Hahaha, Oh the joys of ordering from abroad :bang:
I was able to pick up my Compton grinder from the local delivery office today...

But ordering through Massdrop has ended up costing me way over the UK price

Total price = £52.85

£30.81 to Massdrop
£22.04 to HMRC

I'm sure I've said it before, but never again lol :p

I'd still like to get a Santa Cruz Shredder too.
I wish we had deals over here like you guys get in the U.S. :)

There's not a lot to say really and I don't have much to compare it to apart from an old cheap 5-piece silver Pollen Blitz it's replacing and the Compton is of a much higher quality.

Is there anything in particular you wanted to know?
I'll do my best and hopefully I don't miss anything...

I really like the grips on the top and bottom.
It's well made with good tolerances and no obvious flaws or scratches.
The top turns very smoothly and the magnets are nice and strong and hold it together well.
The teeth are sharp, diamond shaped, and chop through stems with ease. The grind is finer than the pictures above in the Santa Cruz (my bud is nice and slightly crisp right now though and barely needs grinding anyway so that may make a difference).

I checked the kief screen from the Compton Grinder under the mic in work and it measures 250 microns which is larger than the fine screen in my old grinder so I may look at getting a finer one at some point.

Overall it's a very nice grinder (not worth £50+ though lol  )

I wonder what those Kannastor Vape GR8TR ones are like....

[edit]
Having the loading area is actually pretty good..
If you use it as intended, you're not overloading the grinder and little round pieces don't just fall straight though the holes.

Oh, and I love the colour :p

I need to buy a new grinder and need some advice .
I think it comes down to the SCS and the Space Case . Maybe .
I mainly need to know which is the easiest to use as I have bad problems with my hands .
I have been using the free grinder from PIU and its not bad . But I would like to upgrade .
And any sales or discounts would be great as well .

You will definitely want the Santa Cruz then, since it provides more torque for the same amount of bud you need.

I got the space case then the Santa Cruz, but really regret getting the SC before doing my research here. It really does make a difference, even though both are cream of the crop.

The mendo mulchers have been singled out in this forum as having a particularly good grip, and reportedly they mulch/shred/grind/whatever pretty good too. Maybe search this thread for testimonials.

I was just checking out the Mendo . They are not as easy to get .
And @Odyssey I was also looking at the 3 piece SCS .
Both look good can't decide ........
Thanks for the tips !

I was into mendos but I prefer grinders with an anodized finish. This not to just make them pretty the coating also keeps black aluminum smudges from getting all over your hands. If you use a mendo just make sure you look in the mirror before you head out so you can wash the black smears off your hands and face from using it. :2c:

After reading a bit more I'm going to try the SCS 3pc and see what happens .

I've just started using my Compton. It is VERY heavy and large compared to the same size SCS. I'm not sure I like it. Because of the weight it's also harder on my hands when I grind. My other grinders are the 3 piece SCS and 4 piece from PIU. I need more time with the Compton but I think I prefer those.

Please tell me the SCS is a nice step up from the PIU.

How many of you only use your grinder right side up?

I always go upside-down and fine.

Until recently I only used my 4pc right-side up but found that the finer grind achieved by an inverting it in addition has improved the efficiency of my vape and provided a more complete extraction as evidenced by a very consistently dark AVB. I think it may improve flavor a bit as well, but strength of taste is so variable for me I wouldn't bet on it. I really do seem to get a little more out of the bud. though. It's definitely significant. The fine grind wouldn't have made as much sense with the EQ, but it's great for the EVO.

When I have to replace the grinder I have currently I'll probably just go for a 3pc since I'm not really interested in separating kief any more. That hasn't really made sense since I started vaporizing but I just didn't think about it when I bought my current grinder, a Sharpstone that I like (the teeth are more similar to the blue rather than the orange SCS above, I believe).

At the luxury level of grinders (SC, SCS, Mendo, Cosmic, etc.), you can't really go wrong with any grinder. Most important is that you pick a color that you like, based off that instinctual gut feeling. Most stores do not allow you to return paraphernalia that may not have even be used, so choose your mate for your herb wisely. I chose the green 4 piece SCS, mostly because it reminded me of a SSV even though I only have a DBV + Solo haha.

