Hijacked Member Account Posting Classified To Scam

I'm just following the FC classified rules. Are you gonna upload a pic with your username and date? I'll pm you my venmo but don't step to me like I'm being difficult.

Do you have any successful sales in the FC classifieds so I can see a satisfied customer?

Why say ppgs is included and then say you only take venmo? That's just suspicious and I don't see how it's my fault dude
I also think it is sketchy to change payment options after you start DMs. You might be totally trustworthy, but this is how people get burned. The internet isn't a place where we should give the benefit of the doubt even when the price is really good. :-)

I also reached out about these but backed out when the deal changed.

Edited to ask: Do mods take down posts that don't follow the rules? Seems reasonable to me given that the username isn't in the photos.

@Grass Yes If you want mods to handle something use the report button. Also this discussion is more for the shipping and ordering thread.
You can also use the search function if you need a background check.
@jerseydvd has joined back in 2013 had successful transactions ,but i agree he must abide forum rules and add a photo with date and username. We've had old user accounts hacked and sellers trying to scam in the classifieds,i think you can understand the precaution.

Good research, yeah, also before Jersey commented here, I had messaged him to tell him his listing needed username and date in the photo, they still have not made that update to the post, despite the comment here, and from what people are saying about messaging with him to buy, sounds like they are being pushed to just send money in a rush with short responses... I think many of us have reported the post by now, mods probably need to check in and research themselves, hopefully no one gets taken for this potential scam if it is indeed so! Yeah a bit off topic here, maybe it should be moved to its own disclaimer thread in Ask FC??

I told @FearAndLawyering it smelled the second he sent me the post.
I tried to put the mad face as a warning to others until the mods could respond. Too short in conversation with me as well. Too many ⛳⛳. Also, historically he used the correct timestamp for posting so it would not make sense he casually forgot when listing 2 P80s.

Thread 'Like new Dr Dabber Boost EVO $200 **REDUCED**' https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/like-new-dr-dabber-boost-evo-200-reduced.50904/

Sorry for adding to the junking of the thread over this. Maybe we can move this out to another.

I had a similar experience and got out of there.

Pressure to pay, lots of people in line waiting, etc.

I also recognized both from relatively recent EntExchange post and my request for verification photos and more detail was met with "I can send photos tomorrow".

SOLD! Whats problem?
The problem is people who make a living scamming other people, instead of finding something productive that they are good at. Thankfully in this case, the scammer appears to be very bad at the job of scamming.

Perhaps they will go try something that will benefit the world, instead of preying on their fellow humans.

Sociopaths have no fear. They do not care what others think of them (unless it involves being exposed, which would affect their ability to con further). A sociopath can do and say the MOST outrageous things, and then act like nothing ever happened when it is convenient for them. They are all different and they all do different things but examples would be:

  • Compulsive pathological lying (outrageous ridiculous lies)
  • Deception and manipulation (conning)
  • Cheating and infidelity
  • Living like a parasite
  • Faking ‘love’
  • Theft
It never occurs to the sociopath that the person that they are deceiving or cheating, has their own rights, and their own mind, and their own ability to make decisions for themselves. To the sociopath, what they need and want is most important of all.

Thank you for the all the reports, folks. While I can't confirm with absolute certainty at this point, it does seem very likely that @jerseydvd's account has been hijacked and used by a scammer. The account is now banned.

Hopefully no one got scammed here. If you did or know who did you can PM me.

As mentioned previously. It seems that scammers are targeting member accounts that use passwords that were leaked in data breaches around the web.

This is a good time to remind everyone to use a strong, unique password. Using the same password on more than one website is a bad idea. Two-factor authentication is a great tool if you're serious about securing your account. You can change your password and/or enable 2 factor authentication in the password and security section of your user account settings. You can check if your passwords were in any data breaches here: https://passwords.google.com/checkup/start?ep=1&pr=sa

Hopefully nobody lost money to this . FC Counter-scam force strikes again :D. Rules are there for a reason.
Also guys if you wanna get the mods attention it is best to use the report button or at least tag their accounts. Even when you want a post removed.I imagine "mods please delete" is not as effective as the report button.I imagine also that in order to locate such post they woud have to phrase search it. I sometimes even report posts like that,so they can get deleted, lol.

I had reported it long before I replied to the P80 thread. I was surprised that it wasn't removed for another 8 hours. But I suppose volunteers can't be our only protection on that forum, gotta use your own common sense. Like everyone said, I hope no one was actually scammed.

Well i bet it is hard to get 24h coverage on the forum, having in mind that all the mods are from the US. Watching out for each other has always worked, but i agree common sense and also the rules are there to protect us. Don't ever buy without pictures with username and date.

Thanks @Grass Yes, @Abysmal Vapor, and others for the heads up. Many red flags while I was in pm with the account holder's message writer (no idea if it was actually the person or not, though I have suspicions about that) and rather than make any accusations, I kindly suggested "skipping me in line" while there were "3 others waiting" and the pressure was on.

I personally found it unusual to require Venmo rather than PayPal G&S, which really is the only method I have trusted so far. It is good to know that these kind of encounters are welcomed as reportable; I never want to be an alarmist, but when it seems too good to be true, usually it is.

Hopefully no one got took. Those did seem familiar and not to that name. How do these passwords get acquired? Have any of the other accounts been retrieved and were given any explanation on what they thought happened?

P.s. I will never ask for anything other than PPGS and will even warn people that they have no buyer protection with friends and family or Venmo if they insist on it.

Edit- maybe comments could be added to classifieds to help damage control. This would prevent multiple people buying one thing and some one could publicly ask for time stamp alerting the rest of the red flag asap

I've been here for some time and i would say comments to sales threads were closed for a reason.I wont get into detail but opening them is a can of worms, believe me.
Also if you wanna be dead sure, use the two step verification.

Don't reuse old passwords ;)

You can download old and leaked databases of usernames and passwords from a few places
Scammers then throw the databases into automated software that will try to log in to websites with the old/leaked details and make a note of the ones that worked.

You can check if your account details have been leaked by using sites like this
I think google checks for you automatically if you use their password saver thing in Chrome

I'll chime in. I got took. I am fairly new and didn't realize that the price of one of those should have been way higher. I also noticed he was a long time member so didn't give it a second thought. Got his info, paid, drove home from work, then woke up to the note from the mods on it. I have used Venmo for purchases before now that they offer buyer protection and made sure that's how I sent the payment. Now I just have to see if their buyer protection is worth a damn, it should be fine since they are owned by PayPal but I have read it takes a while.
I used to buy and sell paintball equipment all the time but I guess being out of that for a long time has dulled my Spidey sense and scammers are getting better. Hopefully this doesn't end up being an expensive lesson and Venmo gets me back in a few weeks.
