I think he's talking about the same part I've been talking about; the part that has either vertical grooves, horizontal grooves, or no grooves. (That is, if he's talking about a Santa Cruz.)

I wish so many grinder companies didn't find it necessary to slap such big and unattractive logos onto all of their products. Those compton grinders look nice functionally, but I wouldn't want to pay $70 just to have a giant ugly unremovable ad plastered on my grinder. Same goes for SCS, though to a lesser extent. At least in SCS' case it's generally just simple text, though they could maybe scale down from the 1000pt font.

Does the new teeth style on the SCS make it easier to grind through the initial resistance, or do you still have to rock the top back and forth for a second to loosen up the herb enough for the top to spin?
Also how consistent is the grind on a large SCS? Do you get a mix of fine and coarser herbs as a result of the huge edge holes?

Does anyone know of retailers offering a good selection of high end grinders? How about discounts on SCS, compton, space case or any others worth checking out?

I've had some pretty good luck buying from EZVAPES, regarding both pricing and service, although I am currently waiting for two grinders that were out of stock when I ordered, even though the web site said they were both in stock when I ordered. That's not cool, but I feel like their customer service rep has gone pretty far out of his way to take care of me.

I believe they have a price match policy, which I didn't know until after I ordered 5 grinders from them. That's OK, though, because I got some pretty good discounts anyway, on top of already-reasonable prices. After ordering my first two grinders from them via Amazon, my shipment included a card with a $20 off coupon code for any order over $100. The coupon code did not work on Amazon, so I ordered through the EZVAPES web site, where the coupon code did work. (The pricing was a little different between their own site and Amazon, though, so I ended up changing part of my order from a 4-piece Cosmic to a 5-piece Diamond Grind.)

There is another site with a similar name ("EZGRINDERS, maybe). From what I've seen, it looks like the same company, although I think EZGRINDERS is based in San Francisco rather than New Jersey.

Unless I'm stupid, that's a nice deal! I haven't seen a large 4-piece SCS listed for under $60 anywhere before now, and it seems like most of them cost between $65 and $70. I actually paid $79.99 for mine because I really wanted the gun metal color when I bought it, and because the route I chose seemed to be the only option at the time (at least regarding gun metal).

(Sorry for posting twice in a row, but these two posts are so different that I thought it was appropriate to separate them.)

Late this morning I found a large 2-piece Space Case Titanium in my mailbox. I haven't used it yet, but let me tell you about my first impressions. (Note: I had never used, or even seen, a Space Case before today.)

• Just by holding it, I can tell this thing was made to not fuck around. It's pretty heavy, especially on the bottom half. In fact, it's kind of weird (to me) that the bottom piece is so much heavier than the lid. (I don't think it's a bad thing, though; just not what I'm used to.)
• It's almost twice as tall/thick as my mini 2-piece SCS, which seems to make it nice for gimpy hands.
• Several nice big spaces to put your herbs before grinding, in between certain teeth.
• I haven't seen any kind of blemish. This thing is real purdy. (I hope you're paying attention, Santa Cruz.)
• Nice and thick. Good for gimpy hands. Even as nice as most Santa Cruz Shredders are, one word applies to this grinder which cannot really be used to describe any of my SCSes: SOLID. (I mean, SCSes are very solid, but this thing takes that word to a new level.)
• Not as perfectly smooth as my large SCS while in use. It has no grooves on either of the surfaces that contact each other, so it's very equivalent to my mini SCS in that department.
• It smears/smudges more than any of my SCShredders.
• The strong magnet is never going to let the grinder open when I don't want it to.
• The little grooves on the exterior are so fine that my first thought was that it has no grooves.
• Unlike many other people, I would actually like to see the top-side branding a little better. I think.
• Since it's so big, I will probably be able to use this one by doing a back-and-forth motion, rather than turning the lid in one direction exclusively. I almost always use my grinders by turning the lid in the same direction (clockwise) several times.
• This is the first grinder I've owned that I haven't rushed to use. It's not because I'm not curious to find out how it works. Rather, it's because I am very curious to find out how it works. That is, I'm consciously teasing myself.

Oh yeah, I also found some Grinder Grease in the mailbox. I can't really say anything about it yet, but I did put a tiny bit of it on the creaky kief catcher threads of my large SCS, and the threads seem to be a bit smoother now. I don't want to commit to that statement quite yet, though.

[Off topic] Last night I bought a couple treats: 1/2 oz and 1/8 oz. Now that I have a scale sensitive enough to register hundredths of a gram, I gave it a nice test by checking to make sure my herbs weighed as much as they're supposed to. Turns out I only received about 75% of what I paid for, with both bags. I already suspected this was happening, which I suppose is why I bought the scale. Not happy. I'm not going to confront the dude; I'm just never going to buy from him again. Regardless, I will soon put about half a gram of herbs through this new toy, even though it can clearly handle several times more than that.

