Looking for a new portable, thinking of the Arizer Air 2

I have a Pax I haven't used in years, it's the original one that had the issue where you need to hold the mouthpiece exactly right for it to stay on unless it was absolutely clean. And I see the new Pax 3 basically uses the power button as a mouthpiece, not the best design during a pandemic.

I had been happy vaping just at home with my Volcano Digit but I spend a lot more time outside lately so I want a new portable, after looking through most models, I think I'm decided on the Arizer Air 2. I did have the Solo before the Pax and it was very reliable but I found the bowl size too small but at that time it was my main vape, for a portable I think it will be fine especially as I can bring multiple prepacked stems to increase capacity while not having to mess with reloading on the go.

What I want in a portable vape:
-Small size
-Can be carried preloaded, I don't want to have to mess with loading a chamber on the go
-Fairly large chamber size or the ability to preload and carry multiple chambers/stems
-Not too expensive, around $150

With this in mind the Arizer Air 2 seems like the best choice, while having to carry stems is an inconvenience, it has the benefit of allowing me to bring multiple preloaded ones, come to think of it, it probably also eliminates the need for stiring compared to a single large chamber and not having to stir is something I want in a portable so I really like the idea of bringing multiple preloaded stems over having a single large chamber that needs frequent stirring like I found to be the case with the Pax.

Thanks for any suggestions

I will start by saying that while the Pax OG was in my top three LEAST favorite vapes I have ever owned, I got a Pax 3 a couple of years ago and it is one of my most used vapes and if I lost/broke it, I would replace asap.
They made Huge improvements in taste and maintenance Since the OG.

With that in mind - you should also consider the Fury 2 / Fury Edge (get the Edge caps and you can preload and drop in whenever you want.)
I am blanking in other small vapes that you can preload (with back ups ready to go) at the moment, but maybe others will chime in before I remember!

What are the improvements from the first Pax to the 3? I find it a bit pricey and normally avoid anything that doesn't have a removable battery like the plague. One of my main issues was that it needs stirring with the large oven and it was a pain to carry a tiny stirring tool, I would at the absolute minimum want it to have a built in stirring tool unless it somehow no longer needs stirring at all.

I never stir mine and AVB comes out a dark brown puck - very even and well extracted. I got a pax pusher accessory to make the oven smaller and it works well. Although there are still other vapes that are more efficient with your herbs.

The improvements (from my poor memory) include the mouthpiece is no longer some clunky nightmare that clogs up and stops working. Just lift off and clean it. Nothing to get clogged up or stuck anymore.
The flavor on the OG was AWFUL (I remember it being almost fish-like in taste :puke:) while the P3 has nice, dense flavor (IMO).
The battery lasts a surprisingly long time for it’s size - they have done a good job with keeping it in standby mode until you bring it back to your lips.

I rarely use my Arizer Air. It always feels like work to get good hits (Lack of airflow). Plus, tough to pocket it with the glass stems. But that is just my opinion.

There are a lot of decent inexpensive vapes out there now - although like I said, I can’t think of any small ones that you can easily switch out a new load other than Fury (although I feel like I am def missing some).

The v-leaf go, is a great on demand pen style vape (but it has a short battery life and runs pretty hot without water and has a small oven) at under $80.
The Flowermate Cap is also a cheap way to go - similar form factor to pax but without the bells and whistles. (It is same vape under several names including G-Pen Dash (also under $80)

But again, I go back to the Fury 2 or Edge - either one checks most of the boxes you mentioned (With the add on capsules).

I'm still leaning towards the Arizer Air 2, I heard they improved the airflow on the Arizer Air 2 compared to the original.

I remembered the Pax also has that long internal tube that needs cleaning, the 3 must be the same in this regards right?

As for the Fury, I'm not familiar with the company and unless I'm mistaken with another one I think I heard it's not the most reliable and reliability is about my #1 priority as I don't have time to waste returning products for repairs. From having an Arizer Solo and having heard of the Air 2, I know it will be extremely reliable.

Unless someone recommends another one I still think the Air 2 is what I'll get, I may buy as soon as tonight, and I started shopping for a portable less than 24 hours ago when I was going to order more bags for my Volcano and realized it's time I get a proper portable to replace my Pax I never use.

Fury is as reliable as you can get! The company Healthy Rips is extremely customer service focused.
And there have been very, very few issues reported on both threads (fury 2 and Edge).

But, Arizer is also very reliable and if you feel comfortable with getting the Air, then by all means, go for it!!

