Herb Grinders

I might do that. I'm curious about the titanium version too-some black and some with a purple hue. And you may well have the most logical explanation for the bottom off, upside down situation. Not only do I not have a better explanation, I don't have one at all.
Yeah. I'm kind of curious about the different colors also. Mine is purple.

Regarding the teeth hitting each other when I take off the bottom part and grind upside down, it only happens intermittently, and very seldom at that, but enough that it is a concern.

As for superb grind quality with the Cosmic, it uses the standard diamond shape for the teeth, the same as almost all aluminum grinders (the CNC Chromium Crusher and MnB have better tooth designs IMO), and the large holes certainly aren't good for a fine grind. So in my experience the Cosmic doesn't provide any real world performance you can't get from any number of grinders for half the price, and is below average for a fine grind, due to the size of the holes. The 1.5" 4 pc., which you'd think would have the smallest holes of their models, has as much open space (holes) in the bottom grinder section, as it does metal. Like SC, I find Cosmic to be a beautifully finished product, but that doesn't translate to any significant advantage in performance. I've also noticed that, unlike any other brand I've used, my Cosmic can't be converted from a 4 pc. to a 3 pc., since the threads don't line up.
Actually I disagree with most of what you said. First I am talking about 2 pc. grinders only, so who cares about the hole size because there are not any to be concerned about. I think we can all agree that for a fine grind your best bet is a 2 pc. I'd like to see all of the quality grinders for 1/2 the price of the medium 2 pc. Cosmic at 19.99, where are these high quality 9.99 grinders?

The Cosmic does provide a superior fine grind IMO because of one important feature that it has that most don't including Space Case, Mendo, Chromium Crusher and MnB.. All these others have their teeth arranged in a perfectly circular pattern with each tooth oriented in the same repeating pattern, where the Cosmic has each and every tooth in a different specific rotation and location, this design allows it a superior grind because your herb is being cut at many different angles with every twist. Look closely at all your grinders teeth arrangement and you'll see what I am talking about.

I think that's a bit of a stretch, DF. I guess what you say would be true if your bud stayed in the exact same orientation to the teeth as you grind, but your bud is always moving around in the process and is getting hit by the teeth at different angles, even if the teeth are all aligned.

Yeah, would some SC expert please let me know why my "black" titani 2 piece and my "black" titani 4 piece are both purplish... while my second black 2 piece is actually black. Mysterious, and annoying as I hate the purples now, despite them being such great grinders.

The Ti Space Case, have actually seen about 4 color variations since they were first brought onto the market. Right before the "black" units came out, the comapny was putting out the "puple" colored ones, there are even a few (I.M.O the best colored ones) gun metal units out there.

There were constant problems with the anodizing process, when trying to get the color's to match up evenly, and consistantly with the "purple". In some instance's, the color was not even through out an entire piece, causing units to not pass quality control. Which lead to a lot of waste. So the choice to go with a darker color, which could be controlled easier was made by the company.

Oh and that sales@spacecasecutlery.com is a dead address.

Anyone that has an issue with there Space Case grinders, and needs to turn it in for warranty, should go to where ever they purchased it from.

so i just got a sharpstone grinder and it works great.
The only problem i have with it is that when im trying to grind my herb really fine and grind while its one its side (to keeep the herb from going in the holes) it seems to someheow get inbetween the cap and the bottome around the sides. so sometimes it makes a squeking noise. is there any way of preventing this?

Lube it up with some heavy engine grease. NOT
To grind really fine you need a 2 piece grinder.

SC should call purple "purple" and black "black". Calling "purple" black sucks.

Odd colour, great grinder.

My "black" 4 pc is actually a weird cross between purple and gun-metal. Sold as "black", naturally!

MFLB users, how do you grind your herb?

My old woody grinder was not grinding my herb fine enough when I started using my MFLB, so I bought a fancy new Sharpstone grinder down at the local shop. It doesn't grind my herb fine enough either, though I like it a lot because it has a kief box. So now I grind my herb once in the sharpstone, then put the ground herb in a mortar and pestle and smash it into something approaching dust, then pour it back into the sharpstone to store until I load it.