That aside, I would just get a 4 piece SCS, simply due to much better control over potency. Every single bowl you take from a 3 piece will have delicious kief on top, which is great, but you may feel that you get "too high" due to how the kief is automatically mixed with the ground bud anyway. Also, some users prefer the 4 piece because they can just store tons of kief in collectible jars. One user (maybe even in this thread?) said that his uncle/dad has jars of kief hidden in his closet over the years, can't imagine when the day comes that the lucky guy gets to sample it all ;).

Don't get me wrong, the 3 piece is fantastic, but I would personally chip in an extra 10-20 and get a 4 piece with a kief collector. SCS may not collect kief as well as Space Case (even this is a contentious issue, and valid arguments come from both sides), but it really does grind/fluff up your material the best, I find.

In terms of grinding technique, it always comes down to how much bud you wanna grind. For me, the SCS is so enjoyable to use that I actually find myself grinding up too much bud for a night haha. It's just that freakin' good.

Anyways, I pack a few nugs or parts of them on the top piece of the grinder, turn it upside down, and see how much resistance the turn gives. If it's really damn hard (usual case), then I actually tilt the whole grinder at a 45 degree angle, and grind it off at that angle rather than flipping the entire grinder so that it's standing upright again.

If you grind at a 45 degree angle, the bud naturally slides into the bottom rows of the grinding teeth, making it way easier to turn the unit vs. the "upside-down" grind technique. This is especially useful for medical marijuana patients treating arthritis.

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
Quick update on my faulty SCS mini four piece:

Contacted SCS directly as @VapeFiend.com would not resolve my problem.

After bypassing some initial quirks with their customer service I was able to obtain a replacement shredder.

Which seems to be an updated version that has solid white lettering, a less fine pollen catcher and a concave bottom section.

Much like the 3 piece.

I think you may have indicated that you already made your decision, but I still want to add some things.

I should have included "with matte finish" to my previous post. As someone with very bad hands, I feel like my small orange matte SCS 4-piece is just about perfect. Not only aesthetically, but also functionally; specifically because of the matte finish, which feels much different than the glossy finish.

My hands grip the matte finish well, but they also glide against the matte finish at the same time, exactly how I need them to. It's hard to describe, but it really does happen. Plus the knurling seems to grip much better with the matte finish. I already prefer Santa Cruz Shredder's knurling to the knurling of other manufacturers, by far, but the knurling on their matte grinders is even better.

Also, I prefer taller grinders, specifically because of my bad hands. I have a hard time with 2-piece grinders. The difference between a mini 2-piece and a mini 4-piece is night and day. I almost can't use the 2-piece.

Just got my first SCS the other day (4 piece medium). Absolutely love it, thing is amazing.

Question for you guys that have them, how often do you clean them? How often does the screen get clogged so that no more kief falls thru? For the past 3 years, I've been using a 4 piece Diamond Grind from my local headshop where the screen would seem to get clogged after a week, so I gave up on trying to collect kief. Just wondering if this is something I'm going to have to run thru iso often, or if this stays unclogged for longer than a cheaper grinder like the DG?

Thanks guys!

I get pretty lazy with my grinder (Sharpstone, not SCS, though appears pretty similar) and probably only get to cleaning it thoroughly with iso and salt once every three or four months. I should probably go with more of a monthly cleaning like whatitdew, but it stays functional. I just got it clean this morning again. I didn't bother with the bottom two pieces, though. The screen was sufficiently cleared of stuck kief after I took a little brush to both sides of it and the bottom just has a little kief in it so I didn't clean that, either. The most important parts to clean on my grinder are the teeth (like diamonds with cutaway/concave sides) and the little bumps/curbs that protrude around the circumference of the edge of the area where the bud goes (to provide some resistance for the top teeth to shred instead of just pushing around, I'm guessing) where kief collects. I kinda forgot how easy it was to get it clean.
