Glass 101

Does anyone use a water piece with an e-nano in its regular orientation i.e. the e-nano is not inverted?

I like the idea of vaping through water but have no bong/bubbler experience and my preference would be for something simple and low maintenance to try with my e-nano. Any suggestions?

scarlettohaira,
keeping it upside down keeps debris from falling on the heating element.

Is there a reason why this matters more when using water than when vaping dry through a stem? I know the overwhelming majority here seem to invert the nano for vaping with water, and I'm struggling to recall if I read anything about it being possible to do with the nano in its non-inverted position. I know almost nothing about bubblers and bongs, so I expect I'm overlooking/missing something incredibly obvious.

Perhaps if a whip was involved...?

I'm open to all suggestions: inverted, non-inverted etc as long as it's simple to use and good quality. I'd also be very grateful if someone could post a "step-by-step to glass with your nano" in phrasiology I might be able to understand!

scarlettohaira,
Even when dry vaping, I hold my Nano above the mouthpiece.

I've seen that some people do and some don't, perhaps due to whether or not it's whole nugs or ground bud being vaped, or down to how tightly the bowl is packed. I have been kind of hoping I'll be able to find a way of making it work for me, experimenting with these variables.

@FlyingLow - hydratubes have the gong pointing down.

@scarlettohaira - I find that using a hydratube style piece (with the gong at the bottom - so the vape is right side up) is mostly convenient when the vape/stem form one solid unit when combined.

At the end of each hit, you want to remove the vape so you can clear out the bong of vapor.
When the vape/stem form 1 solid unit, you can use 1 hand on the vape, 1 Hand on the hydratube, and separate to clear.

Examples of this type of vape setup would be the solo, cloud, LSV (when using a m-m adapter as WPA)

With vapes where the vape/stem form more of a loose/wobbly connection, it's just a bit more awkward using a hydratube. You need to keep an extra finger or something on the stem to ensure it stays in place, and it's just an extra thing to worry about.

If you're not worried about bits of bud falling onto your heater, then there's no reason I can think of you couldn't use your nano in any orientation you want :)

Great info I will find really helpful, thanks!

The nano will vape just fine in any orientation. Doesn't matter to the Nano one bit.

However...

As was already mentioned, there are no rigs being made with an inverted joint for obvious reasons (water drainage for one).

Furthermore, I am not sure why one would want to have the nano sit upright for use through water. In order to get it to work you would need to employ a bunch of adapters or at least a whip tube.

Adding complication and extra area for vapor to condense on isn't helping anyone IMO, nor does it help with flavor retention.

Just seems to be a lose-lose proposition to me.

Assuming that you have a Solo 14mm GonG stem, yes.

Hopefully I am posting this in the appropriate thread...

I am new to all the glass methods for dabbing and just received my first quartz nail. It was only $17 from ebay, Dab Philosophy.

Is there a way to tell if its true quartz? I've seen videos where they heat it up then dunk it in water to see if it cracks. Is this a recommended way of testing if it's true quartz?

My question has been answered:
only way I know is to heat the fuck out of it.
if it's glass it'll melt at 1050f,
if it's quartz it'll hold its shape till 1700f.
I would not recommend dunking it in water when hot. you are correct 100% pure silica quartz should not break if it's hot and put into cold water. I wouldn't want to take the risk that its 98%

hello all, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to glass, I just bought this

I'll be using it with my crafty, what do you guys think of it?

thank you for replying, I will be using the Extreme-q whip. like this guy does in this video

but I have and will be keeping an eye on @Ratchett 's developments.

This is my first introduction to glass and although I can for see the whip get tiring quickly, its just the start.

I ordered two cheap water pieces to vape with. Fc-187, and fc-711. I just plan on using these to vape with, but I'm curious. Do you guys just vape with glass? Or do you also do bowls of herb or dabs. Is there a water piece that does it all well?

Just wanted to let you know, you're probably way off the right thread here. Might be better to post your question here: Cheap, high-quality bubbler??

try to get wider diameter whip/tubing that fits over the enano gong or dry stem and attach it to a 14/18mm fitting to go into your glass piece. I'm not well versed on the different desktop unit whips but I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.

So, here is a question that has me a little confused. If there is a US standard for the dimensions of a male 19mm joint (19/22) and an "international" or ISO standard for a 19mm joint (19/26), why is most of the glass coming out of china using the US standard? With the exception of one bowl, and my 3way (which is labeled and likely european), every male jointed adapter I have from china (about 8 in all) is the US 19/22.
I have no water pieces with a male joint. Can someone check a couple of theirs to see which standard they are using?
