PACQUIAO!!!
The brown stuff on your filter might be flint dust. You should take the filter out and heat it up red hot with a torch to clean it. If vg doesn't send you a clip for your filter ill give you one.

Hi,

Three or four months have past and my zealouse companion, the Glass VG is still with me.
Im actually sitting next to a broken VaporBros, which i should be repairing (Broken heating element),
but after the extremely lacking customer support and having to send it to the US and being fond of my
glass VG, it will never happen.

Back to the GVG. This unit is amazing, not only does it produce massive results its also surprisingly durable!, Ive acidentally dropped her once on my wooden floor, and not a chip thank gods.

Anyhow, considering ordering another one, so i have a spare just in case!

One thing i do think needs improvement is how the screen is build into the unit. instead of having a small screen all the way at the bottom of the bowl, i changed for having a larger screen resting in there a bit away from the draw whole, meaning more hot air will pass through the vaping-material and thereby you get a larger cloud..

Anyhow, peace out to all of you and
cudos for everything!

i picked up a new torch lighter (that works way better than the one i had) and am pretty much switched over to it. changing from bic lighter to torch is yet another learning curve im not quite done with but its been a good change thus far.

I've always debated getting a torch for my GVG, but the manufacturers say it can cause the tops to crack. Does anyone know if this is true, or are they just covering their backsides? I'd prefer to use one due to the cleaner flame and a lot of people on a certain "spicy" forum seem to have no problems at all, though I guess they won't (hopefully ) be using the pipe as much as a pothead would.

The GVG is absolutely fantastic, and the only electronic vape I think I could consider replacing it with would be the Vapexhale when it finally comes to the UK.... I have never used anything that produced as much smooth, tasty vapor from such small bowls.

Oh, and get the hard case for it! Mine would be long gone by now if I hadn't. And find a way of adapting it for water cooling, it's a bit tricky to get the draw speed right at first but it rocks.

Great review Cann E Bus. My first vape was a vaporgenie exotic wood, love it, I get the best kief hits from the genie.
The vaporgenie website has now stated that they do not recommend vector lighters, they cut the $ on em to get rid of their inventory.
Wow. I just read their take on these lighters on their site. Talk about bad blood. But I can surely relate. The Elio that I got from them worked for about a week before it started jamming. My 2.00 no name worked better and is still working better. Should have returned the Vector to VG when I had the chance, but odds are I would have received one that was just as bad. I paid 19.00 bucks for a lighter that they are now selling for 3.00.

I'm not sure if these would work with the VG but these lighters are bad ass and super cheap to refill. I got one for camping and just bought another one for work. Really good cheap wind proof torch lighter. Also fun for burning things.

Has anyone ever heard a kind of snapping noise when hitting the VG? I've heard it sometimes early in a session, especially if it's a big bowl.

snapping huh? and when you say hit, you mean when you are taking a hit or are you hitting it as you hit? lol, sorry. reason i ask is when i do a hit (flame) i start with slow draw + flame and when im sure i got enough heat i remove flame and continue to slow draw for a few seconds, THEN i start tapping the pipe right where the herb is a few times as i keep drawing. and i do hear some snaps then but its just the top rattling.

reason i do this is it helps to essentially stir the herb while heat is still flowing and you get a bigger hit, its more for when im close to done with the bowl though as i think smaller (early) hits are more efficient.

@9Samurai, i was dead set against the torch based on vg suggestions alone but ive been watching my ceramic and its getting clogged and i keep the flame far away when using the bic so it got me thinking its just dirty heat and im inhaling that crap, so i opted for torch. i only keep the torch on it (at a distance) for a few short seconds, like 2-3, so i dont think im going to heat it enough to crack/melt...the glass is usually alot cooler with the flame (top piece) in my experience vs the bic lighter...i attribute that to the more defined heat path.

crawdad,
That crackling is likely just moisture being chased out of the material you're vaping. You can hear it with lots of vapes with an aggressive first hit, like we tend to get with VGs.

