:I'm vaping and reading and typing and I know I'm feeling it cos a just had a Dire straits moment,

I want my , I want my , I want my MVT.

Can't get it out mi bleedin' Ead Now! :mental:

Having a hard time not getting hotspots on the herb and combusting. Am I packing too much at once?

How full I pack mine doesn't seem to cause problems, though I think I get better results with it only lightly tamped down. Unless yours is different, it may be related to a combination of the length of your button presses and draw speed.

I usually 1) preheat for about 4-5 seconds, 2) then continue to press for 3-5 seconds while I draw lightly, 3) continue to draw lightly for 3-4 seconds without the button pressed, 4) then repeat steps 2 and 3 for however long I feel like continuing. If it's already hot from use, I preheat less, or not at all. Also, with each cycle, I turn the stem 1/4 turn, which helps minimize the hot spot.

I would imagine it's a bit different for each user, based on personal preferences, so you'll need to play with it. It will also depend on the condition of the battery, with a fresh charge definitely heating faster.

Don't get discouraged. I charred the heck out of some of my early stems, but haven't (at least not seriously) in a long time.

I find less tamping does a little better.

Do you turn glass about 1/4 turn between hits? This seems to help disburse the heat around the whole load. One of those Mi tricks that works here for me, too.

I think the optimum amount of stem rotation after each draw depends of the size and offset of the hotspot from the center of the stem. I don't know how consistent @mistvaporizer can make current production; but mine is recent vintage. I have tried 4 draws, 6 draws, and 8 draws per revolution. I found that 6 draws with 60 degree rotation between draws works best for me.

I am using LG HG2 batteries sourced from IMRbatteries. Using a newly charged battery requires that you feather the Touch to avoid combusting. After a few days with maybe 2-3 stems per day I don't feather nearly as much. I like the hit of coming close to combusting.

I have been using the two screen method as recommended loading .05 to .07 gram each time. Tonight I loaded .07 gram and took 6 draws with the 2 screen method. Then I stirred and tamped a bit. I took another 6 draws without a top screen. The ABV was pretty well spent. I am liking this MVT more and more.

I do have a suggestion. I think the deep screen is too deep to use on top of the load without packing. I think the shallow screen is harder to seat correctly on top of the load. My vote would be one screen depth in between the current two choices. Any thoughts?

@flotntoke thanks for review dude you taught an old dog new tricks. Your description of MVT and its tactile response has really enabled me to zoom in on what I want. I hold button for few seconds and inhale at Mi speed (super duper slow) and can get clouds on clouds! Low temp! high temp! Everything in between!

Thanks for thorough review again!

I turn halfway through, the side closer to battery gets more roasted on mine for sure! I have a beta/V1 type model though

I have had great success getting the shallow screens as a "cap" on top of the load. I push the flatter side towards the medicine and the jagged edges up. It takes a bit of practice, but you can get the shallow screen depth between your medicine and the bottom of the unit.

AWESOME!!! Glad it helped. I'm still trying to count off when I do what to post a little more about technique here, but I am usually all over the place as far as number of seconds on or off the button. It's a zen thing. :)

This works well, but if you flip your main screen (sides towards mouth/away from load) you have a lot more room to play with shorter load depth on short screen. I really like my main screen set up like this whether using short screens on top of load or not. It's just a bitch to get them in there this way!

Question. I'm working a deal with ppn for his Mvt. He says it runs a little hot. Am I able to get it tuned a little lower so it's manageable for flowers? If so how much would this cost me? Thanks in advance

Since it is a manual vape (no power if button not pushed) I would say less time on the switch should solve the problem. When @mistvaporizer next gets on the thread I am sure he will have more info.

@mistvaporizer is the 14 mm GONG throated like the standard stems? I am having trouble getting the screen situated.

@sickmanfraud the gong doesn't have a ledge. I haven't been able to find these in thick walled glass so I ship two push sticks with them. If you use one stick on the bottom and the other on the top it is easy enough to position the screen. You need to use the bottom stick if you tamp the load.
I've been deep in production mode and have a batch of frames ready for machining. I'll post pics of the custom frames today or tomorrow, there are snake wood, bocote, purple heart and Kings wood trim.

Bought one from ppn but says it runs hot. Am I able to send it in to get toned down or is it just a matter of less time On the button? It is a production unit he said

I'm supposed to be cleaning up the shop but who wants to do that! So here is some vape porn for you. Well since they are just the frames and not vapes yet I guess it is wood porn. Oh that could be not the right term either:rofl:

I only have 2 bocote frames. I cut up a larger piece and picked the greatest grain I could find.
Important to note that the frame wood is pretty rough yet. It is the correct size but has not been finished. I wanted to do videos to see if the 3D nature of the wood shows up, it is hard to capture in still pics. I think it shows up nicely in the video.
The other important point is that the wood used for these trimmed frames was hand picked from all the available wood. They are among the finest quilted maple pieces I have seen.

on the right in each pic are the new cup screens. They are slightly shorter but the main thing is they are smooth around the edges. The new screens are 316 SS the old ones were 304 SS, that in my opinion is a trivial difference. I really do need to clean the shop now

@sk8man121 Best thing I found for this is the double screen method. Using the shallow screen on top. This seems to even out the heat dispersion. It definitely helped for not combusting. The hotspots can then be managed with rotating the stem after each draw.

@mistvaporizer Wow! Even unfinished they look really lovely, with some real Beauties in there. You can really see that almost holographic shine on them. There's going to be a few very happy new touch owners.

He is comparing it to his early beta which has a different coil, it'll be fine for you don't worry. Yes just less time on the button, feathering even, you should also put your screens further down in the joint and don't overpack, worst thing is you have to stir a bit more, but it'll come down to technique so you'll get it with practice anyway. No reason to send it in since most units have had slight variation being handmade

Damn, such good stuff. Seeing these pics/videos whetted my appetite, for sure. So I strolled over to mine and lit her up. Excellent engineering and craftsmanship, Joe, really some top notch work.

If anyone is one the fence, all I can say is that I'm glad I took the plunge. The custom frames are worth it. My snake wood is gorgeous. It takes a little practice (tough stuff, I know) to master, but the payoff is worth it.
