As a parent i would never encourage my kids to search for porn, i do think it should be up to parents what to do. Sadly these days more kids are technically proficient than their parents and can get around most controls.

Inherently these filters in places like libraries are bad because they overreach and block content that needs to be accessible. A perfect example would be someone searching for information on breast cancer and getting that blocked because of key words. Also making something prohibited makes some people more intent on getting in.

As the internet crosses state lines only the Federal govt can make laws to limit it. Project 2025 wants to eliminate ALL porn just likes it calls for the elimination of legalization of Cannabis. So much for freedom

I am familiar with the JH hospital, it is a fine hospital if it is the one downtown I am thinking of.

2 questions:
How do you think Eric Adams will effect race? Trump endorsed the MAGA candidate so you know he will lose in NYC

Second i don't pay much mind when it comes to these labels. The reality is most Republicans don't know the difference between Communism or Socialism or anything else. These also don't know what Fascism is either and now that it is established in this country it will be hard to get rid of. The sight of unmarked ICE agents swooping in on
Yes, it's the Johns Hopkins in the city. They saved my life twice. One time the doctors stated that I'd be dead in week or less. Ruined my weekend plans:).

@Bazinga You are wasting your time here.
I've asked twice with no reply. I promise I won't ask again after this. The OP along with Cosimo, bellona0544, and his-highness491 have all stated or agreed that I am wasting my time here. I don't know if you are too busy to provide some clarity or are intimidated. At the end of the day it's not your call to make this statement. The time "wasted" is my time to waste.

Either way, you stated your opinion but will not defend it. I wonder why. C'mon guys or gals don't hide. I don't bite (well maybe sometimes).

Florduh - The name of the book is The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. This is one of the 2 you recommended. Should be made available to me in the middle of next week. Thanks again.

Pretty sure he means most folks you’re talking with aren’t likely to be swayed. He’s been in a few similar debates about whether trump is a fascist (as the only person arguing that trump isn’t) which went about the same way. The Gaza genocide has become very politically charged and it’s next to impossible to have a good faith debate about it nowadays.

Hopefully the books are informative! I’d also recommend watching The Chosen (1981). Tells the story of 2 jewish boys (1 reformed, the other orthodox) in 1940s New York during the post war formation of israel and how Zionism changed their friendship. It focuses more on the kids rather than the history, but the debate has barely changed since then and was a very humanising take on both sides.

I'm fine with a difference of opinion on Israel's politics and future. But there is no debate on the current conflict. The best thing for everyone involved, including Israelis and American Jews, is for that "war" to end immediately.

Another recommendation for anyone interested in this shit is the podcast Bad Hasbara: The World's Most Moral Podcast. It's hosted by comedian Matt Lieb and the son of a Holocaust survivor.

The only thing I disagree with Matt about: he's like 7 feet tall. Dude could have been the Hebrew LeBron. Instead, he's Mr. Funny Guy :disgust:

Very much agree, was mostly trying to stay as neutral as I can in my post. This conflict has been heart wrenching to watch, and it’s been pretty clear from the outset that Israel’s current leadership was just waiting for an excuse.

Good vids. On the issue with AI taking jobs its not just tech that is getting impacted. There is a video in my Youtube feed about a company that makes Automated AI enhanced robot to make French Fries for fast food places.

So my earliest recollection growing up was people saying that if someone couldn't do any other job they could always be a "Fry Cook". You have to ask then what will these people do in the future if MOST of the jobs are replaced by AI devices and technology??

What are the moral "Rules" that AI engines will have to follow? I am troubled that our government is CLUELESS about the power of this technologies and what the potential impacts are. Some of them can't even use a computer so you know they have no clue. I am troubled when Tech Magnates like Elon Musk etc want to jump in and decide to set these limits. I give you the Prime example of Elon Musk, arguably the richest man in the world that they don't need this Medicaid stuff. and of course these people are demanding their Tax Cuts.

Personally, I am not opposed to AI but we should be having conversations about the Moral limits we need to put on this AI technology (called A1 by the one who is in charge of the Dept of Education). So far zero progress about this except a lot of hand wringing over China catching up so quickly.

This line from the article about tech workers losing their job to AI sums it up nicely:
“We wanted robots to clean the dishes and do our laundry, so we could draw pictures and write stories. Instead they gave us robots to draw pictures and write stories, so we could clean dishes and do laundry.”

Also worth noting that the same article is the first in a planned series and will feature workers from other sectors and industries, should be an interesting (yet depressing) follow.

Thank you for the reply. I did watch the Chosen about 40 years. Really don't remember much. Heck, I can't what I had for breakfast. Rest assured I am not attempting to sway anyone or change their mind. I realized a long time ago that changing someone's mind who is passionate about a topic is almost impossible. A teacher (a good one) doesn't try to change minds. We should teach critical thinking to enable students and non-students to perform adequate research and ask a lot of questions. When they have completed these tasks they are in a better position to make informed choices and decisions on their own.

For example, take Florduh (please take Florduh:)). He (she) disagree with me each other on many topics particularly revolving the agonizing events and controversial Zionism in the middle east. He was kind enough to suggest a book for me to in order that I can see a different outlook on the topic. I don't remember he/she doing this a condescending fashion. I would have suggested in a similar fashion to my students to expand their horizons. If I don't read the book I would be contradicting my own convictions.

