Friday evening. Should be kinda fun.

Just saw a clip.

King: So, did you smoke pot before you came on the show.
Nelson: Yup. Wanna arrest me?

The should be good.

Don't much care for his music, but I definitely respect the man! Hopefully he makes King look as stupid as he really is.

I don't think it's really going to take on a confrontational tone, although I did kinda present it that way. But they will get into his MJ use and endorsement.

This is almost related.

Jesse Ventura talks with some commercial broadcasters.

It's hard to argue with intelligent men. Wilie didn't get where he is by being dumb. Neither did Jesse. Commercial news is just that a commercial. :2c:

I think this kind of appearance, by respected folks, will continue to erode 'the old folks, puritan hold' on post-prohibition America and it's world wide influence. ;)

Jesse Ventura has the life

I heard him on the radio talking about living in Mexico of the grid

Surfing all day, growing weed

Nice. Make some money on a few books here and there, a few speaking engagements whenever you want and then do the things you love doing.

Willie talked about vaporizers on CNN. Classic.

77 years old and the guy's touring his ass off.

i didnt like adnerson coopers "editing" of the interview, to make it appear that willie is just a dumb stoner. this is sort of a joke to cnn isnt it?

Not at all. The whole interview was done with a lot of respect and admiration for Willie. Was treated with respect. One thing with Willie Nelson is that he says it the way it is. Doesn't pull any punches. Definitely got some insight into the man. I thought it was a good interview.

now i do agree with you there that larry king did do a good job interviewing him. and did treat him with respect. but its the reaction from anderson cooper where he edited the interview, and added his own jokes about smoking pot into the mix. i thought that was disrespectful but thats just me. :2c:

Ahhh......no, I agree with ya there. Anderson Cooper surprises me sometimes. Ya think ya got the guy down, and then he comes up with shit like that. I don't think it's a CNN thing more than just an AC thing. Strange.........

Edit: (vaked so.......here's some more. ;))

On the other hand, CNN's ratings have dropped into the toilet, so they may be frantically searching for a bit of controversy to spur ratings, or God forbid, turn into another FOX. I mean, that was kind of a FOX move. (ok, I'm done, I think. :uhoh:)

I watched this and didn't see anything confrontational at all. Matter of fact questions from King and matter of fact answers from Willie.

You could tell Larry King was trying to be as respectful as possible. I thought it was a good interview. Very chilled out with the duet at the end, which was slightly painful to listen to without Larry knowing the lyrics, but was pretty cool nonetheless.

Why? He's interviewed some of the most interesting people on the planet and for the most part, has done an excellent job of it, including this interview with Willie.

My guess is that Larry has ingested more drugs ( of all flavors ) than anyone on this forum...

Larry's good at focusing the interview on the subject rather than himself and he's also skilled at making people feel comfortable. Joe Franklin was good in that respect also.

You are all right. I fell victim to Anderson Cooper's editing and didn't see the actual interview raw. Maybe I need to start DVRing the actual show, instead of seeing the "summarized" version.

Lately CNN seems to be drifting off the radar, locally it's been moved from channel 10 to I think channel 77, which plays a role in people tuning in or not tuning in to that channel.
If not for Anderson Cooper the channel would be completely bland on the news reporting side, and I find Larry King to be a welcome breath of realism on the network.
When Bush was president I watched CNN for a critical perspective. I don't really get that sense anymore or at least not now.
Too bad they dumped Lou Dobbs - for better or worse the guy was real and impassioned about his beliefs.
Broadcast journalism has become a cult of personality and that's why in my opinion FOX is so dominant now.

What I'd love to see is a "debate" news channel on cable - I think that is needed and if done well would be electrifying and important.

At the same time it's quite sad that newspaper journalism is struggling to survive.
