I emailed a comment about that to VG, and mentioned that I would buy an official water pipe adapter if they made one, they said they have rejected that idea "for a number of reasons". They didn't explain

i got the same response from the, i replied asking why and got nothing. only thing i can think of is they want their part used in their pipes for warranty reasons? not sure, seems silly if thats what its about.

congrats on the "Vaporocket", sounds like a stealth version of the sherlock basically.

the big problem with using a VG with a waterpipe is you cant feel the vapor on your tongue.
it makes it extra difficult to get a proper hit and for newbies, close to impossible

I have never used a VG but while using a Vaporstar it was awesome while using a bong, at least until 12', after that the vapor is too poorly condensed.

m4c,
I never had any problems using the glass VG top with my Magickwand bowl, jet lighter or bic. Like all torch based lighters there is a learning curve to be overcome. The Vaporgenie people are foolish for not releasing a GonG bowl commercially.

It might have something to do with HealthStone Glass and their GonG pieces for concentrates.

I have also successfully used my Sherlock VG top with my Magick Wand bowls, both the 18mm and 14mm. I hale also slipped a grommet onto the end of the Glass Bat VG and used it that way in 14mm glass. Only thing I tweaked in the MW bowls was to put the screen a little higher, - just stacked a couple extra screens in it.

I wonder if their refusal to make an official water pipe adapter is related to their insistence that torch lighters not be used. In my opinion, you pretty much have to use a torch to use the VG with a water pipe (IMO due to increased air flow). So if torch lighters make the filter break down faster, it could account for both positions.

It does seem an odd choice, if there is no technical reason. Normally demand creates supply - supposed to be the point of market-driven capital. Or it might infringe on someone else's patent. That happens with a lot of products (I work in the law, including a lot of patent litigation). Just some possible reasons.

So is there a consensus on using a torch lighter with the Glass (Sherlock) VG? I just scored one of these and am currently using a bic with it but I want to get something that's electric ignition and a little nicer to use regularly. I'm torn between a bunch of cheap DealExtreme torches or a nice Colibri or Lotus gooseneck pipe lighter. I think the torch sounds more convenient but I'm terrified of cracking the glass. If you do use a torch, what's your technique like?

with a torch you can get a much more consistent heat.
you're going to want to start so far away that you arent getting a hit and inch closer until you've got it down.

it should be a bit easier than the classic VG use with a torch.

I've bought a few dealextreme torches, from $1.50 to $12 big ones, and they *work*, but I definitely wouldn't reccomend one of the small ones for regular use with the VG.

Although maybe finding a friend with one already and trying it out would be a good idea so you dont blow a lot on a nice lotus & dont like (Lotus is kick ass btw)

i was also concerned about damaging the vg glass. the technique that i use is that i hold the torch at a distance such that the outer tip of the flame is about 1/4 inch away from the top of the ceramic glass holder, sometimes closer if im being lazy but usually around there. i start in the middle and move it further out (but not to the edge of glass, i keep it inside of the opening) and i make circles inside there for about 2-3 seconds unless the bowl is about done and i feel like like getting the high temp vapors.

ive been using that method for months. i actually go back and forth from torch to bic, cant explain why...just something i do...it think sometimes i really like watching that flame as i take in a slow long hit.

I found a really good torch for cheap. Its the Ronson Jetlight and you can get them at Walgreens for $5, comes with a 1 year warranty. I had one for several years that still works great and I just bought another a couple months ago. They have a consistent flow and actually continue to work very well for such an inexpensive torch. Works much better than the decent cigar torch I got for $10 at a smoke shop which eats through fuel and forces you to constantly fiddle with the valve.

i cant believe on the website:
FOR BEST RESULTS -
Always Refuel With
RONSON BUTANE FUEL

refill a torch lighter with the lowest quality butane? :ko:
(doesnt say the EU version)

Well of course. They can't make much on those lighters so they need to make the money on the fuel

Nice to hear those Jetlight work well though, I noticed them on ebay and was kinda curious about them. Might order me the gunmetal version just because it is so cheap. Anyone here uses one of those Z-plus Zippo butane torch inserts btw? I just noticed there are two different versions and I'm hoping I ordered the right one.

