Volute of Vapor
Hi guys, I didn't get any reply from my last pm's to RastaVapa....Is he really busy?

Yesterday evening was a Homegrown evening. I got to use it a lot and I still like it. I havent tried it with a water attachment and have solely used the wooden stem. I really like vaping thru wood, it gives a nice taste to it.

I am still figuring out what the best grind is and what the best amount and packing is. My current routine has a medium coarse grind and I use the stem as a straw to suck up the ground material. After that I kind of tamp it down mildly and make sure there is enough room to fit the stem over the heating element. After two draws I use tweezers (presented by Haze) to stir it up a little and tamp it down again with the back of the tweezers. I repeat this until the vapor production is getting wispy. Fully packed I get 6 to 8 really nice draws from it, they are not the biggest of draws though because I can't handle that :)

Cleaning, again I use the tweezers to loosen up the material and then I tap it out. To make sure it gets as clean as possible I use a little brush (thanks again Haze). I tried blowing the material out, but it went all over the place.

As I said, it fits perfectly with the Haze Dual, even the tools that came with the Haze Dual fit perfectly with the Homegrown, although I am going to look for plastic tweezers/poking tool because I don't quite like the metal on metal feeling I get with metal tweezers.

The performance is great. It is so convenient to have instant vapor production as soon as it has been warmed up. I really enjoy the experience and I really enjoy the differences between the Homegrown and the Haze Dual. It gives a whole different dimension to my hobby.

A few questions:

What kind of grind do you prefer?
How full do you pack it?
What is the prefered way of cleaning wood?
There was some kind of wax that came with the Homegrown. How much and how often do you need to apply it?

I generally use either a medium grind and fill about halfway up stem although you can use a whole bud just pushed in, the first draw is all flavour when using whole bud then you can just break it up and it starts giving loads after that. Personally I use flower ,hash and bubble all together and after first draw just give it all a little stir lasts ages .
I did make a prototype bowl stirrer which I sent out to slowdraw I am just seeing how it fairs and I will have them for sale with logs.
Cleaning the wood I use a pipe cleaner when warm and just re clean screen for a more involed clean up use acetone but the wood will naturally season as you use it more.

The hemp seed wood wax can be applied as often as you like as it makes the logs shine and protects the finish so no rules there I do mine around once a week and its on all the time.
Glad you are getting on with the HG as with all logs they do require a bit of practise and technique to get them firing nice ,def try to get a water piece to use it through opens up a whole new ball game and alot of folk who are into their logs use them through water including me, amazing what a tiny pinch of flower can fill a chalice multiple times....

Everyone on here can give you some good tips on using your log to its full potential enjoy practising ....

Ok, you busted me, it's a Dhgate peice. No option of label removal. Hopefully no one is too disappointed.
I very much like it......but not as much as my Homegrown Logs though!
My major is in vaporizers and minor in glass. :D

Quick question on the end f a session taste and flavor.
Does this vape also give you that popcorn taste towards the end of a session?
I used to get that with the Nano and the HI and am not a fan of that taste.

That is about all holding me back at the moment!
None of my daily drivers give me that taste and flavor and I am happy to not taste it again. Just wondering if it is a log vape trait or not?

Well that "popcorn" taste comes from your material and not from the Vape itself. Does the vape cause It? Perhaps. It might also be question of now far you take it(the load).
I say If you Vape at high temps you will get that popcorn taste from your material if you're vaping on a setting high enough to brown it.

That being said, my Volcano doesn't get my ABV brown even in high setting and even changes in taste, but that is a volcano and not a Log.
I really can't compare this Vape to your daily drivers if one of them is not a log.

So to answer your question, it is possible to achieve the popcorn taste if you Vape on the higher voltage end.

Thanks for that but maybe I phrased it incorrectly the first time. I know the popcorn taste is produced from the material and not the vape itself... I just want to find out if it is an every session taste at a set voltage or if you need to adjust the voltage to achieve it. I like higher temp vaping just not that taste.
For example:
Nano at 6 - first few hits are great and then the popcorn taste arrived at the same temp.
HI with VVPS - same deal as Nano. Set voltage and first few hits are great and then the popcorn at the same voltage.

