Is my AVB even potent?

My AVB gave me a light mushroom-like experience when I ate it the first time. That was when i was vaping with my Mighty.
I got rid of my Mighty shortly after that, but I'm not sure of the exact timing :sherlock:

Now i vape between Elev8r, Sticky Brick, and a Heat Island. My AVB seems to not do much except make me more tired. I have tried straight eating in yogurt, which is the method that gave me the best results the first time. I have also tried extracting, making butter, infusing into coconut oil, firecrackers...ETC.:horse:

PS I mention that i was using the Mighty because, as a newbie it is very hard to 'max out' a bowl in the Mighty! i never tried to grasp every last wisp of vapor from the Mighty, i would change the bowl! :sherlock:

However, with my vapes now, i usually end up turning the top black on the first hit. And then stirring. is this bad?i just realized

@Shit Snacks mentioned that my AVB may not be potent! so here's a closer pic!

PPS i ate a 710 bar for the first time tonight!. it is supposed to be 400mg and i ate half. That was two hours ago and i feel stoned from the vaping, not much edible. I don't know. When i was younger edibles DEFINITELY hit me! I had two HUGE bad trips. We will see what happens tonight. It seems lately edibles haven't had much effect. Can that thing where edibles don't affect certain people, only manifest later in life?
Ever since my tolerance increased edibles seem to do much less, yet smoking still does the same...

Oh it's definitely hard to tell with an edible, if you're already vaping, then it just kind of extends and deepens the eye, then you go to sleep and whatever lol Also not all edibles are created equal, I don't know that brand but yeah they are literally all going to be different so many variables... Body chemistry as well though some people don't feel things, some people feel a lot from the tiniest amounts it's crazy, the basic question though I stand by my suggestion that maybe your AVB is just not worth cooking with unless it's a lot a lot at a time, I think most degree black AVB is not worth saving at all!

A 710 Bar is supposedly 400mg, and made with concentrate rather than flower...it seems to be somewhat strong after taking what was supposed to be 200mg.

I'm not sure if it really was 200mg and my tolerance is that high, or if it is mislabeled/etc.!

Any ways, I would love to make my own edibles but i've just had the worst luck so far. Mrow :(

@Shit Snacks Is it bad that i blacken the tops of my bowls?

That would depend who you ask, I say not, though it's not something I want to do? But you're definitely not leaving anything worth extracting from black, and I think most of what's below it the mix of brown is also dark enough that it's pretty extracted...

And yeah I don't know who knows what this brand put in there edibles specifically, like I get these mints that are only 5 mg THC 5 mg CBD and they are great for controlled dosage eating several, or even 10 mg sucking candies, that can be strong, like I said everything's different there's so much variety, and the body chemistry, so who the hell knows what's what lol

I guess you'll just have to keep trying everything :freak:

I used to make a concentrate out of abv.

When I used my volcano I stayed at a lower temperature and had potent abv, but less potent with other vapes and darker abv.

Abv oil can have high levels of cbn's. Cbn happens when thc and cbd degrade. Cbn is good for sleep and pain. Imo the abv oil tastes nasty, but in capsules you don't taste it save a possible burp.

Since I don't vape herb anymore I purposely make cbn by decarbing my gear twice. I use this for sleep inducing capsules. They work for my wife and I very well.

As for the OP's chocolate bar, it's hard to say what the problem is because there are so many variables.

How a body metabolizes food is important. Some people with damaged livers can't get off on edibles.

Sometimes the canna oil isn't mixed evenly and the effects can be wildly different in a batch of edibles.

When you use a relatively small amount of oil in a much larger amount of chocolate you really need to mix it well. I find the canna oil likes to stay on the spatula so you need to keep cleaning it off and keep mixing the chocolate. Even commercial kitchens can have this happen.

Tolerance issues can also come into play.

Yeah I pissed on the rug...... so what
Did you use a sunflower or soy ?lichen? Lectin? in your butter or oil infusions? That spelling might be wrong

I'm a chronic user of cannabis, meaning I pretty much vape from morn to night. For me, I found ABV extractions not strong enough to take me where I wanted to be. I found that by using decarbed legal concentrate, I could produce effective edibles that I can estimate potency because legal concentrate has the % of THC on the label. 1 gram 75% THC = 750 mg THC. I, too, use sunflower lecithin, if I'm combining with an oil. Lecithin is an "emulsifier", which means it allows oil and water to combine. It is supposed to improve "bioavailability", i.e. easier for the body to process.

I prefer to make tincture, combining decarbed concentrate into 95% Everclear. You can always add strong tincture to cooking because the alcohol evaps off. I like to spike cookie dough. Just a few drops of strong tincture per cookie makes great magic cookies.

I use sunflower lecithin in both powder and liquid form.

The powdered lecithin is melted in oil or butter before using.