Massdrop offer some recurring deals, most of the time for some space case or SCS but I've just got in on one for some cali crusher homegrown, that deal might still be up but should be ending very soon if it still is.

Yeah I think its the o ring. Mine is off colored and leaves a residue after turning.

They replaced one of mine for this reason. the replacement is doing the same thing. does anybody have any exprience with the sharp shredda? I'm thinking of what to get next because SCS has currently lost their way. The Sharp Shredder has similar teEth as SCS

Yes I just put it on the outside of the male end of the top piece that connects down into the middle piece. I use my finger and wipe it all the way around. A bit may transfer to the middle piece but I don't apply there. In the pic below you can see I apply it to the male area down to the black ring. A little might get on the black ring and that is fine with me . . .

my girlfriend was annoyed that i kept using her space case and leaving it in my vape spot so i just went to pick it up when i had some extra cash. i'll let you guys know what i think after i get some use out of it

Now that I have applied Grinder Grease to the male edge of my small SCS's lid, I must admit that the grinder does feel considerably smoother. Still, I feel some contact when I turn the lid, and I already know this thing will get pretty nasty as soon as I use it again. So I don't feel bad about being sent another one. Which seems to be happening. Maybe?

In an email this morning, the SCS guy asked me for my address, as well as the size of my grinder, then said they might send me another grinder. Might. I replied pretty much right away, providing the information he asked for, but I haven't heard back. I have no idea what that means.

I can provide feedback on a compton grinder! I have been using a medium sized 4 piece for a while now.

It is epic. The grind is super fine (finer than the acrylic sharktooth grinder I got with my Mighty!!!), the magnet action is fucking spot on, that top piece of the grinder is not going anywhere! The grips on the sides are the best I have ever seen on any grinder by a very, very long shot. The bud grinds through the holes around the teeth to the kief screen middle chamber bud storage section perfectly without assistance being required (so long as you don't overload it. The removable kief screen is again the very best quality I have ever seen, with ease of removability another major plus!

I would heartily recommend Compton Grinders to anybody!

I was unable to find the diameter of the Compton medium sized grinder on the web site - does anyone know? Thanks!!!

Just curious. This question is for anyone who wants to answer it: When you grind, do you turn your grinder lid in only one direction (either clockwise or counterclockwise) or do you turn it back-and-forth?

If you do both, do you notice a difference in your grind when you do it one way vs. the other way? Anything else to add?

This is weird, but it seems that since I received my large 2-piece Space Case Ti yesterday, I have unconsciously and unintentionally begun using a new method of turning grinder lids. At first I thought it was just because I had to adapt a little to the large diameter of the Space Case (3.5"/90mm), but then I noticed I was doing it with every grinder; even the mini SCS 2-piece. (Remember, I sit and play with these things off and on all day, usually with nothing in them. Because of this change in how I hold/turn my grinders, I am now wondering if playing with grinders for the last few weeks has actually strengthened my hand and finger muscles a little.)

Even though I'm probably never going to use this Space Case much, one thing I really like about it is that the lid is much taller than any other grinder [lid] I have, which gives me a lot of surface to hold onto, thus more leverage (if that's the right word). At first I figured this lid is so tall/high specifically because it's on a 2-piece, but it appears from pictures that Space Case 4-pieces also have a really tall lid. Can anyone confirm whether Space Case lids are the same height between 2-piece and 4-piece models of the same diameter?

Also, I think I want to change my earlier description of this grinder from "SOLID" to "TANK." That is, it's a freaking tank.

I usually slightly over pack my grinder, just a force of habit I guess. As a result I usually start my grind by rocking it back and forth 4 or 5 times to loosen the buds up and finish with 4 or 5 turns counterclockwise. I've done it so much that the ritual has become second nature. I'll be interested to see how the SCS I have on the way will affect my grinding routine since it's slightly larger and has a very different tooth and hole configuration. I've been using windowed sharpstone grinders for many years now, so my grind style probably has a lot to do with the teeth configuration in the sharpstone.

Why'd you go with the 2 piece grinder? Ever since I got my first 4 piece there's been no going back for me. I like the consistency of the grind of the acrylic triangle toothed grinders that S&B includes with the volcano, but I just can't be bothered with a 2 piece. Someone needs to introduce a 4 piece with triangle teeth. Anyway, 4 pieces allow me to grind my buds down into the chamber, pack my screen/bowl over the chamber preventing waste, and keep all my extra ground product safe for my next pack. With a 2 piece I always have to keep a tray or plate handy to empty stuff onto, then the plate gets sticky and collects dust and hair and whatnot. The grinder situation is my least favorite part about smoking at other people's places, as they usually have cheap 2 piece grinders and nothing to tap the ground herbs out onto. Picking ground herb out from between the teeth drives me nuts, it's almost less efficient than just picking the bud apart by hand.

