Herb Grinders

I have tried Cosmic grinders from the company, but did not like those at all.
I could not bring myself to gain any interest in the Cosmic Super Shredder.
No matter how I look at it, and no matter what mock-up I draw out, it just looks way to gimmicky for me.
Who can blame all these guys for trying. They see Space Case having permanent steady sales, and they see SCS making a big dent in the market and good money, and they want a slice of the pie.
Hopefully, someone will pull the trigger on this grinder before long, and tell us what they think.

I was about to buy a small 2 piece Santa Cruz shredder off their site... until I saw they charge $10 to ship... within the same State! Does anyone know of a less expensive way to buy this product? Only SCS units I can find on Amazon are 4 piece ones.

Check out the supporting retailers here: http://fuckcombustion.com/forums/supporting-retailers.19/
Some carry scs and offer a discount which could offset shipping costs.

Hello, new to FC, appreciating everyone's input. I've been searching for the best grinder out there as my current Kannastor is giving out on me, not that it wasn't good. I had my eyes set on a mendo mulcher for awhile but didn't quite need a new grinder, and now that I do I found the Santa Cruz shredder after some research. I was convinced and the large 2.75in I thought was the perfect size for me. I ordered one a few days ago and awaiting its arrival. Right after I ordered the SCS I stumbled upon the Sharp Shredda Grinder, and this thread. I never got impression the ssg was better than the SCS and two inches is borderline for me, but perfect for some. But the reviews I've read of solid construction, ease of use, and innovative design got to me and I ordered one of these as well. Ill have them both in the next few days and ill happily report back with my thoughts for anyone on the fence about either of these. I thought for 35 bucks I at least wouldn't mind giving a smaller grinder company my business and a shot at competing and improving on their product.
Still very much interested in what other owners quirks with it may be. Especially appreciated the engineer with the models, what other conclusions have you come to with put ssg? Thanks all,
Alix

I gotta check out this thread more, that Medtainer a few pages back looks really great in particular. If it was UV light protected like the Cooljars line I would be particularly interested.

Just wanted to give a quick 2 cents about the cheapo electric grinders we find online, now that I've tried both kinds. Let's call my new one grinder A.

grinder_electric_1.gif

It's made on a flashlight body if that's not clear from the photos, and is made from a lightweight aluminum. It runs on 3XAAA which is obviously more of a pain than AA cells, but the motor is quite relatively and I was honestly surprised at the apparent build quality once I had it out of the box. It has a toggle switch with no pulse option. I had previously owned the grinder pictured here, let's call it Grinder B.

grinder-electric-herb.jpg

As you can see in photos they appear to share the same blade, the same post, the same cup, likely the same motor. Grinder A however has a wave design to the plastic of its cup while Grinder B did not. Grinder B lasted me roughly 18 months of near daily use before the motor gave up the ghost. Grinder B can be pulsed or toggled, which is nice. It feels, and looks, much cheaper than Grinder A. Grinder A's cup threads onto the aluminum less smoothly than it did onto the plastic threads of grinder B. I liked the ergonomics of grinder B a little more but it's a moot point, both are comfortable and require little strain on the user. Just hit the switch and gently shake. Grinder B uses more common and inexpensive AAs.

Both can be had for under $5 delivered if you hunt around a bit on sites like Aliexpress. If you suffer pain in your hands while grinding then I definitely recommend either of them, just know they won't last forever.

I had the large 4-piece Space Case which I used for a couple of years and loved it. Recently acquired through the Mass Drop sale a 4-piece large SCS.

As much as I enjoyed the SC, I have to say the SCS is definitely the better grinder/shredder. :2c: It shreds exactly the consistency I like to use for my Cloud & Ascent. Quality is easily as good as the SC & it is actually easier to use than the SC.

My only gripe (and it's a small one) is that I wish the large SCS was a bit bigger. I have no problem using it, but I have big hands and would love a little larger version. If the "Jumbo" ever ends up on Mass Drop, I'll make the move to the "larger" large size. :)

Hey peeps I wanted your guys opinion. I havent heard back from SCS in over a month and was going back and forth with them last month about my SCS via email.
I asked if they thought after 5-6 months of use if I shouldve had any wear and tear like paint chipping and they said no.

Does any of your SCS look like this, and do you think this is normal for 6 months of regular use.
My camera isnt the best its a BB but yeah they just stopped responding to me. I think thats a bit uncool and thought you guys should know since I got the SCS idea from here, and I love the product but didnt like that they wouldnt answer me when I asked where do I send it to them so they can have a first hand look if there are any defects. I offered to pay toship it to them as well to check out. I mean its not MAJOR but I thought it was worth bringing up since I paid good $ for it.

Anyways you guys decide.

I received my Sharpe Shredda yesterday. I like it. The grind is not as course as my no name grinder from puffitup.com or my 2 inch Cosmo case grinder not as fine as the Kannastor 1.5inch.

This little thing is great on the hands, much easier for me to use with my neuropathy then any other grinder I have tried. I do recommend it for anyone that has a problem gripping any other grinder. So if you have painful or numb hands and sometimes find grinding a bit difficult and still want to hand grind your Herb try out a Sharpe Shredda You may find it works for you. I am very happy with this purchase it is what I was looking for.:peace:

I feel the PIU noname 3/4 piece grinds too fine unless the bud is super moist. I dislike this. Have you used the SCS and if so can you compare these 3 units (SCS, PIU, SS)?

TIA!

This is exactly why I DIDNT want a colored/coated unit. I was afraid of that very thing, so I picked the plain silver (aluminum) finish when I ordered my small SCS over the weekend.

I'm wondering where that green coating went? Do you water filter?

@Caligula I haven't used a SCS so I can't be of any help with that. Maybe there are different PIU's through the years but mine doesn't grind as fine as my giant chromium crusher or tiny Kannastor or MFFG I guess judging the grind is kinda subject to what I've used.

Only my Kannastor or magic flight finishing grinder give me an fine kief like grind that I like in the LB or Palm 2.0 but the Sharp Shredda seems perfect,at least with the bud I have right now for my other vapes( TVape , Davinci, PN, NO2, WISPR, Volta, VG, Lithe).

You know that the "plain silver" is clear anodized right? You can have exactly the same problem but it will be more hard to notice.

http://santacruzshredder.com/product/large-2pc-silver/
Two brands I've bought where the anodizing holds up and doesn't even show scratching (unless you take a metal object and dig at it) are MixnBall (no longer available) and Titan (available on eBay). My small SCS 2 piece (gunmetal) hasn't shown any shiny either, but I haven't used it a lot either. Anodizing, for the most part, is overrated with grinders. My MixnBalls, in particular, don't get gummed/stickied up as easily, but the process doesn't make 'em grind better or last longer (at least in real world terms).

Man thats totally a bumber sorry to hear that. An no my green SCS is perfect, I am not a heavy user but from everything I have heard they hold up good. The finish seems really hard to me. Not cool that they didnt help you out....

From everything I have heard you actually want it to be anodized which makes complete sense to me, if done right it is much harder than aluminum so the chances of flakes would be minimized.

Titanium is a lot harder than aluminum too but look at the issues people are having with the Ti coated SC grinders.

Yeah Im worried Ima die now cuz my SCS is chipping and I think it will go in the bud. Do you think I should stop using it? I have an unused volcano grinder i might start to use if it really is unsafe to use the SCS now.
