Hijacked Member Account Posting Classified To Scam

maybe comments could be added to classifieds to help damage control. This would prevent multiple people buying one thing and some one could publicly ask for time stamp alerting the rest of the red flag asap
I was thinking that or maybe some kind of auto-moderation for that forum. The EE bot at least shows that there has been some reported rule violation in the comments, even if the post is not removed.

I have no idea how challenging that would be. Managing any bot or moderation add-on would be a lot of work. So it's probably not feasible. And I have never paid a dime to this site (although I would) or seen any advertising.

@Abysmal Vapor i would hope using online classifieds has grown since there arnt people stepping on toes and all that non sense as bad. With DM it happens any ways just easier to hide. I believe that’s why it was taken wasn’t it? You have some years on me here. People went wild Wild West over the post? I only think isn’t this a bigger issue, frients and community getting took in a site we’ve all loved and trusted for so long, that could be helped by having open conversation. Understandable to not release the wolfs in the house that will get the cats you got to catch the mice, end up with a bear eventually to get rid of the dog problem lol.
A mod would be nice, or a review stage for classifieds so they get looked at before public.
I thankfully have no breach in pws

One of the reason it was removed was due to the flamable discussions. They were experts on everypost ,commenting if the deal is good or not without having any interest to purchase, also guys low balling... I prefer it the way it is . Maybe a review of each post that makes the classifieds is a good idea, but it would cost legwork.
@Bing2UrBong You can get account disabled and your user named changed to deleted member number X ,but your posts and all the info you have shared in public remains.

That is very ez to fix/ignore, just bypass and read the useful comments - you can also ignore those ppl if you wish, if you see all they do is post up crap on for sale threads

Comments are extremely useful, I've sold on countless forums and never have been on a site that locks out comments on for sale threads. It's the most bizarre thing ever, send private messages when seriously 95% of real valid questions from real buyers only gives clarification for all potential buyers.

Things such as all OEM accessories included or oem charging cables or OEM packaging etc, are questions that get asked frequently.

Not sure where to post this question, but whats with all of the bots, like applebot, when I look at the list of viewers online? Are there bots taking a look at the posts on here, or trying to add posts?

I’ve been buying and selling on eBay for many years. As people have said PayPal now protects buyers at the expense of sellers. Fraudulent buyers are not common. But it happens enough that I’m no longer selling items worth significant dollars on eBay. Buyers can easily keep the item and get their money back including the shipping cost. But you can loose money other ways with PayPal: I lost over $100 paying for shipping to and from a buyer who said he couldn’t get something to work when the product was fine. But I’ve got several vapes to sell and this thread has helped me decide to use the shared tips and go ahead. Thanks

Solid question! The bots are web crawlers, basically they are a bot that's here to browse the forum, download content and index it so it can show up on a search engine. Googlebot for example is here to download content and index it for well...Google, Applebot seems to be Apple's web crawler for things like Siri. It's definitely weird seeing them in the members list but they aren't anything malicious.

Paypal is extremely risky for sellers. I refuse to sell via Paypal to anyone who is not a long time member here. I don't keep up with their rules but last time I checked a couple of years ago, buyers can claim empty box received or item not as described up to 180 days after the transaction! :cuss:
The reason Paypal does this because they make money out of it. Such claims give them excuse according to their own TOS to sit on a seller's money for 6 months, so they can skim off the interest during this period.

You can sometimes protect yourselff maybe by having lots of detailed photos/videos of item being pacakged and posted, receipts, etc but in the end Paypal can screw you anyway. I had an ordeal involving a 1000euro item once and am not repeating it.

To comment on earlier comments:

- I am 100% AGAINST bots and auto-moderation.

- I (in vein) propose: that comments are enabled in the Classified section;
and that we are allowed to edit our own posts.

The locking out of our own comments means I no longer share ideas as freely as I used to. I want to own my ideas and choose how long to leave them in the public domain for... especially when we know there are lurkers here who only come to leech so they can then commercialise other people's work. I don't know for sure it has happened but it seems likely going by what is available on the market today and what was being discussed here a couple of years ago. Of course there is reddit where this goes on much more but I don't use reddit or instagram, i only use FC.

I am not familair with the inner workings of the forum but if mods are able to see user edits, this removes the possibility of people editing their posts for devious purposes.

I agree, I don't use PayPal unless I absolutely have to.

Vape products are against PayPal tos.

Works fine if everything goes well, but if something was to happen, they will not back you if they realize it's about a vaping product. They will pretty much just end the whole dispute right their.

Is there a better option than PayPal though?

I don't buy and sell stuff personally anymore, so never had to use it, but yea seems like the only option for these types of transactions.
