The design is done. It’s a 4 part print and the first is on the printer... it will probably be a week and a half for all of the parts to be printed and for me to process them.So what are we thinking timeline-wise on the stands?
From there, I’ll spend a full day making molds. Then they will need at least 7 days to dry before use.
Then I can start making the ceramic base, I can make roughly 5 per day per mold.
Then they have to dry for a few days. Then it will be about 2-3 days for firing.
Then I’ll need 2 days to epoxy the magnets and for the glue to dry.
Then a day for photos... So probably around the middle of August.
Sub $50. Probably $40 ideally
Initially I was thinking $30-$40. But that was a value driven estimate without calculating the cost of materials or considering labor. And I think that it’s going to be too low.
$50 seems reasonable, but then there’s also the weird aspect that this handmade stand is the same price as 5 launch pads... and they both hold 5 VCs...
I think $25-35 might be a better price point, but maybe I’m cheap? Lol.
I feel like the launchpad and silo have excellent cost to value ratios, and would like to see that continue. I’ve bought now 4 launchpads, because it’s a great product at a great price.
Great products at great prices is what we are all about. It’s something that’s really easy to do with overseas manufacturing... but we actually will have to make these. And it’s a niche item. So there’s a lot more to consider.
But it’s absolutely a fun little experiment. And if it works out, we will totally start offering more specialized handmade gear.
