Herb Grinders

I'm looking for a grinder that will collect the most kief (yes I know this is taking away from my herbs). I was at a friend's house once and I saw him grind up a gram with an empty kief chamber. I was shocked when I checked again after he had grinded the bud. There was more in there than I usually get from say 2-3 grinds. So basically, I would like a grinder that grinds it down nicely but catches a good amount of kief at the same time. Price is not so important, just that I am getting the most and best quality for my money. I personally love pure kief hits. Am I looking at buying a Spacecase? Or is there something else that will collect just as much? Thanks.

If your wanting Kief, I'd suggest going with a silk screened pollen box.

If you insist on a grinder, go with Space Case or Cosmic Case.

Also, if you put your bud in the freezer for about 20 minutes prior to grinding, it will help youto extract more kief.

Well, kief is my main priority but I would like something that I can carry around with me (in my pocket, mostly) and while the boxes may seem the most practical for my intention, the size may be a bit too much. So basically, I am looking for the "best" grinder: best at grinding to a fine consistency, but more importantly collecting a fine amount of kief. Perhaps I am looking at that Mix-N-Ball with 3 screens or the Spacecase Scout I think it's called? If you know of something better from your experience please let me know. Thanks all.

Well with that said; Go with the Space Case, scount grinder sifter.

1.Storage and small enough to go in your pocket.

2. Same standard sharp teeth, as found in other Space Case grinders.

3. Perfect size for gridning up small portions on the go.

4.Fine mesh screen, for collecting the powdery goodness.

5. Its a Space Case, why would you want anything else? :D

Ok maybe im kinda partial on that last statement.

Although some people can take pride in their $100 space case grinders, most will concede that they grind as well as some of the $20 grinders. I have a $20 Aerocase, and it has a nice large section to hold ground bud and a screen to collect kief. My brother has a Sharpstone. A friend has a Chromium Crusher. All of us have excellent kief production from grinding. Space case will buy you some slightly better finishing, but not better efficacy.

Mix N Ball is also a good name brand. Mendo Mulcher as well. Kelly makes some great CNC grinders - find his store on ebay "Kelly's green products". Absolutely no reason to spend the money for SpaceCase unless you want an ego reward gloating over having the most expensive herb grinder.

Whoa there. I have a Small Titanium 2pc SpaceCase that cost me about 21 bucks which is hardly an ego reward for buying the most expensive grinder. But lets say I bought a large 4pc ti for 100 bucks. There is such a thing as pride of ownership of something that is extremely well machined to extremely high tolerances. Sometimes, the enjoyment of owning what you feel is the best has nothing to do with price but just the enjoyment of how it feels in your hands.

Derf, I just don't think that that condescending slap to all those that may enjoy owning a SpaceCase is justified.

Lwien, said it much better than I.

:)

Plus I was suggesting(based on his needs) that he look into the Space Case scout grinder/sifter. I dont believe ANY other company currently offers that as an option.

1. Airt tight Storage. With a secured screw top. Great for travel, or tossing in your pocket.

2. Precision cut teeth for griding.

3. An are for collecting kief.

4. No where NEAR $100.00

I know Sharpstone doesn't make a unit like that. Nor does Chromium Crusher. I doubt Mix-n-Ball does, as they are all but done as a company/product.

its even got a locking top
If you even get the damn thing. Don't be a moron. MNB does not deserve anyones business until they prove otherwise.

If you're happy with a grinder like "Aerocase" (I think you mean Aerospace) or other inexpensive brand (and I've had no issues with bargain priced grinders from a good source either), I don't know why you'd be recommending more expensive ones like MnB (a real mixed bag as far as prices) or Mendo. And Kelly's CNC grinders (it's Kelly GREAT products, not GREEN) are far from being a bargain. I can match his 63mm 4 pc. ($45 w/shipping), quality wise, with a $15 Sharp Crusher.

That would be the official forum position as well. There's no reason to be demeaning.

Good quality yes, and removable/switchable screens are nice, but $120? I bought this same model a couple of years ago for $60. I like their $30 and under models. The others are too pricy IMO.

No, it's not. But you should clean any grinder you buy before using. ISO and a toothbrush does the job. Pay special attention to the magnet, which will tend to attract any leftovers from the manufacturing process.

Edit; Yea, what max said. I replied before readin his response.

No. But some grinder's I.E Cosmic Case, Space Case and Sharpstone, are sanitized after the maching process is complete. So technically, you could just apply a dry cloth to remove any dust and be ready to go.

However Chromium Crusher does not sanitize their units, and often times maching grease is left on the inside of the units.

Most quality grinders are aluminum so nothing would be attracted to the magnet (except the opposing magnet) with the exception being the ferrous alloy Crusher.

the crusher is now aluminum isnt it?

did sharp stone fix their metal shavings problem?

I guess its kinda silly to take the ebay discription as fact but does the chromium crusher have a non stick coating?

The only non aluminum metal grinder I can think of is the original steel/zinc Chromium Crusher, but since I've seen more than one new grinder with tiny metal bits sticking to the magnet, I'd say it's worth checking on a newly purchased one. After all, grinders aren't produced in a 'clean room'.

They didn't change to aluminum only. They just added a new model. The CC aluminum version is all CNC, much lighter weight, with a lot fewer teeth, and fewer, but larger holes. Personally, I like the 'fewer teeth' design. It's easier to load, and I've found little to no difference in the grind consistency.

Now though, you can't find the aluminum Crusher anywhere unless someone has one that's been sitting on the shelf collecting dust. No idea what the deal is but it looks like the CC is back to steel/zinc alloy only.

I bought a Sharp Crusher that's similar to the aluminum CC. I actually prefer it to the CC, due to the very slightly larger mesh on the screen, and it's cheaper as well-2.5" 4 pc. for $15, including shipping. It's sold by merchants-wholesale on eBay and the site linked below as well, where it's slightly cheaper (the $15 buy). Unlike most grinders, the o-ring is removeble (for cleaning), but it is necessary for grinding. I've found myself using this model a lot and I think it's the best buy in a 4 pc. I've found. The Aerospace brand sold by vapeworld is also a good deal (especially with FC discount), although one that I bought as a gift for someone last year had really rough threads. Didn't cause any problems-just a little aggravating during cleaning.

A coating means it's anodized, and it's not non stick, just less stick. I love the anodizing on MixnBall grinders-it's scratch proof unless you try to dig into the metal. Not sure how well anodizing holds up on all other brands, but the 4 pc. Space Case I bought had a good sized spot on the top edge that ran into something hard, and shiny aluminum was showing. Had to get it replaced by the vendor.

yeah now that you mention it... the sharp is a much better deal % wise... not much $ difference but still....

all these brands with similar names...

are they all made by the same guys and stamp different names on it?

sharp stone, chromium crusher, sharp crusher, they all sound the same...

i have a sharp stone and the only problem iv had was the little plastic thing that the grinding teeth sits on so its not just on metal broke. still works though iv also never had any metal shaving issues even without the plastic washer type thing.

someone told me that with really sticky bud the teeth can break, i dont see how though.

Finally broke down and bought a 2 pc space case to try after falling for their storage containers. I've been doing some comparisons with a few diff strains and a few diff vapes.

Compared to my 4 pc CNC'd from Kelly's on ebay the Space Case is able to produce a much finer grind than my 4pc even holding it upside down. The 4pc however is able to collect quite a bit of kief so it's a trade-off depending on needs.

During testing I added kief back when using the 4pc. The SC grind is much more appreciated by my LB. I also notice more clouds with both the PD and the IO. With the LB I basically skip a vape/re-crumble step since the grind is so much finer to start. This weekend I shall try the finer grind in the SSV. I have a feeling the screen in the SSV not be fine enough for the SC grind.

The 4pc grind is fine for the PD or IO and I've used for many months happily but I'm finding the finer grind does produce more surface area in my opinion.

Lo, glad you like your 2 pc space case; I'm enjoying mine as well. I didn't get the titanium; just the $20 aluminum which works great. Since I dry material before grinding I doubt stickiness will ever be much of an issue. For me I like the space case when grinding a small amount. When I'm grinding a larger amount I use Ed's 4" wood grinder. To my eyes I get identical results using both.
