RBT is in the process of updating the Milaana.

Given that much of Milaana's identity is in the guitar pick and matching logo embossed copper this feature will remain. What will change?

The wooden bottom will be eliminated and a recessed rectangular bottom plate will cover the electronics compartment. The plate will have an embossed logo similar to that of the copper battery hatch. In the center of the three triangles a screw with a triangular drive will fasten the plate to the unit. This will reduce the overall height if the unit by 1/4".

The spring metal battery contact (down in the hole) will be replaced by a plunger contact similar to what is used in many e-cig mods. This will reduce the amount of failures due to the current spring contact that can be compressed if dropped which has caused the battery to loose contact with the cooper battery hatch in the past.

The heater will be now mounted on a ceramic deck that will be mounted into the bottom of the heater cavity. This will reduce the risk of the wood on the bottom from being over heated and will reduce the complexity of the assembly process.

The mica used in the currently will be replaced by ceramic as was done in the Splinter V2 and Splinter Z V1. This will have no impact on performance but could arguably will improve purity by some.

The length and width of the unit will be increased by 1/16" to improve robustness and make way for a larger diameter female glass if needed and any profile change that might be made.

The mouthpiece will be changed to 19/19 similar to the Splinters.

What else could be done to improve the design?

The copper battery hatch and metal bottom plate could be changed to brass to change the look of the unit.
The profile of the wood could be changed. Milaana 1 has a large radius on the battery side.
The button could be replaced with a lower profile and/or an LED could be added that could be turned on and off depending on the battery orientation.

Please give your thoughts on these or other changes that could be made.

I have thoughts on how the carb hole could be modified to promote more even avb without hot spots.

Hmmm.

1:

I wouldn't go bigger. The size of the 2 is slightly more convenient than the '1.5,' so keeping things that size (or smaller) should be a priority. Pocketability is key, and the 2 is nicely pocketable. I pull the stem, throw an arizer air stem cap on it, stick it in my coin pocket while I drop the 2 into my front pocket and voila I'm covered. The '1.5' is slightly less pocketable. I wouldn't buy a third Mi if it got bigger. Smaller options seem to be the trend, no?

2:

When I started using the Mi with version '1.5,' I went to the DDave reducer. The 18mm required me to use too much material (I was a kid then). The 14mm was the right sized stem. But it was less convenient than the go 18mm, which I use exclusively now (I'm all grown up).

That being said, a design that allowed for both an 18mm-ish stem as well as a 14mm-ish stem that didn't require an extra adapter piece would be a definite upgrade. More options, more fans.

3. The air inlet on the Mi 2 isn't in the best spot. It's too easy to cover it up without knowing it while you're gripping and ripping.

4.

Lose the guitar pic. It's gimmicky. It gets in the way.

Thanks!

The loading chamber of the stems need to be improved. Using double screens to prevent the load from falling out of the stem onto the heater screen has a negative impact on the vapor quality and ease of use. Since convection vaporizers require a much looser load pack than conduction, once the load is stirred it has to be more loose or the extraction gets very spotty. Need a stem that pulls the heat from inside to outside or vice versa rather than bottom to top. I think this would completely eliminate the need for stirring, hot spots, and uneven extraction while keeping the load from falling out of the load chamber. Anyway just my opinion since I sure ain't no engineer.

Great feedback!

Agreed and thanks for the reminder. It is pretty crazy how the small reduction in size from 1.5 to to makes a big difference in your hand. The driver for the width is the is the rim of the female glass so I will work to keep that small and only add enough wood to make it robust. The design will eliminate the bottom cap so height will be reduced and I might be able to squeeze out a little more.

An easy solution to allow for 18 mm and "14 mm" would be to simply make the glass thicker and thereby reducing the size. Another would be to offer basket screens of different depths - micro - medium - mega lol.

The air inlet is in it's location to allow for a carb but do agree it is in a place where your fingers naturally fall when holding it. One solution would be to add inlets to the side of the unit such that you can carb the front hole only the ones on the sides are active thereby allowing a controlled reduction in flow by fully blocking the front inlet and if blocked by accident the sides would be open. I have also thought that if they where blockable or variable that could be a benefit but don't believe the added cost would justify.

This is just a minor facelift to Mi and will probably be the last spin rev. The guitar pick is in large part the identity of the Mi and rather than think of it getting in the way think of it as a place to hang it off your hand lol. This also promotes it being put back in place before putting it into your pocket for safety reasons. We are working on a fully integrated unit (thread coming soon) that will def not have a guitar pick.

Regulation will be added to the fully integrated design in which we are collecting desired outcomes in another thread.

Thanks all for brain storming!

Ryan,

One thing I have always done is use the guitar pick to hold the lip of my stem. I have even made my own pick and carved a little curve on the side of the pick to better hold the stem into the unit. My guitar pick has since broke but it was a useful feature.
Your revised design of the XL8R stems with the more flattened spikes is an amazing improvement.

I look forward to working with you or OtherSide on a custom unit. Keep killing it Ryan!

Ah, I think I might have seen someone else do this in the past so it seems like a value to do. So, basically scallop out the pick such that when rotated in acts as as "keg clip" to prevent lipstick (a mouthpiece getting pulled out by being stuck to a lip and then falls to the floor).

At this time given that US manufacturing is coming to a close, we don't do any custom stuff... but I believe Simrelle Collection will be doing some custom mouthpieces. Please check out the SEED thread when you have time.

Lipstick is a perfect description for it. It has cost me or the wife three stems. I have never seen it referenced before so I wasn't sure if we're just clutzy. Literally the day I got my tubo in the mail I got lipstick on my short stem and broke it. Sooo much sadness.

Love the look and apparent pocketability of the Mi/2 so glad to hear those wont change. Given the production push it might even become more than just a myth that pops up on vgoodiez or entexchange occasionally. I missed the xmas time closeout sale by days and since then I'm like wile coyote for this thing lol. Love my splinterZ so I'll survive.

In my humble opinion, to bring regulated control to the Milaana3 is totally unnecessary. One of the great things about the Milaana's is how easy it is to get the draw that you like. Either large clouds or lighter more flavorful ones, and there is nothing to change but draw speed and heat time. I have mentioned maybe a better way to load and contain the material, but definitely not pods. I believe the biggest concern for most Milaana users is how often the battery needs to be changed. Why not use a 20700/21700 battery which would increase the run time per battery and also allow the heater to function better. It would require some modification but would definitely make the Milaana3 a totally different beast rather than just a more domesticated one.

@CL52613 Milaana will continue to be an unregulated device with a guitar pick hatch as that IS Milaana (means to modulate in Hindi) The first RBT regulated integrated device will be the Sprout... until then Splinter is the regulated solution. The 20700/21700 are larger and would make the unit size larger. They also only have about 20% (maybe one more load) more power and are nearly twice as expensive. This and knowing that current users already have a collection of 18650s kept the 18650 as the power plant on Mi3.

We are currently working through the design of a more robust spring loaded contact and ceramic heater. Options are being explored for a low profile button and wood and metal choices. Once all parts are selected the design of the wood can be finalized and then parts can be ordered for a pilot production run. If things go to plan the Mi3 should drop in 3-4 months.

Thanks to everyone that helped contribute to the ideas to improve the Mi3 to make it the best it can be given the time/cost constraints of the Mi3.

Ahhhh, well that explains it than. Love your designs and the continuing refinements. Milaana2 and Splinters, in my humble opinion, are the finest performing vaporizers I have ever used. Finally do not have to combust to achieve the same results. So, what the heck can we do about keeping debri from falling onto the screen in the heating chamber and eliminating the need to stir to get even and thorough extraction? I know that sandwiching the load between two screens is one way to eliminate falling debri, but it is does require more power to achieve extraction and is a catch-22 of sorts. Anyway, maybe just my pet peeve, so hoping you continued success in life and business my inventive friend.

Hey folks... Mi3 is being put on the back burner for now... Seed is now fist seed and Mi3 will happen as resources free up. Mi3 is a bit more complex of a development than the Seed and it's market potential is smaller so it will be near the end of the year before it is ready. Thanks for all the great feedback... See ya after the Seed is planted :)

I couldn't disagree more. The Milaana is not about portability it's about the best vapor. Pocketability should always take a back seat to build quality and vapor quality even if it means the milaana 3 is bigger than the miliaana 2.

If you want portability get an argo or fury.

Don't hate, but some sort of regulation, not necessarily a screen and changeable heat settings, but just a way of ensuring that it hits the same regardless of battery level.

So make it like every other vape out there?

The Mi2 is a great vape, but would be helped greatly by having two changes: 1) The pivot point for the battery door is on the wrong side, at least if you are right-handed. If right-handed and the pick is swung out, you are not able to lie the Mi2 down without rotating it which is awkward. 2) A battery gauge or even a tricolor LED (Green/Yellow/Red) would help greatly. Even if it was a a simple Green/Red LED that shows battery has fallen below a set voltage would be helpful.

There's a difference between portability and "pocket ability" as you suggested.

Portable as in...not attached to a wall. Not portable as in throw it in your shirt pocket.

To each their own obviously but I got my Milaana2 for pocket-ability. I love that I can slip into my front pocket. Although the Mi3 is being shelved at the moment, size would also be an important factor for me.

I use my splinter at home when I don't mind the bulk of the mod. Both are absolutely great but the Milaana seems to fill the gap in the lineup when it comes to size as compared to the splinter.

Is there a thread already started for the Seed? If there is a regulated device coming out, I will most likely get it. This all said, the US manufacturing for me was a bit of a draw but if performance is strong, that's something that can be overlooked. I personally like supporting domestic (Canada included) artisans. The RBT heater is phenomenal..only Tubo's heater can compare IMO.
