Great Movies You've Seen Recently That Are NOT New Releases..

(zombie) Woof.
Yep, but this thread is for movies...
Meh, I wouldn't touch that TeeVee thread with a 10' fuckin' pole (like so many others here)... And the first season is very short and views like a long feature film, but I was mostly just responding to @GoldenBud post...thanks for the unnecessary/obvious info anyway, buddy

I agree. the True Detective S01 is like a long movie, not a standard TV Season.
@LesPlenty it's my fault mentioning TV here, but it's really a masterpiece and feels like a long film because only 8x episodes. I recommend it over all the movies mentioned lol (True Detective S02 has nothing to do with S01. different story, total garbage. just "action". nothing brilliant/good acting/good script)

Raising Arizona - Like a Live-Action cartoon. Hilarious
A near perfect film. Beautifully shot (hadn't realised how much of the Shining was referenced until I watched last night), script and cast are impeccable, as is the sound. A world away from the politics of today: "I tried to stand up and fly straight, but it wasn't easy with that sumbitch Reagan in the White House. I dunno. They say he's a decent man, so maybe his advisors are confused."

Sleepaway Camp! Every year as the weather gets warmer I start to think about this movie like clockwork and watch it and the sequels as soon as it’s summer, if not a little before. I don’t want to say much about the plot because certain details could give away the ending but it’s an 80s summer camp slasher that for me blows all of the others away. There’s something so perfect about it, the dialog is often hilarious but the kills are brutal and then that ending… :D

A true gem, treat yourself! If you want to really get the full effect don’t read anything about the series beforehand because what it common knowledge in the sequels will ruin the ending of the first and best movie in the series.

Putin is a War Criminal
This may be the most ironic scene in all of 1950s movie making. I laugh out loud every time I see it. and that is fairly often.

The fact that you could see this apparently high budget film that was released in May likely on steaming 5 months later suggests that it was, indeed, not a box office winner.

The Mystery of the Wax Museum

The original House of Wax [movie]! This was once considered to be a lost film and during that time, in 1953, it was re-made as House of Wax but eventually suitable elements were found for restoration and now it has a fantastic looking, both from a technical perspective and the cool, otherworldly look the film has overall, blu-ray from Warner Archive. It is the story of a newspaper reporter investigating the disappearance of bodies from a morgue as her roommate is pursued by an artist who wants her to pose as a figure for his wax museum. Lots of fun, fast old-timey-speak in this one too!

All I could find was this low quality, unofficial looking trailer:

The remakes are well worth checking out too. There’s the 1953 House of Wax with Vincent Price that most people are probably familiar with; this one is also available from Warner Archive and they did a restoration of both the flat and 3D versions (3D version on the BD is not anaglyph and requires a 3D BD player and a 3D TV; the red/cyan and/or green/magenta glasses will not work...), the 2005 remake which is pretty good and also takes it’s own gory approach to the story giving it shades of Tourist Trap (1979), and then also the loose 1997 Italian adaptation The Wax Mask (M.D.C. - Maschera di Cera) produced by Euro-cult legend Dario Argento. The latter should have been a collaboration between Argento and Lucio Fulci, another cult Italian director, but Fulci died before filming could begin so famous Italian special effects man Sergio Stivaletti was chosen to make his directorial debut with this one.

Mystery of the Wax Museum and the 1953 House of Wax are two fun, old-fashioned horror movies that you could watch with pretty much any audience but the 2005 House of Wax and Wax Mask are adult fare, as is Tourist Trap (also pretty good...).

House of Wax (1953)
lol, here’s a fanmade trailer that actually has some scenes from the movie in it (may contain spoilers...):

Putin is a War Criminal
One of my favorite movies of all time...

I will mention one thing that does often piss me off about movie promotion. That scene above on that trailer is the fucking climax of the movie. It is literally the last scene. They produce their own spoiler in their fucking trailer? What is that about?? This movie is from 1941 but they still do this kind of shit today if they think it will draw movie goers. I HATE spoilers.