Does anyone else know of a better method? I am getting great results here but I am always in search of a better way to get Launched. It's time consuming grinding, then mortaring, etc, but if I grind up a significant amount of herb then I'm set for a few days.

Best of all I don't really notice the missing kief which has dropped down into the Sharpstone's kief box!

^^ Get a good 2pc grinder rather than a 4pc. Then, you can grind it as fine as you want without going to the trouble of taking your grinder apart and turning it upside down and you then get all the kief with each hit.

If you don't feel like reading all of this, just check my two questions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had never used or even held a grinder before. After reading this thread I felt much more educated about what I was looking for. Since then, I ran into a couple problems with my first grinder. I need some advice/clarifications.

I received a free 4 piece CNC grinder with my purchase of a Launch Box. The grinder came with a small ring sitting between the housing of the top and bottom part of the two grinders. I don't know what the material of this ring is but the two pieces of the grinder, responsible for grinding the herb, slides pretty easily over it.

When I first got the grinder, I washed it, ground up some paper towel, then used Qtips dipped in iospropyl to wipe off any dust. That way I would know if anything was coming off of the unit after a few dry grinds.

I dry-ground the unit, over a paper towel, without the ring. I noticed that there were small flakes of metal coming off of the grinder because I could see them on the paper towel. It seems the teeth on the top and bottom were touching the opposite sides of the casing. I decided to go through the entire washing process again and put the ring back on. I figured the ring is necessary.

On my second attempt, with the ring on, I did the dry grind above a paper towel. This time there were no flakes. I was pleased but I thought it was a little strange that I needed this ring. I decided to be thorough and do a wipe down of the casing with a Qtip dipped in isopropyl and was dismayed to see grey dust on the Qtip when I wiped the area where the upper and lower casings meet.

1. Is it normal to have to use a ring to separate the upper and lower grinder?

2. Is it normal to have a small amount of metal dust come off of the grinder, where the housings meet?

If I haven't been clear, please ask. I'd rather not have to buy an expensive grinder but I will if the concensus is that I have a crapper grinder, I will. Thanks everybody!

The ring is usually made of teflon and allows smooth rotation of the upper and lower halves.
I can't speak for number 2, but I'm guessing it should not be making metal dust.

The ring is needed to space the teeth from the top and base, without the ring the teeth hit causing them to grind into the aluminum housing. Always leave the ring on, just make sure all the metal bits are out of it and you should be good to go. In general any grinder you get for free won't be the best quality.

I am guessing the ring on mine is either plastic, rubber or silicone.

That is what mine feels like too. However, all the manufacturers say it is teflon :/?

^That link you provided states it is a nylon gasket... Strange.

Should I worry about that dust? There isn't much and it collects outside of where I put my herbs but I would rather not inhale it. Do all grinders produce the same results?

I haven't got my new vape (MZ) yet, and I've never vaped before; longtime toker. My question is: how fine should I grind, small discrete pieces (1/16-1/32"), 1/32-1/64") or finer, almost to a dust? I have no idea as to what's too large or too small, and I don't want to waste precious herb trying to find out. I realize that this is a somewhat nebulous question. I would think that if I grind to a dust or close to a dust, it won't pack and hold in the MZ stem properly. So I'm thinking grinding into small discrete pieces (1/16-1/32"). I feel that small pieces this size would be sufficient to pack up well in the stem and provide sufficient surface area to properly extract the vapor.

I currently have a high quality German Krups small electric coffee grinder, I'm thinking about using it in place of a hand grinder. I've read that the electric grinders grind too fine and strip off the pollen, and then some others say that they work just fine. The electric grinder would make very small pieces very quickly, maybe too quickly, and you'd overshoot the fineness. I don't want to get a hand grinder if I don't have to.

If I did want to go for a hand grinder then I have decided on a Chromium Crusher 4 piece for around $24.

Any comments or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Have a GREAT DAY. :D

I would say that for this style of vape, I grind until the consistency of pencil eraser dust (the bits of eraser left over after erasing something).
