Herb Grinders

I just went ahead and ordered another black leaf matrix grinder after the first one was robbed by police (where is my receipt mister officer? Fucking thief! I mean, you want to take something from me, then I need to get at least a paper from you stating that you took it from me no? Apparently not!).

For all European members, this grinder, at 20euros including shipping from amazon, has the same lay-out and shape of teeth that the famous SCS grinders have. I used my previous one for about a year and never had any problem with it...

For reference here is a link to amazon.es where you can find it:

Pictures can be found in this thread, I am sure I posted them when receiving the first one...

Finally 5 days later, i've got a reply from PV but no reply from SCS , PV said this:
"SCS grinders use an anodizing process. Anodizing is an electrolytic passivation process use to create a strong protective coating for aluminum that limits corrosion, wear resistance, and “galling” (failing) of threaded parts. Anodizing changes the microscopic texture of the surface and changes the crystal structure of the aluminum near the surface. It not only bonds to the surface, but actually molecularly becomes the new surface. Raw aluminum is a soft material prone to even the tiniest scratches.
Eventually any aluminum grinder will show wear marks and scratches from use. They should not spin freely as the glide band will always cause resistance. All grinders must be kept clean by giving them a good cleaning by soaking in ISO otherwise resin builds up and makes it difficult to spin.
Let us know what SCS responded to you about your concerns"
So...40 bucks Grinder can scratch it and is normal, but they don't tell me the option that cannot work perfectly this Grinder? If there is some imperfection, i have no chance? Just use it like normal , im a bit confused...i think the Grinder don't work properly and i noticed cause @Gaffa's got same problem !
I'll wait for SCS reply but i think they will not answer me , we'll see!

If your scratches are anything like Gaffa's where the grinder is scratching it's self, it's defective... do you have pics? Even if you're outside the terms of PV's return policy, I'm not impressed by their response... did they offer you any resolution to your problem?

No resolution at this moment, i don't know how to handle this , if SCS don't give me reply and PV told me that, what can i do? PV does not tell me nothing about resolution just they explain to me how are made the SCS Grinder!

I'm thinking that the grinder must have taken a big hit at some point, making the body, lid, or whatever parts slightly out of round. Either that or it's a fake, because this seems highly unusual for an scs.

Maybe, but there have been a few reports of other users on this thread with similar issues recently, perhaps it was a bad batch (or the shipment was damaged?). Deja Vu was one of them who comes to mind......

My SCS still turns easily, abeit a bit gunked up - she's due for her first cleaning.

Well... here's further to my story which is close to being resolved now.

I contacted the store I bought off (Alibongo) and sent them images to their Facebook page. On the same night I emailed Santa Cruz Shredder, after having already sent their Facebook page images, and being told I should send that exact message to their email, so I did.
Anyway, I hadn't heard from them in a few days, so got onto facebook, SCS page and sent them another messaging just asking how long I can expect to wait for a reply, and was told to ring the store and ask for Matt, which would speed things up. Nice, so a UK customer ringing the US is their current advisory.

Anyway, the next day I went ahead and called the SCS in the US - 4 times... Absolutely useless. The first option is to speak to the person who I'd be wanting (Matt someone) and the other option was for technical support. After pressing either option, the phone only rings out for like 15 seconds or so, and then we're told they're not available, and putting me through to voicemail.
SO I left a message on the phone, and that was a good few days ago now, and still haven't had either a phonecall back or a response to my email.

Contacted Alibongo today who confirmed that SCS is almost impossible to get hold of (in other words, shoddy customer service) and they said that they'd refund me when I send it back. A bit of a result.
They also said they'd call me when they had more 70mm Rasta SCS grinders in, and that they would test the one they would send out before doing so, just so I didn't have an issue with the replacement.

<Sigh>

The SLX grinders looked good and could be a viable option but the one question I'd have to have answered is does the non-stick coating really work?

Glad your getting your money back. I'm looking at SLX or COMPTOM but also I hate to buy these things because who knows if they work. i did talk to SCS 3 times, they're rude and honored their warranty begrudgingly. II have a brand new SCS 4 pc from them that I don't use because I expect the blades to chip and burr like the first one

In my experience, yes.

I've ran about a half oz through my SLX 2 piece. I have yet to clean or brush it out, even leaving alone "smeared" herbs on the side of the lid (I will scrape it off my SC because it will cause friction). No smearing on the outside of the ceramic lip, still grinds smoothly.

I did a thorough cleaning of my SC today (around 8 months since last cleaning). I had to scrape some resins/kief out of the grooves of the SC. I don't notice any resin build up in the grooves of the SLX. Maybe I just need to wait a few more oz before I notice any build up, but right now I can easily brush off everything remaining in the grooves.

My only complaint about the SLX is the groove cuts on the lids. It can be sharp and cause minor pains.

Edit: I got it off MassDrop for $30. For me, it's hard to say if it's worth the retail price ($60) but at $30 it's a superb buy IMO.

If the screen is removed does that mean it becomes a 3 pc?! That would be epic!

Edit
Also seems like the small 4 pc has a different hole layout than the medium 4 pc. The small one has a interesting design!

think I'll get the small 4 pc in the gun metal

Im glad to see you have some results. Me , at the moment , NOTHING , no answer from SCS and PV at the moment only told me the things i posted days ago, no solution from them, might they can give me a replacement or so .
Really is not a big issue in my own case, but just im fucked to pay these money for a Grinder with big reputation and have this problems, my 4 pieces GRASS LEAF ULTRA 450 , always worked like a champ! and never had to buy a SCS !

Diamond grind, are amazing! Ok so I live in atx, and i get very excited when i find an austin company producing some quality stuff, with awesome customer service! some body wrote about this grinder a few pages back, said they were made outta atx so i had to grab one.

i found em on eBay, grinder palace, nice selection, great price. well i found one i was looking for, medium in my favorite color green.

so i buy it now, knowing it was shipping from atx. Being in the area i knew it would get to me relatively quickly like next day, so i sent a message to ebay, if it would ship out same day, she responded quickly said yes it will ship today, and i was happy, a few hours later she emailed and said sadly they are outta the 4 pc green, gave me some other options, i said cool another color would be fine, (as no matter what color they all do the same job my thinking) so she said she went down to her warehouse, and said sorry bout the green 4 pc we have a green 5 pc in the next size up ready to ship, i went ahead and shipped that and sent it priority, thank you for your business

so i go to work the next day, get home, check mail and bam new grinder. this thing is badass. go check check em out! there well priced. made in tx and bomb ass customer service!