The one I ordered looks a little more like the petrol insert with the holes in the windcover, and the more common one has vertical stripes on the windcover.

i use the following when not using a BIC : CLICK FOR URL

i like the ability to have candle flame, not sure if that is common or not.

i suggest you get two or three, but it works very well, likely find it cheaper elsewhere...the igniter will eventually go out unless you are lucky after a few months of daily use (my case at least)...and i use "Vector Quintuple Refined" butane in it, its much cleaner than the ronson...and i do have that ronson torch lighter mentioned, its good for cigars.

Cool, I've been looking around in local shops for that exact same one just because it's so pretty (I want it cheap without shipping costs etc.). I have no need for a regular flame function myself though, not on a torch anyway. I have plenty of old Varaflames around for that :)

I may be over doing my torch-buying a little though. Besides the Zippo insert I also just ordered a Iroda PT-220 because it seems the safest one to use (because of the little kill switch) of all the quality torches I researched.

YouTube

The Blazer GB2001 was second on my list but it's definitely the sexiest one. Saw it first in CDS "Soloing_with_the_Dead" vid and want one ever since. But it's impossible to find locally, and I really like the idea of being able to turn it off with the press of a button while keeping the flame setting, and the Iroda seems the only one that can do that. I bought a fake Chinese copy of the Blazer yesterday but it leaks all over the place so I'm returning that one. I also bought another cheap creme brulee burner that works really well surprisingly, I'll keep this one as my back up torch. Mine is red but this is the same one: ebay link

Perhaps I should stop buying torches for a while now though, even if it's just to prove to myself that I can

Anybody used this thing for oil? I did last night and loved it.
Was annoyed that health stones for oils are basically combusting. So i dropped a small health stone (which appears to be exactly the same as a vg filter, btw) into my glass vg's bowl (instead of herbs), put some oil on the stone, and then put the top on and hit it like I would if it was full of herbs. Needed to get a little hotter, but MAN, one of the best oil sessions I've had. Hugely efficient, kept pulling clouds out of a little dab of oil. And far easier than dabbing with a nail or skillet.

Then tried the same thing on the water-pipe rig for my VG, also worked well. But the glass vg on its own is the easiest way I've found to vape oil, IMHO.
Anybody else done this? Know of any other tricks for oil in the glass VG?

arf777,
Hey guys, I've been using a used glass VG without a clip in its top. Basically, the ceramic filter without the clip just fell down into the glass on glass joint of the top until it pressure fit against the sides. It worked fine but I knew there was supposed to be a clip, so when I was ordering some cooljarz from VG I had them send me a new clip.

But I'm puzzled. The filter is smaller in diameter than the clip, and the clip just barely fits into the top most portion of the glass top - it seems larger than it should be maybe? Does anyone have a pic of what the filter should look like with clip attached, or what height the filter should ideally be at within the glass top? Or any advice on the subject? Thanks.

I also bought one of these guys:
pokers500.jpg
which is a pretty nifty tool. It's only about 2 and 3/4 inches long and is very, very portable, and obviously the stirring end is safely inside the wood when not in use so you don't get a dirty pocket. If you're buying something off the site already then I think it's a nice little addition for 3 bucks. The magnet is very strong relative to the weight of the poker, so it won't go rogue on you.

i just keep a bent open paper clip (one end is open) in my bag/container and use it to stir if tapping is not doing the trick, but that does look neat.

This is what Vapor Genie said in response to asking why they dont have waterpipe attachments:

"We cannot make any bong attachments because of legal liability. VG is not in the bong business. "

Nice vids Vitolo. I reall like the look of that pipe. Does the glass VG have the same kind of filter as the other VGs - the black porous stone thing?

Awesome job with those videos, Vitolo! You got the lighting just right to be able to see the vapor fill up the pipe! That's an interesting way to hold the lighter as well; I'd never thought to try that

Hey there, has anyone tried out the Glass Bat VG?

Looks like it could be up my alley, but it would be nice to hear some user reviews