I've looked at so many vapes I can't remember which features go with which, but there's one the video review said like "So you press the button once for this feature, twice for this feature, three times for this feature, 4 times for this feature, and 5 times for this feature, couldn't be simpler"... I was like really? I don't see how it could be more complicated, I would at least hope there's a chart printed on the device telling you all this, but is the Fury the one that works like this? I wouldn't like that at all, I'd much rather have 2-3 buttons than have to spend hours studying "morse code" to operate my vape. And some need 5 clicks to turn them on, really? That's an automatic "no buy" for me, I can't imagine the amount of returns they must get from people thinking it's broken because it won't turn on like any other device on the market and they haven't read the instructions.

Even having to hold 2 buttons at once to turn on the Air 2 is the biggest "button inconvenience" I'm willing to accept.

I just heard the Fury holds about 0.1 g, I believe I heard the Air 2 holds closer to 0.2, is this about right? I already find the chamber small on the Air 2 so if the Fury is smaller than that's another plus for the Air 2, which also seems easier to clean after watching a Fury review video.

Yeah, the Fur(ies) only hold about .1 g. But again, if you use the caps (which actually hold a little less), it is super easy/fast to switch out to another capsule.
If you use a glass stem, they basically require the same (minimal) amount of maintenance as the Air. If using the native mouthpiece, it takes a little more effort, but still far less than many vapes.

But I feel like you have already made your decision - just go for it and pull the trigger on the Air!

What's the rush? Do your research to make a good decision. There may be July 4th sales. My votes for the Fury Edge. Ticks all your boxes.

I'd like to have one ASAP to enjoy during summer as I don't see myself using it much if at all in winter when I don't spend much time outside so every day I wait is one less day I get to use it and there's a good discount on the Air 2 ending soon I believe.

I should have mentioned precise temp control vs 3 or 4 presets is also almost a must for me, but I think one of the Furys has that but still harder to clean, and I don't think the battery is replaceable. I must admit I've always liked things that are a simple cylinder shape so that also makes me like the Air 2 more but even just feature wise I think I prefer it mostly for easy cleaning and the replaceable battery.

I'm still open to hearing of other models I may not have looked into yet.

All the healthy rips models have full digital temp control, also the company's extremely customer service oriented, I wouldn't worry about batteries and especially with the price and support... But also and this is the biggest factor, these vapes are all more powerful than an air, so maybe an Air can hold more weed but it's going to be less efficient overall... If you really want to go all out on power, efficiency, taste, wide range simplicity, with replaceable batteries and variable load sizes among other things, check out the tinymight for starters!

After reviewing portable models over many many hours I finally decided to order the Arizer Air 2.

My main issue with the Fury is the non replaceable battery, I don't know why you say not to worry about batteries, they are consumable and have a limited life, making those devices essentially disposable. I'm looking for a vape that can last 10+ years, the Fury would be a paper weight in 1-3 years from a dead battery, even if the company can replace it, it's a hassle having to ship it back just to replace the battery.

I really like the shape and simplicity of the Air 2 and the ability to bring multiple "glass vapor joints" is a big plus, I know the Fury has capsules, but the fact you also get a mouthpiece with each stem with the Air 2 can come in handy for hygienic reasons if I'm with others and so each person has their own load considering the small size, this basically enables it to be used by as many people as you have stems without dividing the load between everyone.

Thanks for everyone's input even though it didn't change my choice, I had already looked at most models before posting and was wondering if I hadn't missed any, I had, but they didn't have all I was looking for.

I may still get a 2nd portable at a later time, and I'm definitively getting rid of my Pax, I think it's non replaceable battery would barely last a few minutes after 10 years and it was always a pain to use with having to hold the mouthpiece exactly right 100% of the time while always looking at its light to make sure you're still holding the mouthpiece right.

If the idea here is that you would pass the vape to a friend and they would take a puff off their own stem, you would have been much better off with a convection model like the Fury. The Arizer portables are conduction centric and a lot of their performance comes from the glass stem being thoroughly heat soaked. I can't imagine it working very well switching between multiple stems based on my expience with the original Air. This is a vape that sees huge performance differences based on whether or not the stem is inserted while the device heats up.

Good luck and enjoy, if I had to rely on an arizer air for 10 years I would likely have to just give up vaping lol (it's too weak)

I intend to use it by myself 99% of the time, so this would just be a bonus and I realize having to heat each stem would be an issue but probably still doable the rare times I may want to do this.

