Herb Grinders

Sorry if this is a really noob question but how do you guys manage a fine grind with a 2 pc without clogging the sides? After just two grinds on my brand new space case, little pieces started sticking to the rim and made it impossible to turn unless I scraped it off:\

I was grinding it upside down and sideways though.
With 2 piece Space Case I recommend loading the bottom... leave a hole on middle to accomodate the top's magnet.
Turn sideways like a tire to ground and grind with back and forth motion.
I empty it like cracking an egg onto surface... pulling the grinder apart, as I turn both top and bottom upside down over my dish... and I then knock bottom and top together to dislodge particles. (no.. grinders are not dented up, and are not coated, so it does not mar the surfaces)
Your meds may be to fresh, or climate too humid...
I go around edge with a toothpick after grind when it becomes clogged on outside edges.

Thanks Vito. I basically follow your method but once I start turning it "sideways like a tire" to grind, I can feel the edges becoming gunked up and becoming progressively harder and harder to turn.

So it does indeed sound like scraping around the edges is inavoidable to get a fine, powdery grind? This is the one part I find very annoying... having to scrape off the grinder every 2 to 3 sessions. I find the space case does a pretty good grind just right side up, without turning it upside down or sideways like a tire, but I want as close to a powdery consistency as possible.

Looks like it's back to the scissors

Or, to drying the bud a bit more.
Do you live in humid climate?

My bud is pretty dry already... I'm only playing around with mids right now since I was going through so much weed combusting. I may try for some top shelf stuff now but I actually don't see my consumption going down with my ssv lol (but I'm vaping like crazy so I don't mind).

I live in the Bay Area in California. So I'd say it's pretty humid here.

There is nothing as crisp and sharp as a clean new grinder....
After an Iso bath and brushing...
AND a thorough drying, your conditions may improve.
Wishing you smooth grinds!

What is your preferred method of evaporating iso? I've read about blowing a fan over the disk of iso, but particles can blow into it over time and contaminate the hash. Also read about the double boiler method over the stove as the most efficient and cleanest method but discreteness is of concern here (I have housemates so I don't want to be doing medicinal-related activities in the common area if possible).

Lastly, I read about the blow dryer method. Seems like my #1 choice right now but just seems so long and tedious...

I never rush it.
I leave it on the dish overnight.
In my house, I leave it on a shelf that is in a cabinet.
You can do this on a box in the floor of your closet... or also in a drawer of your dresser.
(close drawer slowly!... when you open it next day it wont matter.. stuff will be dry)

I did nothing to help it here.
The sediment/weed particles dry naturally to the center...
oils to the outside ring...
and the area between scrapes up into delicate kief flakes.

So all you did was leave your dish in a cabinet and it dried by itself? Awesome!

So after it dries, do you pour more of your iso (with thc oil in it) on the dish to dry again? And let it all accumulate?

Or do you have to scrape off all the goodies before pour another batch of iso with thc in it?

I scrape it all up and use it.. vaporize it.
There will be no more Iso used.

Scrape it together and vape it

I meant, what if I have a lot of iso to evaporate?

Example:

I have a giant jar of Iso. I pour only 1/10 of that jar on a dish to evaporate. Once it all evaporates, I want to pour more iso WITHOUT scraping (so all the goodies are still stuck on the plate).

I want to do this over and over until my jar of iso is all evaporated so I can just scrape ALL the goodies at one time. I don't want to have to scrape the dish after every "batch" of iso.

Is it safe to do this?

Sorry if that sounds confusing.

You risk entrapping some solvents within the existing layers of already "tacky" medium.
If you do not have an EXTRA large pyrex plate, then it would take repeated pourings.
Alcohol does not purge out the same as does butane in a vacuum... it requires low heat and time first.

The deal is, you would be making the dried result in the plate wet again, only each time you pour , due to increasing viscosity and resin it will take twice as long to dry.
The final pour could take 4-5 days to sit and dry.
So.. to save the work of scraping each day, you prolong the process by a number of days... and at same time risk purity, and eventual contamination by dust and dander.

Pour Iso and scrape up in morning = 1 batch
do it 5 times = 5 batches
This took 5 days.

PourIso, dont scrape, and repour.
do this 5 times.. it could take 15 days to dry in total.. because each pour required double the pour before.
This takes over 2 weeks!

Once again, your knowledge has blown me away lol. It didn't even occur to me that the drying out process would take much longer with the extra resin...

Ok, I will scrape each time after evaporation... to not only save on quality but time as well! Thank you Vito!!!! Once again... lol

So as much as I want a shiny new scs I decided to stick with what I've got for now. I've been using these two 4-piece grinders for many years. The big bare aluminum one has seen the most use, and it still grinds like a champ when it's clean. I have never even had to clean the inner teeth, just the outer lip areas where the top slides against the main unit. Now that it's clean again, I decided to break out these two tubes of stuff, slide right and joint wax; I think they're the same stuff? Lol I used the slide right where I normally use coconut oil, which is where I cleaned.

So here's my deal.

I own a blue 4 piece turn handle grinder I got for $20 off eBay. The turn handle now turns but the "mill" inside doesn't. I'm now on the market for a new grinder. Hopefully for around 35$ CND. I still want a 4 piece but can live without the turn handle (frankly I think it sucks).

My concern is aluminum dust in my botanicale I vape with my solo. I looked today with my phones flash light and could see little shiney specs which I'm going to assume is trichomes. It doesn't look like aluminum on the bud.

Given my concern is vaping aluminum what is the safest grinder I can buy online or buy locally in Ontario(Newmarket) that is 2.2" 4 piece and won't make me regret my favorite past time in the future for about 35$

EDIT: okay I've decided on the 2.2" sharpstone grinder In Greg from sharpstone grinders.com its 31$ shipped. Does anyone have a coupon code?

Grinder Grease: just got my Grinder Grease and as others have said, feels like someone put some ball bearings in there. From rough movement to smooth as silk.
If you haven't tried it on your grinder edges/threads---you should.
Anybody know what brand the grinder with the Denver Broncos logo on the cover is?

I was wondering if anyone had a matte black santa cruz shredder

if so would a normal iso alcohol cleaning work or would it damage my grinder

I have washed mine twice quickly using ISO and it hasn't appeared to do any damage. I have a matte black Santa Cruz Shredder. I would double check before trying for yourself, but this is just my experience.

I've been using a 2 pc SC for years now (my method is the same as Vito descibes above). At first, I was dilligent about cleaning it. Now, I only clean every 6 mo. or so. It grinds everything I throw at it with consistency (except a batch of GSC that was ridiculous).

I can't see myself ever switching (unless to a bigger size), or needing grinder grease.

I do a ISO soak every 5-6 months or so, but only if the sifter screen appears clogged. For the most part, I end up just using a brush on it to get the finer materials off the walls, between pegs and out of corners. This finer grinder material that I clean out is great for my Plenty.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a grinder card but as I don't know much about those and have never met anyone using them I wanted to ask you for some input. I know this thread is more about high end grinders but well it's a grinder as well so I believe I'm in the right section (plus I'm too new here to dare starting a new thread :uhoh:) but please let me know if there's a better place for this or if it deserves its own thread.

So if any of you is/has been using one of those cards please let me know what you think of it (what's convenient or not in those, brands to avoid/recommend, materials? anything really will be appreciated as so far it seems to me that it's treated as a bit of a gadget but I can't help thinking it's super portable and must be good for the basics at least if well made (good material and sharp?).
