Madri-Gal
Child Of The Revolution
Well, if I'm in it, it must not be cool.
I didn't consume cannabis, so I didn't consider growing. The consumption changed after my family doc came into the exam room with a "script". I hadn't asked for it, and was I surprised at the offer. My Doc felt it would help with chronic migraines. So chronic for chronic. I still didn't think of growing. My neighbor on my right grew, as did the neighbor on the left. One day a swat team and two police departments showed up for the neighbor on the right. They weren't there for pot, and there were 125 plants in the yard. During the search of the home and property, the officers would stop and admire the crop, and also talked about how nice the neighbors crop was belonging to the neighbor on my left. There was a great view from the suspect neighbors back porch, and the officers walked through and around the plants, so there was no mistake about the plants. The plants weren't taken, the police didn't come back for them. We actually have a police drug task force office at the end of our block, and the officers often cut through the alley, and there are potent smells of skunk and Deisel near harvest. I live two minutes from the main police station as well.
After this, planting a few plants didn't seem like such a big deal. In fact, it was empowering to be able to grow my own medicine for the year. Every year someone tries to steal the crop from neighbor on the right, but so far no police have showed interest beyond admiration during the past arrest.
Right now, what seems to be happening is the permit department wants you to have permits, and you can get fined without a permit. Better than worrying about the police, but permits aren't fun, or sexy, and why am I giving the city money so I can garden? I don't know if legalization is the beginning of the end for cannabis, but things are for sure changing.
