@stickstones Yeah indeed, it's impossible to make a comparison without having both, and there can't be too many people around in that position! like I say I'd love to try an older unit to see if the flavour lives up to the hype.

On a different note ~ I've recently changed to using the smaller basket, it's amazing just how far a tiny bit of herb goes with the MV!

The glass core has a slightly wider diameter than the Teflon core with the insert. But the insert won't fit in the glass core...too big.

And yes, the glass is more of a sleeve than a core. If you take out the screen in the bottom of the chamber you can see the heater and exchanger. The heater appears to be some sort of metal plate in the center of a ceramic exchanger.

So it still looks like this?

I really think my glass unit is malfunctioning in the taste department. But then again, I don't know if others have the two side by side like I do, either.

I'm sure it's unrelated since mine is teflon, but as I was also going through a few days of getting a spent taste even from the first hit I'm wondering if there is some connection there? Although probably not, because with my longer herbie whip installed it seems to be a non-issue.

Regarding the vapefeid video, it's basically a promotion video for new products right? So aren't they naturally going to skew towards favorable impressions of upgraded units? Users here are here to speak the truth only, no marketing motivations at all. Just a thought...

So it still looks like this?

I've been down in mine a few times (it looks just like that) and I really thought that the material surrounding the heating unit is some kind of metal. @stickstones Is it ceramic in the new ones?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have always assumed that what I posted a picture of is the part that's failing/ has failed at least on my units. When you described it as 'metal plate' and 'ceramic exchanger' I thought for a second that a re-design happened. So the only significant change that's obvious is the Teflon to glass core I guess.

I don't know what the materials of the heating element and heat exchanger are, but the exchanger looks to be the same material that is used in the Vapor Genies. The Genies use a ceramic heating element that is made up of a bunch of very small 'c' shaped pieces all stacked together. If I'm right, then the air passes through the ceramic heat exchanger, also touching the heating element. If the heat exchanger is as long as the entire unit, or close to it, that would indicate a significant amount of heat retention and the ability to really huff on it, which has been my experience so far. I think it was the heat element that was failing in the units this last year.

So the only significant change that's obvious is the Teflon to glass core I guess.

Hermes has spoken of the glass core being one of the changes..I am not privy to any others. The glass core is the only change I can visibly verify.

EDIT: I'm going to test the glass core again today and tonight to see if I still have the same opinion. I used it at least two times by itself and then once side-by-side to confirm last time.

Hello all! Been a Pinnacle Pro user for a year, but fed up of this temperamental device now and apparently there's some real beauties out there.

Was very close to buying the Mighty, then saw someone link to this thread and say it was just as awesome. Have to say I'm swinging towards this even though it's super expensive. Seems like it's premium and designed with the best vapour experience, and that's what I want to spend my money on.

Questions I still have after going over last 30-odd pages:

1) I definitely want to use this on the sofa and not tethered to the power cable so would get the Portable version at least. Without the power adaptor piece is the MV unusable if the battery has run out, or can it be used on a desktop while sitting on the battery charger plate?

2) we have the lovely little bubbler for the Pinnacle Pro, what would I need to attach that to the MV? I saw am official glass attachment that goes onto the end of the whip, 14mm i think, would that do it? Not sure what width the PP bubbler is.

3) I gather the MV has glass internals for purity of flavour but I can't seem to find any detailed breakdown of the design and manufacture of the device, so can anyone clarify? If there's glass inside does that make it something you never ever want to drop from any height? And regarding taste, does the whip or plastic mouthpiece taint the flavour in any way?

I would like to heard the Roger D thoughts about the glass core....if Hermès provided him a beta test unit....I expect yes since he supports them!

As the decarb kit I think the glass liner provide more conduction....but is it the only improvement?

If it is it's more a glass liner than a glass core isn't it?
I remenber to created an All glass obsession thread, I got doubt about the purest taste of glass after to make a comparative test between my Cloud+ and my MV....

I'm supposed to get one, I sent my backup MV a couple weeks ago to get it beta updated. I'll keep you guys updated for sure.

If you buy the adapter for ac plugin it will be perfect for your couch and table setting. The battery lasts quite a while. Ask @MinnBobber he can help you with your purchase for the portable. The adapter, you will be subjected to buy it separately. MV has a water adapter I think to fit female pieces. Not sure about female joint adapters being made.

Actually you can't use it while it's sitting on the charger, in the manual it says specifically not to do this. But the battery lasts several hours and charges up fairly quick, so it's pretty much a non issue. You could always get 2 batteries so if one runs out you can grab the other one while charging the discharged one.

I realised after asking about using it when the battery is dead (if you don't have the other kit as well, which is an extra £40, just to be able to plug it in!) that as the battery lasts 3 hours it's never going to be a problem! It's going to go on the charger every night so... yeah :)

And can I just check again because, I almost don't believe it: with this, herbs really don't get 'cooked' like they do in something like the Pinnacle Pro, because the all-convection system is that good? :D

As in, don't turn it on when it's sat in the charging dock?

yup, that's correct.

keep in mind, if you get the other kit you will want to get an additional AC Charger with it if you want to use the puck and charge the battery at the same time (the AC Charger is not included when you buy the puck). I got the puck and then realized, oh yeah if I'm charging the battery I can't use the puck! But still on the rare occasion a battery charge doesn't last me through my night sessions, then I just switch to the puck to finish up, then charge the battery afterwards. Although I might buy an additional AC Charger one of these days...