Why'd you go with the 2 piece grinder?

First of all, although it may sometimes seem like I portray myself as someone with considerable grinder knowledge, I'm inclined to believe that's probably not true. Second, I already have two SCS 4-pieces (large and small, with a mini SCS 4-piece and a Diamond Grind 5-piece on the way), as well as a couple generic 4-pieces. Third, as I've shared earlier, my hands have lost a lot of function, so it seems to be much more important for me to find something that's as close to perfect as possible, compared to how important it may be for most other people. I still haven't figured out if perfect (for me) means 2-piece or 4-piece or 2" or 3" or what.

Basically I have nothing but time and an obsessive-compulsive personality (or an extremely analytical personality). Right now I'm obsessed with grinders, so I spend most of my time thinking about grinders and playing with grinders.

With a 2 piece I always have to keep a tray or plate handy to empty stuff onto, then the plate gets sticky and collects dust and hair and whatnot. The grinder situation is my least favorite part about smoking at other people's places, as they usually have cheap 2 piece grinders and nothing to tap the ground herbs out onto. Picking ground herb out from between the teeth drives me nuts, it's almost less efficient than just pi.

I don't get the point of buying a cheap 2-piece grinder. I mean, this large Space Case 2-piece cost like $33, and it's probably about the most expensive 2-piece available. My mini SCS 2-piece cost $15. When you can buy a fantastic 2-piece grinder of a decent size for no more than $25, why go even cheaper?

When I use a 2-piece (mini SCS), I usually dump the contents straight into the collection chamber of a bigger 4-piece grinder. Since the new Space Case is so large (3/4" larger than my next largest grinder), and because I've only used it once, I dumped it onto a folded piece of paper. I'd rather not do it that way, but that's the best way I've found so far. Someone mentioned a pollen box to me on here yesterday, and I have been thinking about getting one eventually. Actually, I'd like to have one now, with a really fine screen, but I've recently spent a whole bunch of money on grinders and a vaporizer. Consequently, I think I need to chill on the spending for a while.

A lot of us choose 2 pc grinders because you have more control over the grind consistency which is pretty key with a lot of vapes. I used to always use 4 piece grinders and still have them but the large 2 pc scs, 1.2" Piranha 2 pc and the mflb finishing grinder are the only ones that've seen the light of day for over a year. I'm sure you'll love your new scs since you prefer 4 piece grinders.

Heya guys!

Snagged a small orange 3 piece and a mini 2 piece from SCS during their 7/10 sale - they arrived just now. First impression of the heft of each grinder really caught me off guard, guess I should brush up on my imperial measurement-fu so as not to be freaked out by US sizing next time . The 3 piece is generously sized for a 'small', I would like to see the same model in a 'mini' guise (my ideal size) for portability, also better tailored to my level of consumption.

Whereas I was quite impressed with the finish of these two, actual smoothness didn't get me excited; not so much due to surface on surface friction but gasket hardness/brittleness - reckoning time will tell. The matte on the orange' inner chamber seems a bit porous nevertheless it's unfair to remark on it before giving it a good run in. I'm rather dankrupt these days so it's to be shelved for brighter times...

After the initial grind in the mini piece I must say I'm rather unimpressed by these models tolerances. A good deal of the kief and small plant bits managed to sneak out through the ID and OD mating surfaces. I measured the diameters of the mini (37.2mm ID, 37.8 OD) and small (49.1 ID, 49.5 OD) and the mini has a fairly lower tolerance. For the price I cannot complain, I just hope my larger more expensive 'small' lives up to the hype! My main grinder thus far has been a debadged Italian made HeadChef 30mm, which is excellently machined despite its diminutive scale... Thanks for all the tips and treats from this thread!

It's always better to load in the section that has the smaller diameter (the ones in the bottom of the last pic), so you don't get bud trapped or squashed between the rims.

My main grinder thus far has been a debadged Italian made HeadChef 30mm, which is excellently machined despite its diminutive scale...

I have the black 30mm Headchef . It's a great little grinder. The anodizing holds up really well, and unlike their larger 55mm 2 piece, you get 'grips' for easy turning on both sections. I've only seen the brand sold in the UK and it's about $10 delivered from everyonedoesit.com. Best grinder I've ever found for pocket carry.

I've tried searching and reading back but there are a lot of posts. I have an SC and some that came free from puffitup with orders. All 4 piece and all have a similar consistency. I'd like one with a finer grind. I had an MFLB finisher but gave it away with all my MFLB stuff.
