My MB machine came about a month ago and I made a batch of coconut oil with 1 oz of mixed mid-grade buds to 14 oz. of oil. It came out nicely but it took a bit more than a teaspoon of oil for a decent medicated effect and the effect wasn't quite what I had hoped.
My girlfriend has a lot of wrist pain from surgery and needed something she could take and still function well at work. I decided to make her some Candy Jack coconut oil.
Candy Jack is one of her favorites and for good reason. Our local dispensary has theirs tested at 27% THC and .2% CBD! It's top shelf bud usually priced at $220/oz (and well worth it), but they were running a sale for $170/oz so it was a no brainer to go with 2 oz.
Once I got it home, I decided to use just a little less than 2 oz in 2 cups of coconut oil to make the math work out a bit cleaner.
Each 1 teaspoon dose contains:
.5 gm of cannabis
.135 mg of THC
Ingredients:
16 oz Coconut Oil
48 gm Candy Jack - Sativa 80% (Tested: THC 27% - CBD 0.2%)
Concentration:
3 gm per oz of oil
.5 gm per teaspoon of oil
Process:
1. Decarb unground cannabis in foil packet in oven at 240 for 45 minutes
2. Put 16 oz jar of coconut oil in MB machine and heat on 160 for ~10 minutes to melt oil.
3. Pour melted oil into measuring cup for exact measure to 16 oz...then pour back into MB. This wouldn't seem necessary with a 16 oz jar of coconut oil but it is. My "16 oz jar" measured only 14 liquid oz in the measuring cup.
4. Put decarbed Candy Jack in MB machine along with melted oil and run a 1 hour cycle at 220.
5. At the end of first cycle, reset machine and run another cycle at 160 for 4 hours.
6. Strain and enjoy!
This oil came out much stronger than the first batch and 1 teaspoon of the Candy Jack Oil is a pretty strong dose, even for someone with a 1.3gm/day tolerance. It is exceptionally clean and retains that sweet Candy Jack taste, which happens to go very well with coconut oil.
That Candy Jack taste also goes well with hot beverages like coffee, hot cocoa or chai. I make it for my girlfriend with about 6 oz of soy milk and 2 tablespoons of hot cocoa mix.
I heat the soy milk on the stove until warm. Then I put it in the blender with a teaspoon of Candy Jack Oil and 2 tablespoons of hot cocoa and blend for 15-20 seconds. That gives it a foamy "crema" on top and completely homogenizes the medicated oil in the hot beverage.
I've made this and let it cool in the refrigerator for up to several hours so far and it has never separated. I put it in a little 8 oz glass bottle for my girlfriend and she grabs it when she's in pain. She says it always starts to give relief in 10-15 minutes.
I've been working with cannabis oil dosing in hot drinks like this for a month or so now. IMO it's one of the easiest and tastiest ways to tailor your dose accurately every time with minimal hassle and a lot of flavor flexibility. Plus you get that healthy dose of coconut oil every time!