I found no need to increase voltages or a higher setting on the analog dial to achieve the popcorn taste.

I ask because I really like the always on availability of a log. From the videos posted it seems as if the HGLogs produce a lot of thick vapor and was wondering if using the supplied power adapter I would get the popcorn taste using it as it is supplied.

So I guess my question is:
Using the HGLog as supplied, will I get the popcorn taste at the end of a load, using the standard power adapter? No increase of temp available with the standard adapter, so this would be my test for the HGLogs.
How dark does it roast the load using the supplied adapter? Meaning is it set hot enough using the supplied adapter to achieve the popcorn taste in a regular session?
I like to vape until the load is done at a set temp and then eject it, will this give that popcorn taste at the end even at a set voltage?

I loved my other logs and would love to own one again.
The collection of vapes i use at the moment do not give me the popcorn taste at any temp even when the load comes out very dark. This is why i am wondering if it is a log vape trait and if it is then i will step aside.

I use my nano around 6.5 - 6.75 ish (not that it means much) through water almost exclusively...
Small loads and gap between load and heater port. 2-3 hits (max) and its spent, no popcorn taste.

I always associate that popcorn taste with over-cooked loads and can get it from my air (and solo before that) and from my lotus if I push it too much or long, but find it hard to achieve from my nano.
Yeah, first hit after it's been left standing a while can be a bit too hot and char a bit, but that's nothing a good blow down the heater port (when I remember) doesn't solve.

Anyway, to stay on topic, I'm on the list  and have opted for an hourglass shape in Spalted Beechwood...

Can't wait :D

I share the same views on the pop-corn taste : toward the end, when it's get brownish you are getting it for sure but playing with load and voltage should help !
I also find that some strains/material, keep a better taste along the hits .. Being Lotus or logs, if I want to go taste-wise, I'll use a tiny load and probably grind it prior or after the 2 first light hits, in order to get an homogeneous abv ...
My friend always tell me they also get a "popcorn" taste with the Lotus after the first hits. I think it is down on technique also, as wrote in the previous sentence.

Also like @Slow Draw McGraw , except maybe from certain vapes like :Volcano, Verdamper, .. where you can't really control your heating on-time, I found it is possible to get that toasted taste with all the vapes I have tried and owned. Also those vapes which can give you large tasty-hits, simply require more load as well.. (vxl, ...) so simply extracting more at a set temp ?

Talking about HG : it's working wonderfully in a full extraction with the stock PSU voltage. What I would advice you @lazylathe is to try tiny loads under 12v .. You might have done it already, I don't know what represent level "6" on Enano..
Probably you would loose on intensity and rapidness of extraction though..

I just got my Blackwood HG log. I will give a proper review after I have spent some time with it but my first impressions are great. I was really taken back by the size as it is considerably smaller than the nano or most underdogs. I also really like how the stem fits nicely on the heater because of "the lip" on the cartridge heater. It fits snug but not tight and does not allow cold air to mix in when inhaling. The result is great vapor quality and very even extraction. I have used and owned a nano, underdog, and a heat island and it looks like this one can keep up and possibly do better than the most popular log vales currently on the market.

The one thing that did disappoint me was that the Underdog stems don't fit. There were no promises from Rasta so it's no issue with him but I was still hoping that I can repurpose some stems that I already own.

So this brings me to my question for the group. Does anyone know where I can get a glass stem in the US? I should have gotten some directly from Rasta but I was taking a chance that the UD stems would fit, which they do not. I'm trying to avoid having to have these small items shipped across the pond. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

All the glass that i ordered originally now does not fit the updated and current core diameter or its too tight so i am currently talking to a different glass man about some new stems and gongs , i should have a prototype in my hands next week to test and hopefully have them for sale within a few weeks but i will keep all of you posted as to how they fair.......

Only the few original logs i sent out will fit HI stems as the core is .6mm smaller