I use the liquid when I don't have a lot of oil or butter to work with, like when I make chocolate bars and don't want to use a of coconut or mct oil. It mixes easily, but it does add a little taste. Something like a weak molasses.

Like @macbill said it's an emulsifier and increases bioavailability. So worth using.

Yea vaped bud is always a bit of an unknown. I’ve gotten more then I bargained for in the past eating it and other times the effects are muted. Generally I’ve found if the bud is darker and turns to dust when you roll between your fingers then you will need a lot more of it to get what your wanting out of it.

What does AVB stand for? Is that supposed to be ABV?

ABV is just already been vaped, so there is no noun missing and it also sounds like alcohol blood volume? We have a whole other thread talking about "AVB vs ABV" and other names to call vaporized herbs... I just like using browns and greens for simplicity!

@Shit Snacks Is it bad that i blacken the tops of my bowls?
Some argue that higher temps release unwanted chemicals as well as destroying terps, things like Benzene are released pre combustion.
So if you push that line you might be introducing nasties that we are trying to avoid. To me that roasty char taste and blackend top tells me I've gone too far. Certainly no good for edibles and it aint gonna taste any good.
There is a thread, maybe others;
https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/...election-of-effects.1637/page-23#post-1462184

If you are overheating the elev8r with the torch, have you tried to gauge the temp using the colour of the glass as a guide?
I haven't read back through the whole thread so sorry if this has been posted before. There is a fool proof way to get your torch timing perfect every time without counting. You need to be in a darkened room so draw the curtains and switch off the light. Where the torch hits the glass it gives off a faint blue glow, at first. As it heats up the glow gets lighter coloured until it starts to glow orange, then cherry red, glowing more as the glass gets hotter. Look closely at the heater and you will see the glow all around the glass where the flame hits as it changes colour.
I look for 1 hit extraction so I heat until I see the tell tale glow turn that steady solid orange but before the strong cherry red glow (cherry red will combust).
Once I think I am at temp I do a simple but very accurate check. If i hold the heater up to my faca about 2 inches from my cheek i can feel the heat glowing strongly and I know I am good to go. If i feel too much heat on the cheek I just wait a few specs before starting the draw.
You can tell the temp with 100% accuracy by judging the colour of the heater glow and by just holding it a certain distance from your cheek and getting to know the right amount of heat you feel. If the hit was too hot then you know the cheek feel should be less intense, or more if the hit wasn't hot enough. Colour and temp are 100% correlated so same colour means same temp every time.
You need a consistent dark room, my small light in my vape lounge (aka the shed) failed and I replaced it with a brighter version and it made it too hard to see the glow so now it goes off when the torch comes on.
I hope this helps some people because with consistent heating this vape should be top of every list. It is easily my favourite. Something cool about analogue user control and all glass. My flowerpot might be less hassle but I prefer the elev8r every time. I also have an enail setup with ruby terp pearls but still prefer the torch setup because it all glass.

I've also heard and used duff to describe vaped weed. Not sure where I picked that up, or where it came from, but I didn't hear abv used until I stopped by here.

Rosin is another weird term. Since there already is rosin made from tree sap, and used in violin playing and for gripping a baseball, id think we'd have a better name for squeezed concentrates. I think I'll start calling it Ralph.

Ah! I am actually, blackening the AVB when i use my log vape. Not the Elev8r!
Still, that is a great guide on visual temperature for it!!

There is a lot of green left. There is certainly THC and CBD left in your herb.

What I cannot answer is if the THC and CBD have been fully decarboxylated. Comparing to the colour I get when I decarb flower, I would say that it still needs further decarb. There are others here that have far more knowledge than me.

Edibles don't affect me as much as vaping.

I saw on YouTube using an electric whisk to stir the actives evenly and also remove bad tastes

Warm the butter till soft, whisk, refrigerate again and then repeat the process a few times

Eventually the butter turns more like normal butter then usual green cannaoil

Also removes the AVB tastes
A bit time consuming but worth it

Also I still can't make up my mind if it's worth making butter from ABV
Maybe as a CBN sleep aid but that's about it

i extracted/cooked my abv down like shredder does for his caps. i was stunned last night….
the first time to try the abv goo (similar to rso) in a cap…went with an approx. three rice grain dose…
in two hours….lites OUT!

so the answer is yes. avb can club ya on the noggin‘ and let ya rest. SAVE and extract!

I've probably told this story here before, but when I was experimenting with making oil from abv, and came in for supper with my mother visiting, I got so buzzed I was literally falling asleep at the table. I had to excuse myself and go lay down.

My wife was pissed, lol.

Your AVB doesn't look too dark to me, looks about right. My understanding is if you start with flower around 20% THC, your AVB should be somewhere in the 5% range. Which should be plenty, but there are many variables in the process -- is all of the AVB decarbed, did you get all of the THC to transfer to your butter/oil, etc.
