How to clean burnt glass?

I have a Sovereignty Recycler and on the male adapter where I put the dome and nail there has been a build up of burnt material. I have tried cleaning it with salt and iso and have soaked it in acetone but it will not go away!
Here is a pic:

I've had awesome luck with using 79867 First Street Heavy Duty Cleaner Degreaser from Smart & Final (use at full strength).

Maybe soaking overnight at full strength would remove the burn?

Have you tried PBW? I would try a strong, hot, extended soak of just the dark area, maybe scrub with a stiff brush.

I was gonna say the same thing.
I've had very similar looking deposits left in my Gnome WPA that wouldn't shift with ISO.
Torching the joint got rid of them perfectly.

However, having said that, A Gnome WPA is worth maybe $30.
On a $400-600 sovereignty piece, I'd probably avoid torching it... But it is an option if you're desperate...

Here's what I think is going on:
Joint gets hot -> glass expands -> oil/debris is "absorbed" into glass -> joint gets cold -> glass contracts -> oil is "trapped" inside

So yeah I can see why just torching it would fix it - simultaneously burns up the debris and lets it "escape" the glass. I think so long as OP does it slowly and doesn't just torch the shit out of one spot he should be okay this one time. Probably not a good idea to do it very often though.

If you're concerned it's best to use an adapter. Breaking or dirtying a $20 adapter is much easier on the heart (and wallet) than breaking or dirtying the joint on any piece of glass.

An adapter works great and should be used, especially with a domeless that fits in/on a joint but the best way to prevent this is regular cleaning and a steady hand with the torch. @FlyingLow you just got a quartz castle which has a drop in tube so just don't hit the joint with the torch and you will be fine.

To the op, if the glass has no cracks or nicks and you happen to know a glass blower, you can ask them to put it in their kiln for you, that's safer than using a torch because the glass will heat up evenly. I would only torch it as a last resort, just be careful not to pinpoint just the dirty spot and heat a larger area. Spend more time focusing on the stain to get it the hottest but the heat needs to spread out to avoid thermal shock.

Edit: I forgot it was a sov, you might lose your labels in the kiln.

Admittedly, I have always been intimidated by the whole torch-thing; it was not till I started using a lotus when I really opened up to torches and the idea of exploring oils/concentrates.

May I add some more comfort? The nail u went with does not require heating at the joint area. I do however use an adapter with the dewarr joint piece I have... just to keep the glass cool.

And im using a pretty good size torch on propane.