I've been vaping for almost 20 years and have a Volcano Digit as my main vape so don't worry about me quitting. I would only keep the Arizer Air 10 years if I'm happy with it, I may have replaced it in a few months if I end up not liking it. Having had a Solo that I found the loads much too small this is my main concern with the Air 2 but having multiple stems you can preload and cap should solve this. Also when I had the Solo it was my main vape and as a main vape it is too weak, I've now gone back to a Volcano for my main vape.

I've read lots of the Air 2 thread and watched review videos and think I'll be happy, if not I'll spend more time shopping for my next one but this was the one with most of the features I wanted so I would have to sacrifice something if I decide to switch, unless something new comes out by then.

Yeah so, the air chamber size is not that small, it is just weak and inefficient... So if you got a portable that had more pure convection, it would hit harder even with a smaller amount, more similar to your volcano... But to each their own of course!

I understand what you mean, I am likely to continue looking at portables especially if I find the Air 2 too weak. Are there portables that use convection and have a removable battery?

In the worst case if I find the Air 2 weak and can't find a better one with a replaceable battery, I may consider getting one with a built in battery but I wouldn't be willing to pay a very high price for a "disposable vaporizer".

I avoid anything without a replaceable battery like the plague as I don't want to encourage or support companies that make such products that are basically designed to turn into a useless paper weight in a matter of years.

Imagine if they sold them pre-loaded with herb and you had to buy a new vape each time you finish vaping the herb.

I know you're not alone but we're in a small market that has limited options, if you want to spend less on a vape often times it will not have a replaceable battery, that is where we recommend the fury edge, it's price point is competitive and the battery is still very good and modern and the company is so good with the customer service that is why I wouldn't worry that much... Meanwhile vivant vleafgo is very much so a disposable vape because it is a third of the price... The Furies are not pure convection though, just session hybrid with more convection than arizer in my experience, but the vivant is pure convection on demand.

And yes I recommended to you above, tinymight is the overall portable to beat that can even put desktops to shame... Then there is Tetra P80, Milaana2/3, plus Splinter and all the other mod-based vapes (which are different in that you need to get the vape and a mod, usually separate depending where you buy from) like dreamwood Glow, stempod, imp, iheat, etc.

I did look at the Tinymight but it seemed above my price range, but the international website doesn't mention what currency the price is in so I'm not sure how much it costs but it seemed high regardless of the currency.

For now I wanted something not too expensive to replace my Pax I barely ever used, but if I find I use the Air 2 a lot and don't find it good enough I will be willing to spend a lot more on a top quality portable at a later time, but I wanted something mid-range for now to get me back into portable vaping.

Yeah so the way to get back into portable vaping would be with a better vape imo both pax and air are just underpowered, using session conduction, cannot compare to something like a volcano or a tinymight... On demand pure convection is just so much better for me, so yeah TM cost is like $260 shipped to USA, not exactly cheap, but well worth it when it replaces everything else! Meanwhile that's why we recommend the fury edge as a better budget option, you will get more out of the herb with it than you will with the air, but you can decide for yourself what you want... vapor quality is a tricky thing if you never try these vapes you don't know what to compare to, but once you finally do you'll see... I just would find the air so tedious these days, I did have some nostalgia for that style of vaping from when I owned them, but then getting the fury vapes completely resolved that doing everything they do, only better, basically...

I got the Air 2 today and just tried a load, for my first try with a much coarser grind than I use in the Volcano I'm very happy, and I think there's still some left... yea, just turned it up to 428 and was able to get about 3 more draws, though it was of course getting toasty at this temp. I'll test finer grinds and different packness levels to see what works best but my first try came out great so it can only get better with experimenting. I also got a 60mm stem with tip with it and it barely sticks out at all and the plastic tip helps keep it cool despite being so short, it may end up being my favorite stem.

I'm very happy so far, and I think we can all agree it's by far the best portable I've owned (Solo, Pax and Air 2). The flow is far less restricted than the Solo, so much so that I slowed my inhale as I felt air was flowing too fast.

Enjoy your vape 😁 If it gets you to where you need to go that's all that matters. Some people might think me a bit odd for still being so fond of my Dynavap when I also have a New Vape Weedeater, shouldn't be a fair fight right? But the Dynavap offers me things that the Weedeater can't 😲 And I pretty much split duties between the two, each offering something unique and special if I can get a little new agey lol you got something that checked most of your boxes and more importantly your happy with it so I consider that a win and especially during these times every one of life's little wins helps us keep our sanity :tinfoil:
