I received these two orange beauties today. The silver to the right is my old one.

There is an interesting difference in tooth design between the two & four piece grinder. You will notice a slight ridge in the middle of the two piece's tooth (left). I apologize for the poor phone quality.

I bought one of NewVape's grinders when out at the Cannibas Cup in Denver. I wholeheartedly recommend everyone avoid this grinder. It looks great but does a terrible job.

I'm sorry your not happy with the grinder. The 3 piece grinders that we sold at the cup are from our first generation of grinders. I instructed our staff to sell them cheap but let people know they won't grind the stems and larger shake. I can only assume that message was not conveyed properly. I'd like to send you a free 2 piece grinder. please email me your shipping info and which one of our 2 piece specialty grinders you would like.

Our recent relevant post on IG
The NewVape 2 piece line of Grinders have been optimized for specific purposes. Teeth shape, teeth clearance, ergonomics, grind size, leave the shake, grind the stems, separate the kief, leave the kief, how many turns, are just a few of the engineering challenges we encountered along this journey. After hundreds of proto types, and engineering revisions we've concluded only one thing. One grinder doesn’t do everything for everyone, and it’s a moving target. People who grind weed all have different requirements and expectations. Is this the final revision? Probably not. But it's the best we got so far. We’ve decided to delay our multi stage grinders until we’re confident we have perfected our 2 piece grinders, and our customers varying requirements. We've tried to price these grinders as cheap as possible while still allowing the neighborhood brick and mortar head shop to make a buck. With your feedback and support I'm confident that we can prefect the best in class specific purpose grinders on the planet. . . .

Any 4pc grinder can become a 3pc you just can't go back and replace screen.
If you want to try collect kief and you don't like it,knock screen out your good.Jmo
I got my 4/20 SCS. Matte purple small 4 pc. If you are inclined not to catch kief separately all of the time the "screen stage" can be removed and the use it as a 3 pc.

I had resisted getting a grinder all these years thinking I didn't need one for vaping. Finally broke down and got a scs 3 piece gun metal after reading this thread. First impression was this thing is beautiful. Made really well and smooth turning compared to the freebies I've been given by online retailers. Ground up a nugget and filled up my firefly and esv. Both units performed much better with more instant hits without having to prime them. I'm really happy with this purchase and glad I took the time to research the various grinders in this thread. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

The advantage of keeping that fourth section with the screen knocked out would be a much bigger storage chamber, making it more like an actual three-piece grinder in this way.

The lack of any gripable machining on the bottom half of my large SCS is a problem for me.

Got SLX on mass drop. Janky cnc work here and there, weak magnet, but the nontoxic coating works.
I have no idea why the kief section isn't coated.

SLX hasn't bound up in a month, no clean. SLC gets sticky quicky.

So, I'm about to clean my grinder for the first time in its, maybe, 15 or 20 years old life. I'm sure I have posted it in here before, yeah, here it is.
mmvqck.jpg

I always thought it was a Chromium Crusher, but it has no label so I can't be sure. Can anyone tell from the teeth and magnet? It is a 4 pc, tho very little gets past the screen.
Anyway, as I can't ID the maker for sure I can't be sure of the material, so is it likely safe to drop in 91% ISO, or am I asking for it? It's pretty dirty after all this time so I would LIKE to collect some goods from it if I can...

Got the replacement grinder from NewVape. It does a pretty good job. Its kind of small and doesnt appear to turn as easily as the old model but does a great job grinding.
Funny story!

I was goofing off and ordered a hand crank grinder for $9.00 on dhgate.
It arrived today after 10 days.

Funny because it works so well?

Scissors
1.75 battery powered
2.25 space case
2.50 generic
3.50 space case
2.00 hand crank from dhgate

Hey guys ... I just wanted to point out that the 1.2" Piranha grinder is an awesome little grinder for the money. Been using it over a year and the only downside I see is a weak magnet ... the thing is TINY though which could be a downside to others. The grind consistency is on par with my large 2 pc scs but it doesn't get gunked up and impossible to turn nearly as fast as the scs. The Piranha grinder is also a smaller diameter than the mflb finishing grinder so if on the go w/ out pre-ground bud it can be used and easily dumps straight into the mflb grinder. Love this little guy ...

I really like my tiny piranha too. But it has been mentioned that the quality isn't as good with some of their other sizes. Personally I would still try one, based on the performance of this little guy

Has anyone tried the Phoenician grinders. They are supposed to be easy to use but don't have many teeth.

I love a good grinder. I have used a Space Case, Mendo Mulcher, Mix-N-Ball and pretty much every other "name brand" grinder you can think of. I recently had the opportunity to evaluate the first generation Phoenician Grinder. I absolutely HATE it! It is by far the WORST grinder I have ever used; even the little plastic $5.00 grinder from Storz & Bickel does a better job then a Phoenician grinder. Don't waste your money on a chunk of very high grade aluminum. If you already orderd one, I suppose it would make a good paperweight. Can you believe they are selling a Gold plated version that doesn't come with as good of a warranty as their standard series of grinders, and they are asking $1500 for them! I think they may have been breathing too much aluminum!?!? :o

On a side note, if you look at the Cali Crusher, you can see that Phoenician Grinders are awfully similar to Cali Crushers: :\ http://www.calicrusher.com/Black-Homegrown-Standard-4-Piece-Hard-Top-Grinder_p_66.html

This is about using a grinder and wondering about the kief in the kief-catcher...
Basically, I got a grinder sometime last summer, and haven't used or done anything with any of the kief that has been collecting in mine this whole time.

Age
How long is it OK to let the kief sit around for? I mean, as far as safety, etc. Like, is there anything kooky or funky (mold/bacteria/whatever that can happen to it if it's just left sitting there a long time, or is it just a matter of potency?
If there are any potential problems, what should I look for?

Color?
Recently, I decided to poke into it and check it out, and I noticed that there is a color difference between the material on the top of the layer of kief and the stuff at the bottom of the layer.
On top, it is pretty much the same color as the herb...sort of a mix of green, yellow, brown, etc. However, if I scrape away the top portion of the layer of kief, I see that the material under that is sort of reddish...or amber, or something like that.
Is that a problem? Is it some kind of micro-organism, or possibly just oxidation (of what, exactly)?

Looking to purchase my first grinder but theres so many choices.

Cosmic, Spacecase or Santa Cruz? Leaning towards the SCS more though

I wouldn't lose sleep over it, I have two of those which you list (space case and scs) and they perform identically to my needs, so in retrospect I would choose the cheaper of the two options. The more difficult decisions were size and the number of stages....I started out with small two stage grinders and realized how much more I preferred larger, four stage grinders.
