I’m honestly really surprised by this. I know @Alexis hated the NV grinder because it was two piece and needed to brushed but said they loved The Gr8tr V2.
The tiny teeth on the GR8TR aren't much trouble for a brush. Two piece grinders have much taller teeth that would make it a pain to brush out.

Hey I am sorry bro, I have been meaning to add some more thoughts on the Gr8tr. Indeed the NVFG was just too much hard work for me for frequent use, not least of all for the reason you mention.

And I do actually agree with you on the Gr8tr being another BITCH to get all the weed out each time. Im kind of OCD about that and dont like to leave 10-15% left behind in the grinder, even if that way (never brushing it all out) you could argue the same amount remains behind on subsequent grinds, and more of what goes in comes out each time.

But strains get mixed and that isnt my preferred way either. So I brush out each time.

I was quite disappointed how much fiddling and concentration it was still taking with the Gr8tr. I didnt use the coarse plate for weeks and when I did try it it fixed the issue entirely for me. 100% of herb falling through plate no brushing needed, easy and tidy as pie.

However, what I love about this grinder is the fineness and even consistency, and the incredible extraction I can now get so easily with all my vapes and strains, more easily, consistently and predictably than before.

I didint get this to the same degree with the coarse plate, and my vaporizers became normal vapes again, my weed bacame normal cannabis once more lol!

So now I am happily harassing my ass to empty all of the herb out of the Gr8tr, knowing that im getting a much better experience and usage of my Herb and vapes.
I do also find that a lot of the time there is more herb which does not go through the plate and has to be brushed out, than what falls through the holes into the container below.

But this doesn't matter at all from a result point of you because the Grind is equally fine and perfect from the top of the plate with maybe a few slightly coarser chunks or bits of leaf.

I always hold the plate upside down over a card when I empty it to brush it out so that the herb does not fly into the air and all over the place so I can scrape it's all up afterwards, and save every bit.
It is a pain in the ass but I understand that this is what I must do for the results I now enjoy and I guess I can deal with this trade-off for the meantime. Sorry to have miseled ypu or anyone else. Did you see @lazylathe 's new thread on VLF? The new "Diamond Cut Grinder" looks super dope I want one damn you Lazy!

Almost there...
@Alexis

The way I empty my GR8TR is once I empty the herb chamber, I invert the middle section and knock the herb chamber and middle section together. This knocks out all of the bud, even from the holes but will also dent the outside...
Or just place the middle section upside down on a plate and brush it out in a neat circle.
It is a pain to clean but that fine grind...

I picked up the SWII a few weeks ago as an impulse buy and got a Kannastor Gr8tr V2 a couple weeks later. I love the SWII. It is super easy to turn, I love the quarter turn threads, and the grind works great with the Flowerpot.

The kannastor I’m not loving so much. I have never had so much weed get stuck in a grinder like I do with the Kannastor. I have to constantly brush it out and clean the teeth on both medium and fine plates. It drives me nuts. I have tried different weed through it, let the weed dry out overnight, etc but it just seems like the Gr8tr wants to steal my weed from me. I get at least half a Flowerpot bowl worth of weed stuck to the to teeth. Does anyone else notice this?

Cheers on the SWII. Mine is currently my most often reached for grinder (of those you see in my signature).

I feel you on the GR8TR needing a bit more of a detailed clean after grinding, but I ALWAYS brush out the top section of my grinder with a brush as soon as I've finished twisting/grinding. I spend the 30 or so seconds it takes to do that before I even open the grinder to get at my herb. I do it every time with every one of my grinders (my grinders stay cleaner, longer).

So, that slight weakness of the GR8TR isn't really noticeable to me.

The biggest weakness with my GR8TR is that the damn center grinder plate can come unscrewed during grinding. But I also can't over-tighten it, or it's a pain in the ass to get loose again...and when it unscrews, it doesn't work right and it's a lot more work to clean up so that those threads are clean again, lest the plate get stuck.

But, I have a V1. Does the V2 have something that locks the plate in placebetter?

Bit the bullet and ordered myself a Steely Dan 49mm 4 piece steel grinder, they don't take card payments though which is annoying.
Review in probably a week or so.

I have seen some mention of the OTTO in this thread wanted to report in I own one myself.

I actually enjoy it it can be messy yes but I just brush it down every use with this coffee/espresso brush I own.

I can do a write up with some pictures maybe a video if people want to see, there are a couple videos on YouTube of the OTTO but a lot of them on their on garbage and it's like people don't understand how to use the thing so I wouldn't search that up because the ignorance might turn you away.