What you are seeing here is the heater in the middle and the aluminum heat exchanger surrounding it.
The heater itself is enclosed in an aluminum sleeve.
IIRC the heater is a PTC heater:
http://www.makesafer.com/viewprod.asp?pid=214&cid=179

I think @JPB modded his and has taken it apart a long time ago...

Well, I surmised correctly. That's exactly what I thought. The heat exchanger has a honeycomb design which I believe is to allow airflow through. If you look at my picture closely you will see that the two sections that make up the heat exchanger separated from each other and one section from the heater element itself. I thought this may have been why my unit wasn't heating correctly, almost like only half the exchanger was heating correctly. I used a watch repair/eyeglass screw driver set to carefully move the gaped section so it touched the heating element hoping it was the culprit. Needless to say, since I'm in unit exchange mode, that wasn't the case.

Here's an after photo:

158776886.jpg

@lazylathe the line from the link you provided says it all:

1.3 Our PTC products are high reliable, long aging, but if they are assembled improperly, the end product may be loose, power or temperature may be instable.

@lazylathe so the exchanger is aluminum and not ceramic?
@stickstones It's not ceramic. That's why I asked earlier. It's malleable but brittle at the same time. Brittle probably from heat. When I did what I mentioned above I broke off several very fine small pieces. Definitely some metal.

1. already answered: cannot have mV powered up while in charger
2. is this a bublbler OR the Pinnacle Pro hydratube? I'll go with bubbler-
with stock parts, one uses a wire basket, add herb, add top screen, snap into the flexicone to make a "basket module" pictured below: this can snap into cover for direct vaoes.

mVbskt.jpg

Then, the magic is that you can convert to a bubbler in 3 seconds. You remove module, invert so wire basket is up, place in a 14 mm. Then, invert mVAP over the basket and enjoy. Pictures:

mVbskion.jpg

Invert miniVAP:
IonwmV.jpg

There numerous other methods to connect to a bubbler. Here's a MFLB water whip, tube with 14 mm glass adapter at the end: Note-this whip also offers a satisfying direct draw method with a long tube for cooling, a nice wood handhold, and a good mouth-feel glass "mouthpiece".
Many other water connect options too.

IonwMFLBwhip.jpg

Ratchett also makes a silicone adapter (Song) that you can hit straight draw, push a tube in for whip style, or invert directly into bubbler. 14 and 18 mm options. He has a specific thread for his goodies.
His is black unit, that snaps onto cover:

3. Internal glass:+
All of the miniVAPs up to now have had a PTFE or Teflon type liner which is supposed to be inert/
no off-gassing until temps well beyond the vape temps. The current build has been almost universally heralded as one of the best, if not THE best tasting vape out there. Hermes has some prototype glass chambered units out for testing and possibly has sold some (not sure??)

stickstones on this board has a glass model and is testing it. His initial opinion is that it does not taste as good as the original model BUT he needs more time/testing. He also wonders is there could be a problem with that glass model, something else impacting the taste... Glass also has different thermodynamic profile so it could be the glass does heat up more/ adds a conduction aspect that might neg impact the flavor. It's too early to tell and we all anxiously await more info from these beta tasters that have a glass model.

Glass is glass, so the current core has to be more resilient than a glass core. I have battery and AC puck and I've kicked the AC cord a few times / knocked the mV off the table and no problem whatsoever. With glass liner---not sure what kind of tumble it will survive.

Let us know if you have other questions there is a lot of miniVAP knowledge/experience on this thread

They've definitely sold them because I have one, not sure if I can be described as a 'tester' though, I just bought it!

I guess I like the tastelessness of aluminum, then!

BTW, taste is purely personal. We will disagree on which vapes taste best.

Thanks!

1. won't be a problem I think just putting it back on the charger from time to time and overnight.
2. heh, whoops, I guess I meant the PnP hydra tube. The one that sits on top of the mouthpiece adaptor that has the glass internal sleeve now. I'm not sure of the diameter it needs, but it seems like one of those top pieces you showed in the last photo would be about right.
3. i was planning to buy from vapefiend, which currently says on their store they have the 2015 model with improved heating and glass internals, so I just assumed that this model was out now. Has there been any other update?

New question, for bonus points!

4. Am i right in thinking that once you have your basket of herb in place it doesn't vaporise of it's own volition while you stare into space distracted by a bird outside the window that flew away about 5 minutes ago ;) but only when you draw - the 100% convection claim is that good, or near as you could hope for anyway?

Sid

Near as you can hope for, the basket does stay warm, but the herb doesn't seem to cook, but to be honest you don't have 10 minute sessions on the MV, it's much more a case of 4-5 draws per basket, it's amazing how much it hits you with so little herb, it's different to any other vape I've tried.

I'm pretty sure Vapefiend has the new units, buy from him with confidence he's great with customer service!

Wow, so I got the herbie whip with stainless steel mouthpiece hooked up and any hint of sour flavor I was complaining about before is gone...it must have been an effect of hot / dry vapor because this is a whole other level of cool, nice tasting clouds.

This way is just pure amazing taste without the need to drink 2 glasses of water while having a session. Super stoked!
