haha I keep checking for more posts in this thread like a dog waiting for his owner or something
is the 0.5" seal with the vapcap pretty airtight? does it matter?
i bet a bowl of dry sift/keef with this would be :whoa:

maybe measuring the temperature curve would be cool..

I can do that. Thanks for the idea

The gap doesn’t matter. It’s a really small gap.

Oohhh, I’ll measure the temp while vaping some bubble.

Wait... I don’t have a plotting thermometer. Or do I? Huh. Must look around.

Edit: Figured out how to do it. No fancy graphs though.

Candellabra vape. This is really promising for anyone who likes to build. Seems dreamy to me. Very high quality vapor with very low cost, and you get to personalize it yourself. I'm excited about how fast it heats up. Super cool.

That’s my intention, to simplify all this silliness. The thermal equations were a bit of work but if you follow the basic mass/ power aspects of what I’m showing it will work.

The base needs to be heavy, the reflecting tube needs to be thin (relative) and the top nozzle a bit thicker. 100W for the mass I’m using is perfect.

That said, it definitely does not fuck around.

you could just record the thermometer's reading with a camera while vaping? and i could plot a fancy graph

My idea exactly

Are you heating the cap of the vapcap or using it like a stem as a woodscents log does

Like a woodscents

@Boden

Have you seen this thread yet?
More digital version.

Just looked. Too complex.

My assistant wants one. I’m going to build it using only the drill-press.

Around here... several.

Slacker hippy may have a PhD in applied physics but does he remember to bring the wood for me to make this thing with... no.

I bet he thinks I’m going to dig into my stash of unobtanium and use something special.

WRONG

More like a flowerpot than a log. If the flowerpot was on-demand from off to ready in 15 seconds.
So it's more comparable to the flowerpot than the supreme?

Edit 2: *puzzled* In what way is the Supreme lacking?

the performance(?) of the flowerpot showerhead and supreme has been said to be "comparable"/"similar"? I meant, I hoped the Light Box could approach it in terms of "heavy hitterness" and use case, even if the way it works is completely different.
This one is more serviceable, easier to use and cheaper. So if it has similar performance.. :whoa::bowdown:
and if it doesn't, then i have no idea how it wouldn't. shorter heating path? I dunno much about how vapes work

Quite right :)

Build log:

First you drill a deep hole, forstner bits are your friend

TPidT0M.jpg

Then you drill a recess in the bottom

XkhTTsz.jpg

Then you sand down the reducing coupling to fit the hole.
I’m using a 1” to 0.5” for this one. (Experiment)

More tomorrow :D

So it's more comparable to the flowerpot than the supreme?

I’ve used a flowerpot. As far as potential energy, this wins. But most of that potential is beyond what anyone would need. Well anyone in their right mind. I’ll have to look up the supreme again.

Edit: looked up supreme. This still wins on raw potential energy output.

Yes it’s in the same league. All three will melt you into the couch.

You would not believe the whining that went on when boy blunder saw that chunk of Fir.

So finally he gets some Cherry wood 8/4 true aka 2” thick. (This is a good choice of wood)

I cut it into 2x2” blanks

This one is using the screw base linked above.

I think this is going to work well.

The notch on the right side is for a set screw to hold the reducing coupling in place.

It will get sanded down all pretty later.

Super high tech cross section: (may not be exactly to scale)

Awesome, I'd like to know how it does.

how do you polish the interior of the nipple/midsection? is it necessary?

was the other one easier to mount? like this?

I9otX89.png
Polish the midsection with sandpaper starting with 220 stepping through grits to 1000 grit. Then I moved to metal polish. I used a stick with a slit in it to hold the sandpaper and paper towels. Then I spun the tube. I could spin the stick in a drill. Simple flap wheel.

It is necessary to keep most of the IR radiation bouncing around until it hits the oxidized screens at the top. The screens then finish heating the air.

Good drawing, very close (forgot the screens)

They were both very easy to build.

thanks

Some T4 bulb supposedly has a diameter of 0.53". so it wouldn't fit? is it bad if it's "prism" or seemingly not clear glass?:

But your satco S1924 above has a diameter of 0.5", but it fits inside the 0.5" nipple?
Ah, "pipe sizes do not refer to any physical dimensions". Nice.

bit expensive, thinner T3.5:

maybe i should use a 35-45W bulb.. it's gonna be a while until I can build one, either way.
best diy vape project ever