I had my eyes on the Chewy for awhile but when I saw videos "Now This" and stuff pop up on my feeds of the OTTO it excited me the talks of how it sensed the density of material and adjusted the grind accordingly which seems to actually function like that because every grind it has done for me thus far has been pretty uniform.

The cone loader thing it came with is a nice addition as well it has made me a believer in pre rolled cones (Illegal State) but it makes a cone more perfect than I could with my hands and I am a pretty adept roller.

I didn't pay full price for mine got a 710 day sale originally the OTTO sits at $129.99 I believe, I purchased mine at around $20 bucks cheaper $110 and some change.

I was mainly a blunt/cigar wrap smoker but recently I have been using some King Palm Minis as I am trying to cut back on all tobacco entirely as I don't even partake in Cigs so I figured I can get away from Tobacco wraps as well but I am a die hard Swisher user never really like joints as I thought the way they burned wasn't as good but after a joint from the OTTO man it burns even at a good pace sometimes you don't have to keep relighting the thing like how some joints keep going out it doesn't put out a lot of smoke from the tip.

This is just a small summary but I can go a bit in depth like I said with some pictures and stuff as well, but note I no longer have any sort of manual grinder to compare grinds with I've been using my fingers before the OTTO or some scissors.

I've used a few electric grinders, but I've never used one that I thought could rival my manual grinders.

I need the tactile feedback to know when I'm putting the grinder together to find the right place for the teeth to go, and I will turn it with different levels of pressure depending on what I'm feeling going on inside when I grind. An electronic grinder is usually, just put it together and brute-force it in such a way that takes away my ability to use technique to get the grinder to produce the grind that I want it to.

Whats the forum's favourite low budget grinder with a kief catcher ?
What sort of grind are you looking to get from it? Most cost effective grinders will be in the coarse to medium grind, the SWII (just picked one up) is nice for the price, but is fairly coarse by my standards......

Until now I use the S&B orange plastic grinder.
It gets the job done and I dont have any chipping.

Thing is I am losing my kief. It gets stuck and cant be removed. No kief screen in this one unfortunately.

So I am looking for an inexpensive S&B kinda grind with kief collecting chamber.

Thoughts?

Could you post a picture of your ground up material so we can see what you're targeting?

There aren't many cost effective options for a fine grind 4 piece if that's what you're looking for. If you're OK with a coarse grind Chromium Crusher has been maintaining decent reviews for a while and is a wallet friendly brand.

Also, it's worth noting, 2-piece grinders in general make it easier to get a fine grind than 4-piece grinders as there's no relief from the pass through holes.

I have been turning the SWII upside down when I grind and am getting a very fine grind.

I want a good 3 piece grinder. I hate kief screens I feel like they rob my weed of goodness. I’d rather Vape it all now vs saving kief for later. Who has the best 3 piece grinder? Something with a deep enough bottom that weed doesn’t go flying everywhere trying to get it out.

You can remove the screen, it's only held in magnetically.

I will have to look into the scs 3 piece.

But then it’s a pain in the ass to get the weed and if I take out the middle section with the screen the bottom is to shallow and weed flies out when try to grab some.

I normally had used my SLX 2.0. Used it often without screen and did a lot of grinding upside down for finer grinds. But I always go back to my S&B small plastic grinder too. It gives up an excellent grind very quickly. I use a couple different brushes to wipe out the keif quickly after grinding.

Till now, no other grinder seems like what I want for a metal 2 or 3 piece.......until I have seen the Brilliant Cut/Stona/Diamond Cut one. Hopefully they will have it completely tweaked and the design finished. So far it shows the best performance out of any I have seen yet.

Hi.
Not sure this is the place for this question- but while I understand multiple vapes, I was wondering why folks use multiple grinders? I have experience with 2, and when I had the option of the one I currently use that has a hand crank I converted exclusively over in large part due to my hand problems/pain, but also due to my common Dex fails! I am also considering the MF finishing grinder however. Thanks!

Here are some reasons:
1) Some vapes like fine grinds, some medium, some coarse. Different grinders grind different consistency.
2) Different sized grinders for needs - some people need larger ones because they grind more at once, and vice versa.
3) Just as you like to use hand crank one, people with arthritis, dexterity issues want to find one that works best for them.
4) sometimes a 2 piece grinder does the trick, sometimes you may want 3 or 4 piece (to sift or not to sift...that is often the question)
5) GAS. Grinder Aquisition Syndrome. One is never enough. Two is better. Five...

Edit: woo hoo, just posted my 420th comment!

Thanks. I think the part I keep forgetting is where you mention different vapes needing differing grinds, or someone needing more then one size.
