Mainstream opinion on vaporization

Good point about the pax, not exactly odor free but much better than combustion! I think that as vaping becomes more common, more people will become accepting of both mj and tobacco use.

I hoping here in Washington state I see more vapes at the shops selling cannabis supplies (Headshops). So often I just see a few of the older model vapes and often they are out of a lot of their supply. I still see a lot of supplies for smoking cannabis. There are a lot of ecig vapor stores, they are selling ecig stuff. I see vaping oil pens at the mmj disp.

At the new recreation stores we should see vaporizers being available to buy, I would think.

Times are changing and this community on FC is just the beginning.

Yes, after 40 plus years of use I stumbled into someone who took the time to explain and demo vaping. It was a real eye opener. I have since then had several sessions with rookies. (gotta pass it forward)
We are all in our own circles, so we don't hear what is going on outside of said same.

I am just like you. Like my tech. and my MJ.

What made me smile is the comment about your wife complaining on the amount of time. My wife never particularly liked me puttin' down j's but she tolerated it. She rarely complained on how much time I spent on it. Now that I'm vaping with all the cleaning and loading she makes a smart remark here and there.

I bought an easy vape years ago when I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something.

I recently invested some bucks in some newer tech. including some portable units. The portability is what kept me on j's for years after the easy vape.

Now I am combustion free!

When my Pax crapped out I was forced to go back to the j for a minute and all I can say is gross! I used to smoke cigarettes years ago and it reminded me of that taste. Until I went combustion free I never noticed it.

Besides the obvious health benefits I especially appreciate the discretion that comes along with portable vaping. I never liked that my car and clothes stunk to high hell after combusting. The low smell alone was enough for me to switch full time and guess what, my wife appreciates it too.

Ok then. ...just stumbled onto this thread and thought we had something in common. Thanks for listening....

You're right -- we do all have something in common: that geek love of tech touching anything else in our lives. I'm missing the "wife" part, but otherwise, same same here. The only thing better than marijuana is getting toasted off of unburnt marijuana, and one of the only few things better than THAT is having my "usage" system be electronic and all gadgety! I stumbled into vaping last year, and once I'd tasted that lovely sweet unburnt vaping essence, and dropped a wad on pens n batteries and globes and things to use in them, I was hooked. When I got a Volcano for Christmas, there was no turning back.

Reclaim alone is worth it. The Volcano produces enough ABV to feed me three medible doses a day, and it's made a diff in my rx levels... fewer opiates! The oil in my Solo stem is better than any oil I've ever tried making, and I've made some really good oil, thank you YouTube professors... If all vaping offered me was the chance to reclaim oil from daily usage, that would be enough. But when you add on the health benefits, the clean feeling that vaping offers, the chance to use and reuse my stash four or five times in different ways, the medibles I get to add to my diet now that I'm not burning my bud to bits, AND all the gadgets I could possibly want to spend every penny of my disposable income on? Who could pass on that? Life is too sweet to POSSIBLY pass on that...

Just picked up this news about regs on vaporizers in the Cannabist (Denver Post):

The great vape debate: Public use of vaporizers, e-cigs a hot topic
Vaporizers and electronic cigarettes, which have experienced an explosive growth in popularity in the last few years, are beginning to face stiff resistance in Colorado as an increasing number of communities crack down on the battery-powered devices.
http://www.thecannabist.co/2014/07/22/vaping-in-public-vape-debate-e-cigs-vaporizers/16677/
This was the part that really caught my attention:

With the legalization of marijuana in Colorado in 2012 and the rise of vaping in the state, he said a “perfect storm” has been created for the covert consumption of drugs. Golden Police Chief Bill Kilpatrick warned the City Council about the issue last month during a study session on a potential downtown smoke-free zone.
“You can vaporize cocaine, you can vaporize marijuana, you can vaporize methamphetamine,” he told them. “You do not know what’s in those vaporizers.”

HAHA - so the real issue is not whether vaper affects public health or safety, it's not about increasing the numbers of cigarette smokers, it's about.....that someone might be having fun and no one gets to know (so to possibly deny them it)!

Gotta love the Puritans.

I'm the first of my friends to convert to vaping- and I should use the word "convert" loosely, as I still combust quite a bit. I'm 44 years old and have been using MJ since I was 15. To me the Achilles heel is going to be the devices themselves. I am continually being frustrated by the technology. They are expensive and do not last forever. You have to maintain them. Batteries die on the portable units and electronics fail on the plug in units. A pack of rolling papers is less than $2 and they work every time. I'm an outdoorsman and enjoy using when I am enjoying the outdoors as it is my escape time. So portable units are really all I am interested in. That one day when I found myself in the backcountry and my vape wouldn't heat up really changed things for me.

When the technology gets good enough that they are 100% reliable, then I would be more than happy to never combust again. Everything about vaporizing is superior- the taste, the effects, no lingering smoke/smell- everything except the reliability. So in the backcountry I will still be smoking joints.

Hey @Jethro How about When in the "Backcountry" try using a flame/butane powered vape like The Hammer, VaporGenie, Vapeman or lotus and you'll have no excuse to keep smoking them joints.

:peace:...

I have considered that, but it reminds me of years and years ago when we made the light bulb vapes. I need to get over it- I like the VaporGenie actually.

Yeah things have progressed a bit since Eagle bills shake'n'vape or a homemade lightbulb vape, a good number of non-electrical dependent vaporizers to chose from nowadays for going off grid.

IMHO The Hammer rivals any battery powered vape i own or have used performance wise, and really isn't that shabby compared to many home/desktop units either. I've only heard good things about the vapman and lotus, haven't tried either myself.
I'm a firm believer that all vaporists should own at least one vaporgenie and have a couple of bics at hand for the impending zombie apocalypse.

With a metal-stemmed lotus, a reliable torch lighter, and a can of butane and you could last as long as your stash does out in the woods. Probably should have a back-up lighter as well though.

From the cannabist article: “You can vaporize cocaine, you can vaporize marijuana, you can vaporize methamphetamine,” he told them. “You do not know what’s in those vaporizers.”

By this logic we should outlaw pills, because “you do not know what’s in those [pills]”

Or houses. Because you don't know what people do in those houses.

Ugggh, i remember all those growing-up days stuck inside the 3 bedroom ranch during harsh Wisconsin winter, every window closed and mom and dad chain smoking. The blue swirls of 2 packs a day effectively trapped inside for us kids to breathe and get dizzy and headachy on. Never could open a window because it would send a "cold draft" on my mom's neck. God, I hated the constant humming sound of the football games that, with the smoke, enveloped my body. It invoked the low level but annoying nausea of car-sickness, except we weren't moving. I never want to go back there again.

I think if more folks vaporized, cannabis would be more acceptable. The fact that smoking it smells so bad when you're around others that don't need to use it.

I agree, vapor is much less offensive than smoke to non users. The thing is, large recent clinical studies have not found a connection between smoking cannabis and cancer. In fact, in some studies even long term heavy smokers (only those that didn't smoke tobacco were included in the study) did not have an increased risk of cancer. In some cases cannabis smokers had less risk than the population as a whole. So it seems that although combusted cannabis certainly contains numerous carcinogens; the protective anti cancer agents contained in pot counteract the cancer causing agents in some way.

Now, does that mean that smoking weed is totally benign to the body? Not at all, long term heavy cannabis smoking is associated with an increased risk of COPD...mainly chronic bronchitis...

That said, most of the under 30 demographic typically doesn't see the potential negatives with smoking cannabis. To me, the potential to get COPD from combustion along with a nasty cough with flem is enough to favour vaporization over combustion, even if weed doesn't cause cancer.

I must say, I notice more people using vaporisers all the time. Hopefully, this trend will continue and canabis vaporization will become become mainstream and more acceptable to the general public.

I grew up with a dad that smoked 2 pack a day Winston cigarettes. In the house in the middle of the winter smoking, never stepped outside. He would smoke in the car with the window cracked a little. He had COPD (emphysema) is what they called it. He had some holes in his lungs. He eventually quit when he was 68. He lived to be 78. Fought for every breath in his last few months. He was an alcoholic until he was 55.

He was very abusive to his body. He was verbally abusive to everyone in the family, mean as fuck. Always nice as pie in public. Everybody thought what a nice guy.

The best smoke shop around me has a lot of vaporizers, however, they are all significantly overpriced compared to what you can find online. They wanted around $300 for a solo and didn't even have the charger for it "ill have to order it". Im willing to bet that some people that are interested in vaporizing go check them out at a store and get turned off by the prices, which like i said around here are marked up by...what?....like 100%

They were selling a Solo for $300.00, without the stock charger? Charging extra for it? If so, that's whacked.

i asked for a price knowing what i could get it for online and they couldn't find the price on their computer. so the owner said "your probably looking at around 300 but i would have to get a charger first". so that price included the charger. My friend also noticed a price on their g pen which was 140 and he said he saw it for 70 online. for non-vaporizer things the place is great......

Hmm, I think he must have cross-dressed and posed as my mom for my growing up years. Two-faced as one could get, seriously.

Winstons, until she started with those "More" mini cigar things.

It's no wonder I have asthma, really.