Thanks again for the post !!

Agreed. It appears that the pause in fighting (and killing and maiming) has stopped. Let's hope it is over.

Thanks to the Supreme Court, a Leftist President in 2028 could/should do all of the following on Day One without the Courts being able to stop them:

Invoke the Defense Production Act to take public control of key supply chains (food, energy, water, pharma)
Seize patent rights under Bayh-Dole Act and begin public production of insulin and other essential meds
Declare vacancy and land hoarding as national emergencies, prepare to tax or seize vacant units
Create a task force to determine targets for eminent domain which will include: vacant housing held by REITs, private equity, and landlords with over 100 units in major American cities. Buildings sitting empty (luxury condos). Warehouses or office buildings suitable for adaptive reuse
De-schedule cannabis, psilocybin, and other Schedule I drugs via DOJ/DEA directive
Abolish ICE through attrition
Suspend all military aid to Israel and Saudi Arabia
All of these things (and more) could be done before noon on Inauguration Day, 2029. And there's nothing anyone could do about it. Thank you, Supreme Court!

Oh, and if all those Executive Orders aren't signed by the next Democrat President by noon on Inauguration Day, you'll know we just got bamboozled again by an Obama style charlatan.

Oh, and if the Supreme Court tries to do any sabotage, the new President/Chairman can sign an emergency order immediately appointing 100, 25 year old, trans, they/them recent law school grads to the Court. They'll be so busy building All Gender bathrooms that the Supreme Court won't be able to rule on anything ever again

Thanks again, Supreme Court! You are my best friend

:peace: :leaf:
So the "Trump Doctrine" according to JD Vance in the second link amounts to "we will start a war even with the flimsiest provocation, if we think we can benefit". Go back in history and you will see this was the background of the Spanish American war and the chant "remember the Maine" -or- Tonkin Gulf Resolution as the basis for getting into the Vietnam conflict.

DJT went into this term touting himself as the "Peace President" which quickly went by the wayside w the offer Netanyahu present to him to attack Iran because he carries grudges. The question remains if Iran's damage really impacted their nuclear program and evidently Secretary Hegseth Lost his SHiT the other day when a reporter questioned if all the nuclear fuel had been moved prior to the strike. At least during the Bush Jr administration there was a lame attempt to lie to the UN security council before the Iraq war.

Uh oh. New antisemitic chant just dropped.

LOL. The BBC refused to show Irish band Kneecap's performance because they hurt Israel's feelings in the past. Then they showed this dude's whole performance.

Jesus Christ. White British oi' bruvs see the sun one time and start chanting "death to the IDF".

Never heard of this "Bob Vylan" character before, but he's got at least one banger:

LOL. Can't get video from Glastonbury, but he had the oi bruvs singing along to, "I heard you want your country back? SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

I feel like chanting "down with the IDF" would have been a better idea and something more people would/could get behind :)

Am sure I heard that famous people did the same when it was the Vietnam war.

The thing about this is the band members are very likely aware what is going on over in Israel but all these "bruvs" or "chavs" as we call them have no idea where in the world Israel is never mind what goes on there :p but they would still charge random people with being antisemitic or racism when most of them cant even spell their own name.

Educating people would be the right thing but what does that look like?? telling people Israel and USA are right (good) and Iran/Palestine are wrong (bad)...........

That doesn't rhyme though. "Death, death to the IDF" does  Most people on Earth right now understand where Bob Vylan is coming from. Just not the crybabies at the BBC.

Rick Scott stole hundreds of millions of dollars from Medicaid and never even got arrested.

Healthcare cuts are set to murder 51,000 Americans per year. Republicans love mass murdering Americans.

I remember Trump saying he was running for "the Forgotten Man". The poor, rural, white working class. Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" is going to murder multiple 9/11's worth of white rural "forgotten men" every single year.

Y'all Qaeda is a bigger threat to Americans than Al Qaeda ever was

DOGE has the keys to sensitive data that could help Elon Musk

A Washington Post examination found that in at least seven major departments or agencies, DOGE secured the power to view records that contain competitors’ trade secrets, nonpublic details about government contracts, and sensitive regulatory actions or other information.

Saying, "Death, death to the IDF" is certainly impolite. But it isn't antisemitic. Do people just not know what that word means anymore?

LOL, it's illegal to hurt Israel's feelings in Oi Bruv Land??

Getting really tired of people being more upset about mean words than the livestreamed child holocaust our tax dollars have been facilitating for the past 20 months!

The Democrats are like an NFL team that's been floundering for 15 years, but just signed a #1 draft pick QB. Instead of rallying behind this new, once in a generation talent, Democrat Leadership wants to ratfuck him. Madness.

This is what I was saying would have been better received with them saying down as using the word death gets things thrown all out of proportion but this is deffo not antisemitic.

These people who saying X Y and Z are antisemitic when they are clearly just X Y and Z and nothing to do with antisemitism are antisemitic.

I think there's an obvious, inevitable and terrifying outcome to telling everyone who's spent the past 20 months watching countless videos of parents gathering the pieces of what used to be their toddlers into clear trash bags, "You need to support this OR you are an antisemite!"
