December 5, 2020: A momentous boom rocked parts of Upper New York State on December 2 after an exceptionally large meteor infiltrated the earth's atmosphere. The explosive flash produced a brilliant shadow across the city of Toronto, and the far reaching roar from the explosion created seismic like shaking across portions of north central New York

They Bet Big on Trump. Now They Claim Fraud.

Americans (with a few exceptions) cannot legally bet on elections, but gamblers in Europe and Asia poured millions into the 2020 presidential race. Some of those bettors, like a Brit who wagered about $1 million on Biden, became significantly richer when betting sites began paying out after Biden’s Electoral College win on Monday.
It's weird they're paying out on the electoral college votes when the article seems to imply the decision point is who is inaugurated. Does anyone have the actual rules of payout? It seems odd to have differing criteria.

Edit:
While I can't find the rules, the company claims:
The Next President market rules stipulated that we would settle the market on the candidate that had the most projected Electoral College votes.

Chocolate gets its sweet history rewritten

When did humans first start cultivating chocolate? It's not just a candy conundrum: the question has long interested both biologists and anthropologists who wonder how and why cacao became so important to ancient Mesoamerican civilizations such as the Maya and Aztecs, both of whom cherished chocolate so much they used it in religious rites and as currency.

18 months into the first serious clinical trials of CRISPR gene therapy for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia—and all patients are free from symptoms and have not needed blood transfusions.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) can cause a variety of health problems including episodes of severe pain, called vaso-occlusive crises, as well as organ damage and strokes.

Patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) are dependent on blood transfusions from early childhood.

Oct. 28, 1956, backstage at “The Ed Sullivan Show,” the 21-year-old Elvis Presley—the smooth-faced, pouting, swivel-hipped hero of American youth—extended his left arm. In went the needle. Off went the flashbulbs. A polio star was born.

Archaeologists uncover ancient street food shop in Pompeii

Archaeologists in Pompeii, the city buried in a volcanic eruption in 79 AD, have made the extraordinary find of a frescoed hot food and drinks shop that served up the ancient equivalent of street food to Roman passersby.

Known as a termopolium, Latin for hot drinks counter, the shop was discovered in the archaeological park's Regio V site, which is not yet open the public, and unveiled on Saturday.
