I never had a previous version to compare mine w/, but it is nothing like the early reviews or videos (which I assume are all q2's). There seems to be some disparity between how many intake holes are on the units. Mine had 4, which was way too many for me. The unit couldn't maintain heat and there was way too much air to ever get a real satisfying pull. The led would constantly be flickering, and the (loss of) vapor production was apparent when this was going on.
I plugged 3 of the 4 holes and used a grommet on the capsule where the top of the oven was exposed. Since doing this, my led rarely ever flickers, and the heat is way more contained. I am unable to detect any real convection action at all - as is still apparent w/ needing to wait 30-60 seconds between pulls. I also have to turn the heat up to about 7, wait 30 seconds then turn it back down to get productive vapor. I will get about 3-5 good pulls @5, turn it up to 7/then down to 6 - getting another 5-10 good pulls, then finish it off at 7. Vapor production is way more apparent @ 7, but not very smooth.
That being said, others have had different results. Some have 2 intake holes, others have 4. Some received xpb's, others received xpq3's.
