😂😂 I have absolutely no clue why I do that in every video, people always said the camera adds 10 pounds, I think it's a subconscious mannerism hoping the cloud will be big enough to not make me look fat on TV 😂😂
It's nervous and subconscious, when u only use index and inch.
Nervous and muscular because index and inch contraction reduce the other side one.
Subconscious, because the pinky have no strenght use here, so u put it higher to not bother the working fingers and move your hand gravity center.
Which lead to the metaphorical aristocratie, putting way higher, showing how far they stay from work..

So It may be for u just a subconscious optimisation, or a deep aristocratic desire :rofl:

Your issue is the slight pectus excavatum u have. Congenital mostly but they're also due to bad positioning. More and more happening those days due to chair/computing position.
But can be consequence of a lung tumor (not to fear anyone...)

Then, the american diet have certainly overfeed ur liver. Which is the one that destroy oestrogene (female hormon). And so will start build up fat in your tities :lol:

Custom quartz parts look to be landing today, theoretically that means they could ship out today to the pilot group, but I’ll probably hold for a day or two to test and look over everything.

Well looks like as usual there’s good news and bad news...

The good news is it rips! Been testing all afternoon and it is noticeably more comfortable to use.

The bad news is the holes were clearly done by hand and not by precision CNC machining like they were supposed to be. I’m pretty frustrated about that. They aren’t total trash, but still not quite up to my standards. So unfortunately it looks like there’s still stuff to sort out. Hopefully the manufacturer steps up and makes things right, but it’s definitely frustrating cause it’s like dejavu... let it be a lesson that even simple custom glass work is complicated.

I've liked for the progress.

Can't put a sad emote too for CnC issues. In an old post u were talking about the femstosecond laser, too expensive ? or need of too much power for the qwartz thickness ? (it's stil not diamond though :lol: )

Laser easily available for will be too weak, but someone mention waterjet cutting, and some machine allow 0.4mm radius .. but the power needed for qwartz would be again maybe too much for contemporary monkey tools :rofl:

Maybe just a laser notches, not deep, (just a tip.. sry XD, american porn propanganda...)

Diamond tips and plenty of water makes machining quartz doable fairly easy.
Looking at the top those holes can be drilled by hand on a press quick.
Maybe going without them being manufactured that way and doing it yourself is the easy fix?

@arb Boring the quartz will introduce stress points and it would require annealing after the process to relieve the stress,so it can be ultimately safe.
I know a lot of people have success cutting ,boring,etc glass without annealing afterwards,but shit happens once,sometimes it litteraly creates a blast and a swarm of flying shards,u dont want that happening especially if it is near the face,i'd say leave it to the pro's cause owning a kiln is not really worth it unless you are a real glass blower,renting one is better option. I do my stuff at a glass art studio at a university close by and rent it by the hour.
@invertedisdead Looking at the pic above,they did a sloppy work ,didnt even bothered to flame polish ,ask them if they did annealing after the bore or before.

You nailed it, it's very important that the quartz is precision annealed properly after machining, especially since the part is going to hold hot beads, the integrity of the glass is super critical.


The sales manager told me this morning she recognized it was her error in communicating with the production department, and they are going to replace the parts as soon as possible, utilizing the proper CNC capabilities to make everything look clean and polished. I'm certainly relieved to hear that! I just want to get to the finish line at this point. I guess this is why we don't see too much custom glass parts like this in the industry, going beyond hand working, it's really a lot of work + additional expenses.

I think it would be cost prohibitive to outsource the drilling to a second shop at this point though, I'd have to be moving a decent quantity to justify it. I don't think the laser is necesarry for this part, I know they have the capabilities to pull it off as I've dealt with this before. What is really is, is shops don't want to program or setup CNC/CAD for tiny prototype runs. In fact for tiny sample runs, its common for shops to charge more for this setup than the price of the actual machined parts.


Lasers are cool though, I have a few ideas that really do need lasers to build them.

Ur CnC issue is just aesthetic.
But As i know u love airflow, laser could allow really high flow pattern. But only a jeweler equipped may be able to do that. With their prices :rofl: :cry:

Did i miss an episode, where the housing lost its handle for the coil ? U want to force people to "one heat" only :evil: ?

Some lasers can drill like 1000 holes in one second 🤑🤑

Yeah I dropped the coil arm this go around to keep the roundness /concentricity as tight as I could. A big goal was to keep the roundness for optimal coil contact, and I figured the best way to do that was to not do too much to the part with hot working. I liked the idea of the coil arm a lot, but it didn't seem to make a huge difference in practice.

I keep thinking, if I add a lip to the top of it, as a bowl, it could easily turn into an all glass WPA for my Alpha, or the TM, and other cool stuff. 🤔
