I use the tool provided with my Ascent vape....it's perfect for getting out that bottom smaller ring especially. The hook end grabs it then you can pull it up and out.

Used a spoon carefully and it worked a treat my man.

@Ethnobotanist, I've used the Rubberized Handle of a pair of pliers, and the Rubberized Handle of one of those magnetic Pick up tools, or any other Rubberized Handle of Any tool that will fit the inside diameter of the Teflon Chamber, this has Worked Like A Charm for me IME!!
Hope this Helps Ya out, HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAPPY VAPING EVERYONE :)

@Ethnobotanist

I heat my MV up a bit and then I can slide it out with my finger.
Comes out very easily!

Thanks everyone for the info. Should have a decarb chamber soon and will try all the suggestions systematically till I get the stock chamber out undamaged.

Looking forward to seeing if, aside from the reported extra clouds from the decarb chamber, whether it also makes the MV more efficient and economical with bud usage due to use of more effective conduction in addition to convection.

Edit- re: solid light issue on switch on
When turned on using the buttons if used previously the lights do just stay solid as if it's already warmed up. This is certainly the case with mine anyway when running on battery (not used the AC Adapter yet) - not sure of software version but it's less than 1 yr old. I usually just remove the battery after each use and twist it on every time I switch it back on to get round this.

.

I'd view this as the opposite effect. A metal decarb chamber would add some conduction effect BUT
conduction is less efficient/ less economical with bud as it cooks after you are done.
Pure convection is the most efficient--the miniVAP in its stock form.
Convection + conduction can extract goodies faster, but I'm in no hurry.

Interesting post. I can how how for many situations what you're saying might hold true. What about for my kind of use where I don't use the cap and have the basket fixed to the flexicone, attached to glass adapter. I usually take 1-2 hits, then remove the basket-flexicone-adapter combination and put it into a small glass jar till i want to hit the basket again. Shouldn't that negate the risk of it cooking between hits?

Yes, that should negate the cooking effect.
The decarb chamber will enable you to have bigger hits but the most efficient and best taste comes
from the stock unit as that also has designed in "laminar air flow" with the pure convection for best
possible taste. When you then introduce partial conduction, that impacts the laminar airflow which
is designed to perfectly/equally toast those tastey herbs to perfection.

Do you want bigger hits/quicker hits/max clouds or most efficient/ best taste ??

It's a big winner either way, just a slightly different focus

For any users that recently went through the replacement/warranty process.. And @Roger D.. What firmware did you guys have marked on your paperwork upon return of your units?

And +1 minnbobber

This vape has me fucked uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuppppP!

I love this thing! It has a unique vape signature that I can only describe as STRONG.

You know what I appreciate now more than ever? Silence! This vape is silent. My other 'top tier' vapes make noise. But not this thing. It's quiet. :)

I can barely type. This post has taken me forever to craft. :smug:

Hey guys, I have had my MiniVap for ~5 months now (with a couple glass attachments and a H20 [vapor brothers]stopper as the connecting piece. Connects to all 18mm joints air tight :)

Anyway, I wanted to know what you guys thought about the Teflon coating in the bowl, funnel part of the bowl, and the piece that has an integrated screen and connects to the twist removable small top part. Teflon will now be illegal to use in cooking pans as of 2015 (in the US) as it breaks down at much lower temperatures than it was designed to and has cancerous gasses (potentially). Also, if we were to scratch the surface of any of these parts, the rest of the coating is compromised and thus degrades from that point on.

Link with reference temps (at bottom): http://www.mindfully.org/Plastic/Teflon/Canary-Teflon-ToxicosisAug03.htm

My concern has three separate parts:
1. During normal usage on the two highest temperature settings, the heat generated is sufficient to produce toxic gas (I know its not sustained for longer than 10 seconds) according to the link i posted.
2. If someone were to (as i have) turn tweezers inside out to make removing the bowl easier and accidentally scratch the surface of the teflon. Recent tests have shown a compromised teflon pan will basically just dump its chemical contents into food and other contacted materials (it apparently can be absorbed through skin as well)
3. The new Decarb attachment is not teflon, which is mainly why I'm interested in it, but having it hold and sustain heat so close to the upper Teflon funnel part makes me nervous.

How can we test the temperature part at least:
1. Anyone with a inferred temperature detector take a bunch of long draws and measure the temperature of all 3 of these components I mentioned. If we can get some data together with temperature readings just moments after their hottest point, we can rule out the possibility of harmful [stuff]. Does anyone have the capability to do this?