Just got this badboy in the mail earlier today. Anybody ever get desperate enough to try getting some crushed ice into that bubble? I think it'd be pretty awesome to hit it with crushed ice in there but the inhale hole is tiny. I'll probably realize how implausible this is once I get home and try doing this.

Thanks dude, I've ordered a handful of torches from Dealextreme. I'll probably have them in a couple months time :ko:. Damn China, being all far away and stuff.
Hopefully it will add another layer of greatness to the GVG experience!

And as for putting ice in it....
Have fun! You could always try putting it in the freezer, but then it gets freezing cold (really?) and unpleasant to hold.
Actually, if you have a 14mm male to 18mm female adapter, you can usually get a screen to fit in and use the GVG filter with water and a bong. Works good! The hits can sometimes be a bit thick and murderous without filtration, not that I'm complaining:D

i would not bother with the ice or putting in the freezer. once you get the hang of it you should do slow small hits, you end up doing more hits so it takes longer but you will vaporize the herb much cleaner and next to zero harshness. for a bic lighter just barely in the bowl i would light for 5-6 seconds then remove flame and continue a draw for about 5 seconds or so. with a torch i keep flame just out of the bowl and hit for 2 seconds then remove and draw for about 3-5 seconds. for me, all smooth hits. for harder hits i flame longer, but only if im in a rush and thats pretty rare. congrats on the order!

I'm really digging this glass VG. I like it more than the original VG I used to have. It's just more fun to hit for some reason. You really can see the vaporization process right before your eyes when you use it. And the big bowl size is awesome.

I used the hemp wax for a while but it took way longer to get nice hits compared to just using the bic lighter. But now they've got me all paranoid about rare earth minerals.

11eleven11,
I wouldn't store my MFLB batteries like that, they can easily touch and get battery acid everywhere.

But yeah, the glass VG is pretty tits - buy a ceramic filter type piece and try the VG top with it, you can get great hits out of waterpipes and the like.

Hey folks.
My Glass VG just came. I've never used a VG at all before, but had heard some negative things about the old ones. But everything I heard about the glass one was awesome. And all I can say is - WOW! I'd about given up on lighter-driven portables (not counting the Supreme, but I don't use it as a portable) - don't like the Lotus for anything but concentrates, had bad experiences using herbs in the Essential, GLass Vapobowl was too easy to combust with,. But this thing is AMAZING. Wouldn't have thought it'd be this easy to use without combusting, or the vapor being this tasty. Just amazed. This is now my go-to portable. The Iolite is getting retired.

arf777,
Yeah, the Glass VG is a pretty awesome device. It's alot of fun to put in a little dusting and vape it all in one huge go. Have you tried a jet lighter? I find they heat better and give better flavor.

Also, same question for the vapobowl: are you using a jet lighter? Are you using it at a good distance, like well away, like an inch or two beyond the visible torch lenght? Are you using the screen in the lowermost area, not on top of the ice pinches? I know it's slightly off topic, but I think the glass vapobowl is just as good a lighter-driven system as the glass VG is - I think it actually can deliver denser clouds but also requires a pair of tweezers and a inflammable surface to handle, which can a big pain in the ass. They both have advantages, and both have learning curves to overcome. The vapocane has actually emerged as my favorite of the direct butane flame vaporizers I've used (3 VGs, vapobowl, vapocane, vaporstar, vaporpro), for a number of reasons - the fact that is 100% glass, with no metal and no ceramic filter, while also providing what I find to be narrowly the best vapor, makes it the narrow winner.

Just been messing with a couple of torch lighters and the VG now. Definitely faster than using a soft flame. Have to be careful with my hotter lighters though- combusted a bit. I'm sure once I play with it for a few days that won't be a problem.

I've tried everything you mentioned with the vapobowl except putting the screen in a different position. I'll give that a try. Don't get me wrong - I got some lovely vapor with the glass vapobowl, it was just a bit too easy to combust, IMO.

Off topic again, but I tried as you suggested with the Glass vapobowl, and putting the screen farther down made a huge difference. Thanks for the tip.

Wow, great find Arf. Looks like a welcome new addition to the VG family, that the open glass/sliding steel door solution is out there.

