Great post Magic9. That's the kind of propaganda they have had a steady diet of since 1953. With no other source of "News" since the ceasefire(gotta remember we are still actually at war with 'em) how could the people know anything but what they're allowed to have access to.
on a side note: The DPRK still run the largest radio/communication jammers on earth to keep the people in the dark.
Edit: my real life namesake was one of those solders we Left behind as a distraction when everyone else pulled out, leaving them to be captured or killed with no means to resupply or retreat.
One of Our not so well known moments in military history. (showing we have our own propaganda machine firmly in place.)

It think maybe Sony doesn't want some certain info released by N. Korea so they decided not to show the movie. Maybe there is something more to it? I was so surprised that they decided not to release the movie. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist. It seemed odd to me.
I know the movie theaters said they wouldn't show it. Sony said they weren't going to release it as a DVD either. Normally we don't cowed down to terrorists like that. This really sets a bad presidence. We live in a country with free speach.. Remember the Constitution?

Theatre owners are still reeling from the massacre that happened
with the Batman premier . So I can understand their concerns with in
regards to the safety of their patrons .
But I agree , were on a slippery slope to losing our Freedom ,
when we cower down to terrorists . Maybe this all started with Salmon Rushdie .
He had a death sentence contracted out to ALL extremists to have him killed .
All because of a book he wrote . Let's Not forget depicting Mohammed in comics/cartoons
will also get you in trouble .
What if the next movie they ( terrorists ) don't like the depiction of

from experiencing another day on Earth .

There's been a lot of speculation that Sony decided to just collect on the insurance instead of releasing the movie. This latest statement though, kind of puts the blame on the theater chains.
"Update: Sony Pictures Entertainment issued a statement that again relayed the sequence of events, saying that they were left with "no choice" but to pull the movie after exhibitors abandoned the movie. They also indicated that they have not given up on the project, saying, "It is still our hope that anyone who wants to see this movie will get the opportunity to do so."
Their statement: "Sony Pictures Entertainment is and always has been strongly committed to the First Amendment. For more than three weeks, despite brutal intrusions into our company and our employees' personal lives, we maintained our focus on one goal: getting the film The Interview released. Free expression should never be suppressed by threats and extortion.
"The decision not to move forward with the December 25 theatrical release of The Interview was made as a result of the majority of the nation's theater owners choosing not to screen the film. This was their decision.

Personally, I think using the real dictator as the target in the plot, was a bad idea. Change the name, make him look different- people would still 'get it'. There's no guarantee they still wouldn't have hacked Sony Pictures, but Sony wouldn't have been asking for it to the extent they did when they decided to name names. It's not like Hollywood hasn't been using NK as the bad guy in movies and TV shows for years now.

What's considered satire or concern directed at their nation is being repackaged and distributed to the NKs as aggression and hostility from the outside world.
It's not too much of a stretch between the truth and what's perceived as the truth.
At he end of the day I'm sure that your average North Korean want's pretty much the same things out of life that the rest of us do.

I've read interviews and such (AMA (ask me anything) threads on reddit) from people that escaped from there, you would be surprised at the kind of stuff that they can get across and into NK. Movies, shows, documentaries (Western media type stuff), on flash drives, DVD's and DVD players, computers, etc. Sometimes it's even people that are supposed to be guarding the border that meet outsiders to smuggle materials in. The anti-regime sentiments are bigger than we would think, of course nobody that actually lives there would ever dream of telling a reporter, the reporter can go home and the person has to stay there. If it's talked about, it's between very close friends or family.

I watched this in total. Considering that this has been approved by the government, it makes this an even more bizarre glimpse into the life of North Koreans. What a bleak existence.
On the other hand, the interview with the grandfather that had all those medals was enlightening. One has to ask themselves that if you experienced what he experienced, would you have as much hatred for the USA as he has?