Notes:
1. I AM IN NO WAY SAYING THAT THE MINIVAP IS DANGEROUS OR EVEN POTENTIALLY SO. I am just questioning one the materials within and if it is subjected to what we now know is harmful.
2. All Minivan owners regardless of the temperatures need to ensure that they do not compromise this coating in any way, that means no scratches or anything.

This was not meant to be a fear inducing post, but we should collectively investigate this.

I got my replacement! Looks good. I'm excited.

Does this thing have some kind of "burn off" period of time before use? cleaning of silicone or plastic mouthpiece with iso before use?

@Kommyknocker : where is the firmware indicated in the manual? I'm not seeing it and it's the only documentation that came with it.

The unit should not need a burn off.. And the firmware wasn't listed in the sparse manual.. It was in the delivery note I got when I got a replacement unit for a gnarly one.. Can't remember off hand what mines was.. 2.something I believe.

Note. I received my second replacement directly from Hermes.. First one was a swap over from the online store I purchased from. No firmware mentioned on the paperwork on that switch.

Gondee,
so you're using the hard plastic cone with built in screen? The Teflon cone?

I find that cone to be very limited compared to the super versatile silicone flexicone. The only advantage of the hard plastic cone is that it has a built in screen BUT you cannot snap a wire basket into it to make a "wire basket module" like with the flexicone . After discovering that a screen can snap into the flexicone to keep herb from the mouthpiece----never ever used the hard cone again!!!

With the module you can switch from direct hits to water bubbler in 3 seconds. First I said 5 seconds but it's really 3 seconds :)

Picture of basket in a Mobius Ion bubbler

Picture of bubbler with miniVAP in "desktop" mode with AC plug. I've just started using this as my go-to configuration. Cold outside so no need to wander out on the deck to vape!
Incredible desktop performer!!

I don't believe your Teflon cone gets extremely hot??? I take big pulls on red temp and immediately lift the miniVAP and feel the wirebasket (for quality control...) and it's hot but not super hot

Cool, good to know, so just charge and use huh? Sweeet.

The manual is all I got, no additional note or invoice with additional specs. Sorry!

There are no Teflon coatings on the MV. To be precise theses parts with Teflon are solid pieces of pure Teflon, it's really not the same thing as the stuff you see on pans.

Teflon pans are crap, it's like some kind of weak paint, not really pure Teflon, it's full of additives to make it sprayable. I use stainless steel pans for all purpose cooking, a steel pan for high temperature meat cooking and a ceramic coated pan for eggs.

Ps : I have no idea about the exact version of my firmware.

Wish I could help, but my Vapornation exchange did not include any info. regarding firmware.

If your worried or even if you want your unit checked out, at least you are on the right side of the pond, so don't hesitate if your thinking about sending it back. Have them check it out, update it and even have the conversation of customizing your temperatures if that idea is running through your mind.

Edit: I used part of my reward points at vapornation and got the EVO mouthpiece free...just had to pay shipping.

Hello Team,

I've been lurking on this site for some months, having read through so many of these posts. I really dig the FC community - so much knowledge contained within these pages.

What are the chances of Hermes offering discount codes for the Minivap during the January sales? I can't justify buying one for myself when I should really be buying all the ungrateful jerks in my family gifts for Christmas. That said, the 'crazy weekend 20% Off' discount Roger D posted a few pages pack expires tonight, so I'd probably resent the people I bought gifts for if this is the last discount being offered for the foreseeable.

Good plan my man.
I'll look into that.. My plus button has begun the occasional sticking, which just continues to cycle quickly through the temps.
I'll look out my paperwork from Hermes and report back.

@JJ Cool F
There is every chance there'll be more 'sales' as it appears the people at MV HQ are finally understanding the price point being so very damned restrictive isn't helping sales in this market that's cornered by cheaper though far less effective models.

@Kommyknocker

I'm totally with you on the price point, although from the 100+ pages of testimonials on this thread, it seems to be worth the punt. I was hoping someone would say the January Sales discount code is a regular thing for Hermes...

The capitalist pig in me is hoping the release of the Mighty/Crafty/Arizer Air might encourage Hermes to drop the price a little.

They had a significant price drop earlier this year, so I wouldn't expect it to come down again any time soon except for one-off sales like that.