Also, happy to help with the glass vapobowl.

that was my first impression as well. not digging the new logo design they are showing on the glass. anyhow, looking forward to hearing reviews from the glass bat. im still enjoying my glass sherlock.

I went ahead and ordered the glass bat. I have frankly come to love my glass VG so much that I was considering buying a back-up to have for when I eventually break this one (I know it will happen one day :()

Every day I have it, I'm more impressed with this vape. Have dialed in the exact right timing with one of my torch lighters - been using the one that came with the Lotus. I'm currently waiting on a replacement heater cover for two broken VHW 2.0s, and the glass VG is my only vape that has taste as pure - I like the taste even better than my other wands, the LSV and MW. It's become my go-to while the VHWs are broken.

Have also experimented with it on water tools, and it was wonderful. I used a 14-to-18 adapter I had for that - only problem was getting the screen to stay in the right place. The MW bowls would be perfect, 'cept the screen is a little too far away. Surprised VG doesn't just sell a water pipe adapter for this. Would be really easy.

That is an interesting addition to the VG famly; I am interested to hear how it is, arf777. The first concern that comes to mind for me is the metal sleeve getting hot. If it's anything like that metal bowl of the classic wooden VGs then it could be painful :p

Just received my glass bat VG. First thing I noticed is it has a different name printed on it, "Vaporocket". Does look a bit rocket-like.

First impressions- the ceramic filter is farther down the tube than it is in the top of the glass sherlock VG. I haven't owned any non-glass VGs, so I don't know if it is a typical distance on either the older ones or on the other bat-types - it's top is an inch in from the lip. So that is immediately making me use a larger flame than I do on my other one. One cool thing I noticed right away - thanks to a different shape to the mouthpiece, with a simple rubber grommet stuck on, the glass bat fits perfectly into 18mm joint water pipes. So all of a sudden we're much closer to a VG water pipe adapter.

Need to practice a bit to figure out the right flame size to use with this. WIll post a more detailed review after I have practiced a bit. Did notice the steel door does get hot, but not outrageously so - its pretty thin, so the heat seems to dissipate quickly.

Been playing with the Glass bat VG. Here's what I think so far:

Though the ceramic filter is a full inch in from the opening, it appears it takes less lighter time to vape out of this than the glass sherlock VG. Not unexpectedly, though, it does hit hotter and harsher - but all bats in my experience, whether for vaping or combustion, are hotter than their non-bat brethren.

I found another design difference between this and the glass sherlock VG - the opening at the base of the bowl that the vapor flows through is much larger in the bat. So I've found I have to pay a bit more attention to manual breath control with the bat than with the sherlock.

I also think the taste is better out of the sherlock than out of the bat, using the same herbs and lighter. I assume it's either from the steel in the door or just an effect of the shorter distance the vapor travels between bowl and mouth - maybe the greater distance in the sherlock lets some of the butane impurities precipitate out? Just theorizing here, but whatever the cause, there is a taste difference IMO.

On the other hand, the bat produces vapor faster (for me at least). A soft flame lighter with the bat produces vapor about as quickly as a torch with the sherlock. And the steel door doesn't get that hot, and both the door and the bat as a whole cools pretty fast. I can see this as a better portable (especially stealth) option than the sherlock. And it definitely has one big advantage - there is no removable top to drop and break. In fact, I cracked the top of my sherlock VG while waiting for the bat to come. Still works fine, just ugly :(. That definitely won't happen with the bat - it's one single piece of glass.

Lastly, the bat really does fit perfectly into my 18mm glass pieces with a simple grommet. However, when I emailed a comment about that to VG, and mentioned that I would buy an official water pipe adapter if they made one, they said they have rejected that idea "for a number of reasons". They didn't explain, but maybe there's an issue with the ceramic filter in that sort of use? Makes me a bit nervous using the bat that way, but it does produce wonderful vapor in my glass.

Overall, a decent addition to the family. I still prefer the glass sherlock when I'm sitting at home, but iot's the bat that's coming with me when I'm out and about today.

It sounds really cool, thanks for the review! I'm glad to hear that it vapes quickly and also cools down quickly
